Background / History

Naruto first encounters Hyakawa Yamei after accidentally crashing into him while fleeing through Konoha. Though he does not learn Yamei's name, Naruto hopes they will meet again at the Ninja Academy and become friends. 4

Before entering the Academy, Naruto openly shares his dream of being recognized by everyone and becoming Hokage. Despite his lonely upbringing and the hostility directed at him, he remains energetic, sociable, and eager to connect with others. 7 8

At the Academy entrance exam, Naruto is mocked after receiving three points each in chakra refinement, taijutsu, and ninja-tool usage. Yamei encourages him instead, reinforcing their friendship. Naruto also meets Sasuke there, beginning their immediate and volatile rivalry. 8 9
