Background / History

Origins and ancient civilization

The Human Race was described by the Immortal Venerable as the original overlord of the Chaos Sea before the discovery of the Nine Heavens Ten Earths. Humanity occupied much of the Chaos Sea and discovered and spread the earliest cultivation path. Some accounts hold that humans were outsiders to the Chaos Sea rather than its native inhabitants 721 775.

Heavenly Mystery Island's records provide a deeper origin: an ancient human Empire collected Human Race gene seeds before the Epochal End, placed them aboard vast numbers of Flying Boats, and scattered them across the River of Time. The island's artificial intelligences were intended to guide humanity's revival after the ships awakened 823.

Continental oppression and lost dynasties

On the continent later associated with Great Wei, the Human Race endured repeated subjugation by demons. In an early tribal era, humanity possessed only one Dharma Aspect Realm cultivator, while the Four Demon Emperors ruled demon kingdoms and demanded human sacrifices 353.

The tribal era was not humanity's true beginning on the continent, but the remnant of an earlier collapse. Great Gan fell before the rise of at least six or seven later human dynasties. The Great Ming Dynasty developed second-step cultivators and severely wounded the Candle Dragon, but its attempt to escape oppression ended with the descent of the Six-pointed Star Demon Saint 444.

The Six-pointed Star Demon Saint imprisoned the first humans on the continent and engineered the prolonged conflict between humans and demons to cultivate his own “fruit.” The Candle Dragon served as the prison's jailer 522.

The Human Imperial Dynasty

A later Human Imperial Dynasty rose through the Way of Fortune. It concentrated a portion of every human's fortune into the Human Emperor, granting him combat power close to the Dao Integration Realm despite being a Venerable Realm cultivator 761 763.

This system made the Human Emperor humanity's greatest protector, but it also restricted the race's future. With the Emperor Dao Principle occupied and much of humanity's fortune concentrated in the Human Emperor, ordinary humans could not advance to the Venerable Realm after his disappearance 466 761.

Following the Human Emperor's capture and the dynasty's collapse, humanity split into numerous scattered factions. The Human Emperor Army became a Rakshasa Race vassal and battlefield vanguard, while former Ministry of Revenue officials sheltered humans through the Myriad Treasures Pavilion 764.

Re-establishment of the Human Dynasty

Shen Lin reunited Great Wei survivors, the Human Emperor Army, and other scattered human factions after defeating the Rakshasa Race. He proposed uniting humanity, founding a unified kingdom, and reviving the Demon Suppression Division to eradicate demons and monsters throughout the Chaos Sea 769.

The new Human Dynasty was established on the Rakshasa Islands. Its central monument honors humanity's collective predecessors rather than a single founder or supreme cultivator 770 784.

Appearance

Humans possess the standard Human Race form and are externally difficult to distinguish from the Immortal Clan. This resemblance is close enough that outsiders frequently mistake one race for the other 552.

• Cultivators who reach the second step of cultivation can generally assume a Human Race appearance, though inherent humans can distinguish a true human from a transformed outsider 545.
