Saruman's Chance for Promotion

Until everyone had left, no one mentioned the retired auxiliary soldiers. After all, these auxiliaries were all young and strong, far younger than the retired veterans. They were the foundation for the territory's future private army, and no one believed Victor would be willing to give them away.

In fact, Victor had considered assigning some of the auxiliary soldiers to the noble families' territories as well. They could serve as the core population of those lands, capable of fighting while also being high-quality laborers, helping them develop their territories better and faster.

But among these newly elevated nobles, aside from James, Ron, and Sonanda, who had some savings, the others only had the rewards Victor had granted them as startup capital. That money would be significantly depleted just by relocating the veterans and their families. They would still need to develop their territories, purchase supplies and livestock, hire engineering teams from Two Rivers Territory, and so on. Their funds were truly tight.

If Victor gave them quotas for these auxiliary soldiers, he would only bankrupt them. Since Victor had no intention of becoming their creditor, he naturally did not want that to happen, so he had not brought up the matter.
