Fighting the Evil Wolf (Part 1)

Mo Li turned his head to look at Zhong Lichun, and then saw her leaning against the cave wall, wearing that assault jacket and holding a glow stick in her right hand. Although the light emitted by the glow stick wasn't very strong, it was enough to illuminate Zhong Lichun's face.

Zhong Lichun looked at Mo Li with a very strange expression. Her gaze was somewhat cold, making Mo Li feel uneasy. Subconsciously, Mo Li lowered his head, no longer meeting Zhong Lichun's eyes, and nodded lightly in reply, "Yeah! I had a nightmare."

Although Mo Li answered Zhong Lichun's question, Zhong Lichun didn't speak again. Instead, she just stared at Mo Li. Even though Mo Li didn't dare to look up at Zhong Lichun again, he could clearly feel her gaze.

The two were silent for about ten minutes before Zhong Lichun finally spoke again, "What happened after Glasses and I fainted? Did you take off my clothes?"

"That... don't misunderstand, the three of us were captured by a yeti and brought into this cave, and then..." Mo Li quickly explained when he heard Zhong Lichun's words, detailing everything that had happened after Zhong Lichun fainted.

After listening to Mo Li's explanation, Zhong Lichun fell silent again for about three to four minutes, seemingly digesting Mo Li's words. Then, she said, "Thank you for saving Glasses and me."

This time, Zhong Lichun's voice was no longer so cold. Mo Li finally felt his heart settle when he heard her words. After all, he had taken off Zhong Lichun's clothes. Even though the situation was urgent at the time, doing so was still very impolite to a woman.

"I saw those bugs too. They were circling around us the whole time. I was wondering why they weren't attacking us. It turns out they're sensitive to temperature. If you hadn't handled it properly, Glasses and I might already be dead," Zhong Lichun said again.

"You... how long have you been awake?" Mo Li still didn't dare to look at Zhong Lichun, so he asked with his head still lowered.

"I'm not sure, maybe a little over an hour. When I woke up, the glow sticks on the ground hadn't gone out yet. Seeing that you and Glasses were both asleep, I didn't move. I just sat here waiting for you to wake up," Zhong Lichun replied casually, her tone completely devoid of hostility now.

"This cave seems very deep. After that yeti brought us here, it probably hasn't appeared again, otherwise we wouldn't still be here. What should we do next? Should we go back and request reinforcements? Wei Dengke is seriously injured, and with just the three of us, we can't continue the search," Mo Li asked.

"Do you think we can survive all the way down the mountain in our current state? Even with thermal packs, the outside temperature would be enough to freeze us to death if we went out. Since that yeti brought us here, this is likely its lair. Let's go in and take a look. We might be able to find the three missing people," Zhong Lichun replied.

"Just go in like this? We don't even have any decent weapons between the three of us!" Mo Li asked with a look of astonishment upon hearing Zhong Lichun's words.

"My military knife is still here. That should be enough. You carry Glasses, and we'll go in and take a look now." Zhong Lichun was naturally assertive, and what she had said earlier was clearly not a suggestion to Mo Li. So, the woman directly ignored Mo Li's question and stood up, leaning against the wall.

Judging from the bulging pockets of Zhong Lichun's assault jacket, she had likely stuffed a lot of things from her backpack into her clothes. Since Zhong Lichun had already made up her mind, Mo Li didn't say anything more. After all, their situation was already dire, and how much worse could it get?

After helping Wei Dengke, who was still unconscious, into the assault jacket, Mo Li simply picked up the scattered items on the ground and stuffed them into the pockets of Wei Dengke's jacket. The remaining items that didn't fit were held by Zhong Lichun. Finally, Mo Li carried Wei Dengke on his back, and the three of them walked towards the depths of the cave, illuminated by a single glow stick.

The bugs covered a large area of the cave, but as Zhong Lichun and Mo Li passed by, they all voluntarily moved aside. Not a single bug dared to approach, clearly intimidated by the body heat emanating from the two of them.

As they walked, Zhong Lichun used the glow stick to illuminate the murals on the walls. After the strange little bugs were dispersed, a large number of murals were revealed. However, these murals didn't seem to have any coherent content. Some depicted humans hunting, some depicted Yetis hunting, some depicted wars between Yetis and humans, and some even depicted interactions between Yetis and humans.

From these murals alone, Zhong Lichun and Mo Li couldn't make out anything, nor could they guess who left them. They were also unsure whether humans and Yetis were enemies or friends.

They walked about a few hundred meters further into the cave, and the cave became narrower. However, its width was at least two meters, and its height was about two point four meters. The walls of this narrowed section became rougher, and the murals disappeared. It was clear that the people who had worked on this cave had not continued their efforts.

Zhong Lichun cautiously raised her military knife and slowed her pace. Mo Li also became tense upon seeing Zhong Lichun's actions, his breathing even becoming rapid.

Just as Mo Li's emotions began to tense up, a low wolf howl suddenly echoed from within the cave. Then, Mo Li saw a dark figure charging towards them at an extreme speed from the depths of the cave. It pounced directly at Zhong Lichun when it was about two meters away from her.

Zhong Lichun's reaction was undeniably fast. She suddenly crouched down, dodging the dark figure's pounce, and then thrust her dagger upwards fiercely.

The dark figure passed by Zhong Lichun and landed on the ground. Zhong Lichun straightened up, the equipment she was holding thrown to the ground. At the same time, she raised her right hand, military knife held at chest level, legs spread apart, assuming a standard military combat stance.

As Zhong Lichun turned, the glow stick in her hand illuminated the dark figure's body. Mo Li saw that it was a greyish-white Snow Mountain Wolf, over two meters long. This Snow Mountain Wolf was powerfully built with glossy fur, and its pair of eerie green eyes flickered with a cold light.

However, after its initial attack missed, the Snow Mountain Wolf did not attack again. Instead, it stood on the ground, baring its teeth and glaring at Zhong Lichun. There was a gruesome wound on its flank near its hind leg, and blood was flowing from it, staining the ground red.

Needless to say, this wound must have been inflicted by Zhong Lichun's counterattack the moment she dodged the Snow Mountain Wolf's charge. That was a reaction time of less than a second. To be able to counterattack in such a short period, this woman's reflexes were too fast!
