Don't Say It, Say Something Useful
"They're here."
George Barton, who was sitting in Boca's living room drinking tea, suddenly spoke up, "Can you feel it?"
"... Yes, I sense it. Someone is casting a curse on my house."
Boca's expression turned grim, but at the same time he felt relieved—thankfully he had been decisive enough.
His attitude was unusually respectful, even bordering on humility. "Your Grand Guardian, what should I do now? Should I go out and draw their attention, or stay here?"
"Casual."
The Grand Guardian ignored him and simply replied.
Although Boca is a witness, he's no better. But interrogating him is a matter for later; right now, we need to deal with these scumbags.
He said to his griffin, "Protect David and Mr. Boca."
"Don't you need my help?"
"I'm lying in the living room Philip said in a deep voice.
Angelica and David were both beside him, flanking David from both sides. Even if there were gunmen outside, they could stop his sniping.
"I'll let you know if I need your help."
George said briefly, "But not now."
He really looked down on these people.
He had already seen their configuration through the "Eye of Avalon"—the only one who could be considered strong was Lloyd.
Although there was another middle-aged woman who also possessed some strength... she was perhaps an extraordinary being who Path of Adaptation, and she keenly sensed George's spying. Before the carriage even stopped, she had already run away.
As for the "Aleister" that Boca mentioned, he never came.
But that's okay.
Even if we can't catch Aleister, catching Lloyd would be good too.
As long as Boca, as a tainted witness, is protected, he can slowly unravel an entire corrupt network.
"Just be careful."
Philip casually offered a reminder, then turned back to look at Boca with his sharp eyes, warning, "I'll be watching you, don't try anything funny."
"No, no..."
Boca smiled wryly.
How dare he pull any dirty tricks?
He's not stupid...
George slowly drew the elven scimitars that were slung across his sides.
They were a pair of curved swords that looked as slender as willow leaves, with one handle in black and the other in white, and the thin, slender blades were a little over a meter long, gleaming with a dazzling silver light.
This is a mysterious craft from the Primordial Empire, a batch of which was previously given to the Theocracy as a gift. Due to its rarity, it was then replicated by the Theocracy's elven artisans using elven techniques.
George's is a replica, so it looks more Elven Style —that is, the main color is silver, the scabbard is carved with flowers and leaves, and the hilt is inlaid with a lot of gems and the blade is inscribed with Elven Language inscriptions.
The scepter in his hand was personally blessed by the previous Pope, possessing the dual protection of the Candlelight and the Constant Self. It was given as a gift by the Theocracy to the newly founded Avalon, and now serves as proof of the power passed down through generations of the Grand Guardian.
This is a genuine national treasure.
It is so light and sharp, yet it has a structure that is far more robust than it appears.
As George slowly infused his Wind Attribute Mana into it, the blade gradually became invisible.
Instead, two faintly visible arcs of white and black light appeared.
These curved blades can convert Wind Attribute Mana into Light Attribute and Dark Attribute — Light Attribute magic is extremely effective against demons, while Dark Attribute Mana is extremely lethal to the human body.
He narrowed his eyes slightly.
With the aid of the "Eye of Avalon," he saw all the people surrounding 113 Green Vine Avenue and marked them one by one.
When his vision returned, even though there was still a wall between them, the outlines of those people were already visible to him.
George kicked the door open—and immediately the sound of a baby crying could be heard.
—That's Curse Infant! It's bound to hit, a vicious Spellcasting capable of tearing apart the heart and freezing organs!
Immediately following, bullets from at least ten guns rained down—not the pistols or semi-automatic rifles commonly seen in Avalon, but fully automatic rifles smuggled from the Stibium Kingdom! These Demon Scholar were clearly not very good marksmen. Large shards of the veered bullets struck the wall, kicking up clouds of dust.
George, however, completely ignored the bullets that could penetrate the walls.
Without even looking, a violent hurricane erupted from his body, blasting all the bullets away. The howling storm made it impossible for people to stand, and the flying sand and stones forced them to cover their eyes.
A dazzling light flashed through the storm, and the Curse Infant was split in two.
A howling storm arose from the ground, and within it, a white lightning bolt leaped through the crowd. Clumps of blood burst forth almost simultaneously, only to be swept away by the storm. The Demon Scholar didn't even see who their enemy was before they felt as if struck by lightning and lost consciousness.
Those Demon Scholar were all beheaded in an instant. They were not tortured, and many did not even realize they were dead.
The demons were not spared either—the demons that were supposed to be automatically dispelled in a little while were all pierced by the arcs of light and burst into black smoke and dust on the spot.
The lightning bolts danced erratically through the crowd, impossible to detect with magic, as neither the eyes nor mental power could lock onto them.
George only briefly reveals himself when facing slightly more powerful demons.
Then, in an instant, he unleashed at least three slashes, tearing his opponent to shreds before transforming back into bolts of lightning, crackling and leaping through the storm.
When the storm subsided and George reappeared, only Lloyd was still alive.
George slowly raised the invisible Dual Blades in his hands, crossed them in front of him, and then swung them.
Two bloodstains appeared in front of him, one black and one red, forming a cross.
The blade, now fully revealed, gleamed as new, and the Grand Guardian's expression remained unchanged, not even his breathing quickened. It was as if he hadn't killed over thirty Demon Scholar and their demons, who were at least at the Third Level, in the blink of an eye, but rather as casually and naturally as if he had just eaten a meal.
Seeing this, Tommy's back was already soaked with sweat.
He certainly knew the Grand Guardian. But he never imagined that the person who came to protect Boca would be him!
—If Boca knew the Grand Guardian, why would he be so cowardly all the time?!
Tommy wanted to run—but he knew he couldn't escape.
Since the Grand Guardian is here, his griffin must be here too. He might have a chance to outrun the Grand Guardian, but he definitely can't outrun the griffin.
Purebred griffins are the darlings of the wind, able to blend seamlessly into the storm. They can surpass the speed of sound without tearing through the atmosphere—a divine speed unattainable by human flesh and blood.
Therefore, upon seeing the Grand Guardian slowly approaching him, all Tommy could do was plead for mercy, "Your Excellency Grand Guardian, I believe there must be some misunderstanding..."
"Oh?"
The Grand Guardian simply walked forward slowly, calmly saying, "Are you referring to the misunderstanding of illegal firearms smuggling, the misunderstanding of kidnapping the heir of the Founding Family, the misunderstanding of murdering a current judge in the street, or the misunderstanding of using a cursed infant as material to unleash a spell?"
"Or perhaps... a misunderstanding involving an attack on the highest-ranking administrator of the Bureau of Supervision, the Grand Guardian?"
As soon as he finished speaking, his body vanished.
Tommy was terrified—he instinctively took a step back, and the Maze Demon he had contracted emerged from the void, letting out a heart-shaking roar.
It was a colossal demon, over three meters tall. It had the head and hooves of a bull, and the body of a human. Its entire body was covered in jet-black fur, and its muscles bulged high. Two blue flames burned in its pupils, and it held a dark gold battle axe as tall as itself in one hand.
The Maze Demon is a legitimate Greater Demon, which is one of the reasons Tommy was able to join the Noble Red Society.
As the Maze Demon roared, the prison-like stone walls rose layer by layer.
The stone walls are covered in blood-stained curses, and the interior is much larger than it appears from the outside. The walls are exceptionally sturdy and extremely difficult to break. Yet, the Maze Demon can roam freely within them. The labyrinth has only one correct exit; all other exits are dead ends—leaving the dead ends leads to the Dream Realm Dream Realm, where mortals who enter will instantly die.
This is Tommy's last trump card.
He was teleported outside the maze and looked nervously at the tall stone wall in front of him.
But after only about ten minutes, the stone wall collapsed with a crash and disappeared without a trace, as if it were an illusion.
The Grand Guardian appeared in the same spot, slightly disheveled but unharmed.
He took a couple of breaths, his deep gaze fixed on Tommy: "Not bad, Lao..."
"—Stop talking, I surrender."
Tommy immediately prostrated himself on the ground without hesitation, remaining motionless.
