Iver's Book of Law

However, after careful examination, Iver discovered that it actually had a complete ritual.

That is the Ouroboros Ring Ritual.

Because Merlin was right next to him, Iver didn't dare to look closely. He directly used his consciousness to flip through the pages to the end of that chapter and found a gray mark there.

Iver recognized the mark. It was the "star" pattern from the Phantom Demon Card. Only it wasn't colored; it was gray.

—Was the occupied card slot a star? Iver recalled what type of card star cards usually were.

To his surprise, he couldn't quite remember it at first. He had to think hard before he could barely recall it.

Stars symbolize love, purification, healing, blessing, and empowerment. They are typically Water Attribute cards, requiring Water Attribute magic to activate. They are most often used to seal Magic Creature from the Path of Love — the Blood Domain, such as blood demons and siren-like phantoms... For example, "Vampire's Touch," which grants the ability to suck life, or "Siren's Song," which provides continuous group healing, or "Water Regeneration," which instantly restores a large amount of health to oneself or teammates.

Typically, players will use a quick refresh when "star positioning".

—Perhaps because Iver is a skilled healer, the Great Sin Scholar, who is usually the DPS in the team, often doesn't have time to use their Star Cards. They might just be used to burn them. Luckily, this card slot isn't very useful.

While the Book of Law has four effects, its first effect, "Card Burning," is actually quite common—or rather, players need to farm a grimoire with the "Card Burning" affix to be considered fully geared. Affixes that increase card effects or reduce costs might be useful, but they're definitely not as effective as "Card Burning."

Therefore, after getting it, Iver didn't need to do any experiments; he knew how to use it.

This effect is known among players as "card burning".

Basically, it's about exchanging one card's usage count for another card that's on cooldown. However, this only resets Phantom Demon Card; it doesn't work for Great Sin Card. This is because some card slots are useless in certain battles and are better used for damage or buffs. This operation is called "burning" the card.

A top-tier, max-level Great Sin Scholar can burn six times a day. This is equivalent to sacrificing six cards to force a burst card to be played seven times in a row—this is the foundation of the Great Sin Scholar's burst damage potential.

Without the ability to burn cards, it doesn't deserve to be a burst damage class, but when it comes to sustain, it's definitely not as good as a proper sustain class like Blood Mage.

It's stuck there, unable to go up or down.

However, there's usually a limit of three or four attempts at burning cards, and only with Deep Purple base material can you have a chance to get six fully-equipped attributes. The Book of Law can directly max out Iver's stats, which makes him incredibly gratified—although currently he only has the Paradox Flame Butterfly and can only burn it once. But at least he won't have to change equipment anymore.

As a new profession that only appeared in the future, Iver really didn't know where to farm equipment if he wanted to farm for the Great Sin Scholar.

In the game, for the sake of gameplay and class balance, it's true that you can find these items in ruins. But in reality, the probability of finding a Great Sin Grimoire through archaeology is about the same as a villager sharing the secrets of nuclear fusion technology with you.

And this book, being a book left by his grandfather, may also be related to Sacred Entity... which gives it two more divine attributes than a normal Deep Purple item.

Generally speaking, the Great Sin Grimoire should have one initial attribute, and a hidden effect should be obtained after collecting all of them.

However, Iver's book has four entries... which means he can gain two additional effects.

Even divine characteristics—

Do you want to transform into golden equipment?

However, the last three affixes are not yet unlocked. Iver can't see their specific effects. But he guesses that at least one of them should be an affix that enhances card effects.

Even so, this casting range is already quite impressive.

Generally speaking, a purple-tier Great Sin Grimoire increases spell reach by twenty meters. Therefore, the Great Sin Scholar is a mid-range class.

The Book of Law ranges from thirty to sixty meters—sixty meters is undoubtedly considered a ranged class.

... Although Iver doesn't currently possess any pure damage-type Phantom Demon Card, being able to summon the Paradox Flame Butterfly and Earthbound Spirit directly to a distance of sixty meters is a significant enhancement.

The Paradox Flame Butterfly, a turret-type phantom demon, is indeed somewhat dangerous standing next to Iver. It's easy for the opponent to unleash area-of-effect spells on both of them simultaneously—and the most useful thing is to airdrop Earthbound Spirit.

Earthbound Spirit originally had a casting range of about fifteen meters. Now, with an additional sixty meters, that makes it over seventy meters.

The control skills that could only be used at close range have suddenly become so far away... Iver has already imagined all sorts of uses for them.

"Is this the equipment you're looking for?"

Sherlock looked at it, his brow furrowed. "But it doesn't seem to have anything special about it."

He neither heard the voice of the Sacred Entity nor saw Iver's illusion. To him, it was just a purple gem that floated over and then transformed into a book in front of Iver.

Out of politeness, he didn't specifically look at the contents of Iver's book. But even a quick glance was enough for him to roughly determine that it contained knowledge about rituals.

... Is it a ritual grimoire? But it doesn't seem to have the "ritual space" of a normal ritual grimoire.

Sherlock remembered that the ritual grimoire used by ritualists was a portable space. They could hide some ritual materials in it, so that they did not have to display the materials when performing the ritual, thus achieving a kind of "material-free spellcasting".

So it's the Grimoire of Contracts used by Demon Scholar?

Smaller grimoires of contracts can store some familiars, while larger ones can carry their own contracted demons with them. But it doesn't quite look like one.

... Could it be a cursed spellbook used by Curse Master?

Sherlock didn't really know what kind of grimoire the Curse Master used.

"This is my personal weapon."

Iver closed the book with a smile and said cheerfully, "You don't need to worry about this. It works pretty well anyway."

"Putting everything else aside, cards are only truly enjoyable when they're collected in a card album!" He raised his right hand, and three Tarot Card modified by Iver —along with a solid red card as deep as Red Crystal and engraved with a butterfly symbol—appeared from between Iver's fingers.

[Earthbound Spirit] belongs to "Death God", [Shadow Blade] belongs to "Moon", and [Thunder Strike Halberd] belongs to "Wheel of Fortune".

And the [Great Sin: The Paradox Flame Butterfly], which contains the entries for both "Sun" and "Hanged Man".

There are five card slots in total.

As for the Shadow Cloak, Iver planned to keep it separately. Its main purpose was to remove crowd control effects for Iver and Little Butterfly, not to increase casting range.

On the contrary, the Shadow Blade, which had become almost useless, immediately gained tactical significance after its casting range was increased.

As soon as they appeared, they seemed to be attracted.

They transformed into streaks of light and disappeared into the Book of Law.

The count of [Iver's Book of Law] immediately increased to (5/21). The number of times Aiwas could burn cards also changed from 0 to 1 with the arrival of the Paradox Flame Butterfly, giving Iver the ability to burn cards once a day.

Immediately afterwards, the white aura flowed back into the star on the cover, transforming into a thin liquid. It was small, barely filling a quarter of the star. As Iver shook the Book of Law, the amethyst's white liquid swayed slightly.

—This is liquefied, attribute-less magic! But at this moment, Iver paused slightly.

Because immediately afterward, he gained some more knowledge.

That's knowledge about five ritual spells—

Iver opened the Book of Law and turned to the chapter corresponding to "Death".

It was discovered that the second half of the original text about the "Undead Resurrection" ritual had been completed.

"So that's how it's used!" Iver's eyes lit up.

You even gave me over twenty ritual spells, right? That's great, Grandpa! So generous!

He looked at the "5/7" that unlocked the second entry and felt a surge of excitement.

He was now a little curious; if the first entry was "burning cards"... what would the other three be? Iver already had five cards. He should be able to collect seven soon.

If all goes well, I should be able to gather the funds before heading to the Theocracy! Update complete!

Just a heads up, tomorrow's update might be a little late or a little early. I guess I'll need to check out the finals first! But I won't be taking a break!
