Background / History

Sasuke entered the Ninja Academy as a proud Uchiha who dismissed those he considered beneath him. His first encounter with Naruto established their rivalry, while his own pride was frustrated when Yamei ignored him 8.

During the Uchiha clan massacre, Sasuke arrived at the clan head’s courtyard, saw Itachi, and fainted from the shock 22. Believing his family to be gone, he became consumed by hatred for Itachi. After awakening his Sharingan, he asked Yamei to train him; Yamei accepted, though he criticized Sasuke’s hatred-driven outlook 28.

Yamei and Kakashi trained Sasuke in genjutsu, taijutsu, swordsmanship, Fire Release, Chidori, and coordinated combat. Sasuke and Naruto grew strong enough together to pressure Kakashi during their survival exercise, and Sasuke later wounded Gaara in the Chūnin Exams finals 32 48 83.

After being pushed to his limits against Yamei’s Shadow Ninjas, Sasuke concluded that Konoha could no longer offer him meaningful growth. He accepted Yamei’s offer to leave the village after learning that Root had been monitoring him 103 104.

Yamei weakened Danzō by sealing his Hashirama Cells, then left Sasuke to fight him alone. Sasuke ultimately killed Danzō, openly stating that he did so to become stronger 105 107. Yamei later revealed that Konoha’s leadership had ordered the Uchiha massacre and that Itachi had acted under those orders. Sasuke redirected his hatred from Itachi toward Konoha and committed himself to becoming stronger with Yamei’s help 115.

Sasuke subsequently learned that Mikoto, Shisui, Izumi, and other Uchiha had survived. Though initially furious over what had been kept from him, he reunited with the clan’s remaining children and was accepted as one of them 114 123.

Personality

Sasuke begins as arrogant, competitive, and dismissive of others, particularly Naruto 8. His defining motivation becomes strength: he accepts severe training, leaves Konoha when he believes he has stagnated, and kills Danzō to advance his power 104 107.

His hatred is intense but not thoughtless. Danzō’s attempt to distract him with the truth of the Uchiha massacre nearly succeeds, yet Sasuke recognizes the manipulation and regains control in the middle of combat 105. After learning the full truth, his resentment shifts from Itachi to Konoha’s leadership and its treatment of the Uchiha 115.

Sasuke can be impulsive when facing powerful opponents. He accepts Pain’s challenge on Yamei’s behalf and initially underestimates the Six Paths, but later acknowledges that his incomplete information caused him to rush in 164 165. Despite his coldness toward Konoha, he fights beside Federation allies against Madara and immediately brings the injured Nagato back for treatment after Madara steals his Rinnegan 263 264.
