Background / History

Taichang Realm was a cultivation realm divided among the Five Domains and Four Seas. Its spiritual energy was unevenly concentrated, with roughly seventy percent of its spiritual essence gathered in Zhongyuan Dao of the Central Plains. The realm’s many Holy Land-level powers competed over Spirit Veins, inheritances, and political influence. 581

Its rules imposed a limit above Deity Transformation: when Royal Court lord Emperor Teng extended a giant palm into the realm, chains of light formed from the realm’s rules to restrain and expel it. 584

The realm had previously faced demonic threats. The Taibai Sword Sect was established to eliminate lingering dangers left after an earlier Demon Realm conflict, but was later destroyed; its legacy grotto-heaven and resources became objects of contention among Taichang’s major factions. 415

Political Landscape

Major powers

Before the Royal Court’s departure, the realm included numerous Holy Lands and regional powers, including:

• Tianlan Sect — dominant force in the Eastern Domain and later Fang Xiao’s principal base.
• Central Plains Royal Court — controlled more than forty percent of the Central Plains and secretly prepared to abandon the realm rather than defend it from the Demon Race. 481
• Yuetian Sect, Gongye Family, Ice Soul Sect, Nine Marvels Sect, Shanhai Sect, and Lietian Sword Sect — leading powers involved in the struggle over the Ascension Platform. 661
• Myriad Treasures Merchant Association — initially neutral, later aligned with Fang Xiao. 661
• Myriad Cultivators Alliance — a South Sea organization that covertly supported Fang Xiao through Southern Dipper True Monarch and Yan Tiandong. 661

The Royal Court’s departure caused a major reshuffling. Several Holy Lands were destroyed, absorbed, or deprived of their Deity Transformation cultivators; afterward, the realm was effectively split into Tianlan Sect’s alliance and an opposing coalition. 661

Unification under Fang Xiao

Following the Royal Court’s departure, distrust and old grudges prevented Taichang’s surviving powers from forming a stable alliance. Fang Xiao compelled the major factions to unite against the Demon Race, redirecting their internal conflicts toward the realm’s external threat. 670

His leadership was driven by the conclusion that one voice was needed before the Demon Race’s main army arrived. 584

Geography and Environment

• Five Domains and Four Seas — the realm’s principal geographic divisions; widespread demonic contamination threatened to engulf them. 495
• Central Plains / Zhongyuan Dao — center of the realm’s spiritual essence and site of the Royal Court’s power. Losing it would severely diminish Spirit Veins, world origin energy, and cultivation resources across the realm. 581
• Northern Plains — once heavily contaminated by True Demonic Qi; its demonic corruption was cleared by Taichang’s major powers over twenty years. 730
• North Sea — also purified of demonic contamination alongside the Northern Plains. 730
• Nine Heavens — held firmament energy and were guarded by Fang Xiao’s Six Energies Dao Soldiers. Fang Xiao intended to take them with him upon departing the realm. 738

Realm Rules

Taichang Realm’s natural laws restricted beings exceeding Deity Transformation.

• Chains of Rules — chains of light manifested to restrain and force out Emperor Teng’s power when he acted from beyond Deity Transformation. 584
• Spiritual-energy decline — prolonged high-level warfare and the realm’s worsening condition accelerated the loss of spiritual energy, threatening an Age of Dharma Demise and shortening cultivators’ lifespans. 670
• Realm boundary — the realm wall could be crossed by powerful beings, but it also became a target for escaping True Demons during the final catastrophe. 816

Demon Race Crisis

The Spirit Realm could not spare resources to defend Taichang Realm because it was fighting the Tianhuang Realm. If the Five Domains and Four Seas were fully contaminated, Taichang Realm risked being dragged into the Demon Realm and becoming territory under demonic control. 495

The Spirit Realm supplied three demon-quelling artifacts to resist Demonic Qi and True Demonic Qi:

• Demon Quelling
• Demon Sealing
• Demon Transformation

These were intended for mass production, but Fang Xiao recognized that artifacts alone could not save the realm without unified resistance from its people. 503

Although Taichang’s major powers eventually cleared the Northern Plains and North Sea, the wider crisis continued. 730

Ruins of the Underworld

The Ruins of the Underworld emerged as Taichang Realm’s ultimate threat. King Gan identified an abyss at the edge of former Zhongyuan Dao as the legendary ruins. 714

Suppression attempts

• The Five Divine Peaks temporarily suppressed the ruins, though the suppression damaged landmasses and contributed to the Sea of Mist’s advance. 784
• A Half-step Dao Artifact, the Divine Mountain, was used by Tianlan Sect and Myriad Treasures Merchant Association cultivators for another temporary suppression. 787
• Fang Xiao used the Primordial Chaos Sword Venerate Dharma Aspect to retrieve the Void Suppressing Sword from the ruins, then reinforced the suppression with the Divine Mountain. 789

The suppression could only delay the disaster. Once fully formed, the Ruins of the Underworld devoured the Sword Abyss, the Five Domains, and eventually the realm’s boundary. 816 818

Destruction and Evacuation

As the Ruins of the Underworld became unstoppable, Fang Xiao’s forces evacuated the human race from Taichang Realm. Ling Taichu led the survivors to the Tian Luo Realm, arriving after fifteen years. 818

The Ruins consumed Taichang Realm and caused countless deaths. After devouring the realm barrier, its expansion slowed and stopped. Fang Xiao remained behind, using spatial power to make the ruins contract while waiting for the possibility that they would condense into a realm seed. 818

Legacy

• Taichang Realm’s destruction pushed its surviving cultivators to establish themselves in the Tian Luo Realm. 818 820
• Its former resources, including earth veins, Dao Track Projections, Half-step Dao Artifacts, and the Nine Heavens’ firmament energy, remained strategically important until the end. 698 738
• Fang Xiao viewed the realm’s fate as proof that Taichang’s people needed a new realm rather than a futile defense of a collapsing world. 670
