"In that case, our Demon Race will keep well clear of the Witch Clan. We'll each develop on our own and contribute to the Primordial Wilderness together!"
His mouth said this, but inwardly he sneered.
Not compete? Tell that to the ghosts! Once you Witch Clan finish purifying the Sha Qi, sorting out the earth veins, and earn even more merit, when your strength grows, will you still be content?
Taiyi was still displeased, but since Di Jun had spoken, he could only snort coldly and say nothing more.
Nuwa and Fuxi stood by without interjecting.
Wu Ming nodded slightly. "Very well. I hope our two clans can coexist peacefully and jointly contribute to the development of the Primordial Wilderness."
With that, he led the Twelve Ancestor Witches and turned to leave.
Watching the Witch Clan's retreating figures, Taiyi couldn't help but say, "Big Brother, are we just letting them go? After how arrogant Zhurong was!"
A sharp glint flashed through Di Jun's eyes, but it quickly faded. He said in a low voice, "No rush."
"The Witch Clan is powerful, and they have Pangu's legacy and merit protecting them. Now is not the time for all-out war. Let them go purify the Sha Qi and sort out the earth veins. Consider it them cleaning the courtyard for our Demon Race's future unification of the Primordial Wilderness."
He looked out over the vast Heavenly Court, at the countless demon subjects bowing below, ambition burning in his eyes.
"Issue the order: reorganize the Heavenly Court, divide the departments, and enshrine the Demon Gods! Within a thousand years, I want the Demon Race's banner planted across every star in the heavens!"
"Yes, Big Brother!" Taiyi answered, his fighting spirit soaring.
On the road back to Buzhou Mountain after leaving the Heavenly Court.
Zhurong was still grumbling. "Big Brother, why did you hold me back back there? I should have let Taiyi know my strength. What a joke. Gets a bit of merit and thinks he's hot stuff?"
Gonggong chimed in, "Exactly! Big Brother, you're too easygoing!"
"That Di Jun and Taiyi got so much merit, even more than when we Established the Clan! Why?"
"We're the ones purifying Sha Qi and sorting out earth veins—all exhausting, thankless work! They just flap their mouths, saying they'll rule heaven and earth, and merit falls on them like it's nothing!"
"This Heavenly Dao is so unfair! Biased!"
Qiangliang, Shebishi, and the other Ancestor Witches were also indignant, clearly still stewing over the Demon Race getting more merit.
Wu Ming didn't stop walking. His voice was calm, impossible to read.
"What's the point of arguing with them over a momentary spat?"
He turned his head to look at his agitated younger siblings.
"The Heavenly Dao favors the Demon Race and supports them in contending with us Witch Clan—that's plain to see."
"If you charged up now and fought Taiyi, even if you won, what then?"
"Would it make the Heavenly Dao take back the merit it gave the Demon Race? Or would it earn our Witch Clan an extra share of Destiny?"
Zhurong was choked silent. He opened his mouth but couldn't find a rebuttal.
Yeah, what good was winning? Besides venting some anger, it was useless.
Wu Ming continued, "What we need to do now isn't clash head-on with them, but seize the time to fulfill our oath—purify the Sha Qi, sort out the earth veins, accumulate merit, and raise our strength."
"As long as our Witch Clan's merit is deep enough and our Destiny prosperous enough, the Heavenly Dao will have to tread carefully and won't dare to easily bring calamity down on us."
Dijiang, the Space Ancestor Witch, frowned and asked, "Big Brother, what about the Demon Race? Do we just let them develop? They've got the Heavenly Court, they've got merit, they're uniting all demons, and they're ambitious. In the future, I'm afraid..."
A faint curve lifted the corner of Wu Ming's mouth. "The Demon Race wants to rule all beings and establish order? Hah, the Primordial Wilderness is vast. How many unruly ones are there?"
"This Primordial Wilderness has never been a place where anyone can dominate alone."
"But..." Houtu said with some worry, "The Demon Race is strong, and they have the Heavenly Court as their foundation. If they clash with us in the future..."
"Clashes are unavoidable, but the opponent might not be just us."
"The Primordial Wilderness is lively. There's no shortage of people who want to be the protagonist."
"We just need to focus on our own affairs."
"Don't forget, that Dao Ancestor from Zixiao Palace personally appointed a Male Immortal Chief back then."
"That one is currently gathering quite a few immortals and gods over on the East Sea."
Wu Ming's thoughts churned. Of course, he'd still need to give East Prince Gong some appropriate help, or else he wouldn't be able to fight the Demon Race.
The Twelve Ancestor Witches finally understood.
"East Prince Gong!" Zhurong slapped his thigh, sparks flying. "Right! That guy!"
"Hahaha! Big Brother, brilliant! Absolutely brilliant!"
Gonggong snickered too. "Perfect! Let them tear each other apart!"
Dijiang and the others nodded, their admiration for Wu Ming's foresight growing even deeper.
Qiangliang, Tianwu, and the other Ancestor Witches also nodded repeatedly, looking at Wu Ming with respect in their eyes.
Big Brother was Big Brother. He thought far ahead!
Dijiang mused, "So Big Brother means our Witch Clan's focus from now on is to fulfill our oath, accumulate merit, raise our strength, and not actively participate in the struggle for supremacy in the Primordial Wilderness?"
"Exactly."
Wu Ming stopped in his tracks, turned to face his twelve siblings, and his expression grew stern.
"Remember, our Witch Clan does not walk the path of vying for supremacy in the Primordial Wilderness!"
"What's so good about fighting for dominance over the Primordial Wilderness?"
"Have you forgotten the Dragon-Phoenix-Qilin Calamity?"
"The Dragon, Phoenix, and Qilin Clans—how mighty were they? They fought for control of the Primordial Wilderness, tearing heaven and earth apart, blotting out the sun and moon!"
"And what was the result?"
"The elites of the three clans were nearly wiped out, their destiny withered, burdened with boundless karma. The remnants still struggle today to repay that karma, barely able to cultivate!"
"This is the fate of those who fight for supremacy in the Primordial Wilderness!"
The Ancestor Witches felt a chill in their hearts. Though the Dragon-Phoenix-Qilin Calamity was ancient, its brutality remained a lingering shadow over all beings in the Primordial Wilderness. They had heard of the three clans' downfall.
Wu Ming continued: "Our Witch Clan was born from the essence blood of Father God Pangu. We naturally command laws and possess formidable physical bodies—this is our foundation, our advantage!"
"Proving Dao by Law, Proving Dao by Force—these are the paths truly suited to our Witch Clan!"
"Isn't Proving Dao by Law appealing enough? Why must we chase some worthless overlord title and stain ourselves with karma?"
Wu Ming pressed further: "Think about Dao Ancestor Hongjun."
"What kind of figure is the Dao Ancestor? A peerless genius with deep roots. Do you think he never wanted to walk the path of Proving Dao by Law back then?"
"And what happened?"
"Because of the Dao-Demon Conflict back then, Luohu self-destructed the Western Continent, destroying the Western Ancestral Vein. Though Hongjun won, he bore a tremendous burden of karma and causality."
"Bound by karma, his path of law was obstructed, and in the end, he had no choice but to compromise with the Heavenly Dao, severing his three corpses to become a Saint and merge with the Heavenly Dao!"
"If even the Dao Ancestor was forced to change his path due to karma, do you think our Witch Clan would fare any better than the Dragon, Phoenix, and Qilin Clans if we also tread the road of conquest and stain ourselves with boundless karma?"
"By then, forget Proving Dao by Law—whether we can even preserve the Witch Clan's legacy would be in question!"
"Cleansing Sha Qi, regulating earth veins, and earning merit—these are our means of self-protection and ways to accumulate foundation."
"And the ultimate goal is to rely on our Witch Clan's inherent advantages, comprehend the laws, break all methods with force, and attain the Hunyuan Dao Fruit!"
His words struck like thunder, leaving all the Ancestor Witches deep in thought.
The temptation of dominating the Primordial Wilderness was immense, but the brutality of the Dragon-Phoenix-Qilin Calamity and the twists of Hongjun's path to sainthood were plain to see.
Compared to the illusory throne of Primordial Wilderness overlord, controlling one's own fate and pursuing the pinnacle of the Great Dao through Proving Dao by Law seemed far more practical and aligned with the Witch Clan's true nature.
"Big Brother speaks wisely," Dijiang nodded first. "We were too fixated on appearances before."
Zhujiuyin slowly added, "Proving Dao by Law is the correct path. Accumulating merit, stabilizing ourselves, and watching events unfold—this is the best strategy."
Houtu said softly, "I humbly follow Big Brother's teachings."
Even the most combative Zhurong and Gonggong scratched their heads and stopped clamoring to pick a fight with the Demon Race.
"Alright, as long as you all understand." Wu Ming waved his hand.
"Go back and restrain your respective clans. Redouble your efforts and put the work of earning merit into practice."
"The Primordial Wilderness is vast, and opportunities are plentiful. The era belonging to our Witch Clan has only just begun."
With that, Wu Ming said no more and flew off toward Buzhou Mountain, with the twelve Ancestor Witches following closely behind.
