Background
Wei Dengke graduated as the top student of his cohort at Capital University of Science and Technology. He was expected to enter the Academy of Sciences, but a graduation trip to Shennongjia instead placed him and more than a dozen companions in a life-threatening anomalous incident. He demonstrated leadership and adaptability, bringing everyone back alive. 94
A technically minded skeptic, Wei initially dismisses explanations involving Qi, supernatural forces, and folklore. Repeated encounters with Yetis, possession, telepathy, altered spaces, and soul-transmigration phenomena progressively challenge his materialist worldview. 154 335 370 671
He joins Zhong Lichun in bringing Mo Li into their orbit and becomes one of Mo Li’s closest partners during their expeditions. His inventions, scientific knowledge, and ability to improvise treatment repeatedly make him indispensable despite his poor physical combat ability. 6 49 67
During the Feng Hua San Shi experience, Wei lives through multiple identities and lifetimes, including Liu Dazhuang/Liu Qingyuan and Lin Hao Tian. He eventually recovers his identity as Wei Dengke, though the accumulated experiences leave him mentally depleted. 591 593 600 671
Appearance
Wei Dengke is a bespectacled, severely nearsighted man with a slight, physically unremarkable build. Without his glasses, he is described as nearly blind. 77
- Wears glasses, which he instinctively protects even in dangerous situations. 77 135
- Carries more than twenty metal spheres on a suspension belt; they form his all-purpose assembly toolkit. 49
- Has a comparatively weak constitution and limited physical strength. 139 580
- Is often called “Glasses” by his companions. 73
Personality
Wei Dengke is intelligent, observant, talkative, and prone to showing off when demonstrating his inventions. His long-winded analysis and smugness frequently irritate Zhong Lichun, while his habit of teasing her earns him repeated threats and physical retaliation. 67 73 159
He is fearful in direct combat and can panic under extreme pressure, but he is not cowardly by nature. When companions are endangered, he repeatedly acts despite fear: protecting Wen Jing and the Princess, confronting predators, saving Mo Li from Lu Wu, and remaining with the group when escape would be safer. 80 123 204 685 688
His skepticism is paired with a strong need to understand what he encounters. He approaches impossible phenomena through observation, testing, and rational analysis, even when the evidence contradicts his beliefs. 145 370 449
Abilities & Skills
Engineering and Assembly
Wei developed an all-purpose assembly toolkit consisting of over twenty spherical components capable of forming more than one hundred common tools. The invention earned recognition from his superiors. 49
- Assembles a miniature reconnaissance drone and controller in under three minutes, receiving live images from the drone. 67
- Builds an electric stove and water-purification equipment from his spheres to prepare treatment for parasitic infection. 49 50
- Carries specialized mechanisms, including a sphere containing Sneeze Powder that incapacitates Lu Wu long enough for the group to escape. 685
- Possesses a metal sphere containing military-grade fiber thread. 712
Medical and Scientific Analysis
Wei has broad knowledge of biology, chemistry, medicine, physics, and anomalous organisms.
- Identifies spiral worms as an extremely rare parasite associated with Permian fossils and Antarctic ice-core specimens. 46
- Determines that alkaline soil kills the parasites, then prepares alkaline water to treat the Princess. 49 50
- Examines dangerous substances, including melted decayed flesh that proves poisonous on contact. 145
- Identifies a humanoid object’s static electricity and electromagnetic field as the cause of Mo Li’s loss of consciousness. 449 450
- Recognizes a human-faced, tiger-bodied creature as the Ma Fu described in the Classic of Mountains and Seas. 382
Reconnaissance and Problem-Solving
Wei is highly observant and retains detailed spatial information even under stress.
- Uses a drone to survey Yetis and locate Big Beard. 67 69
- Maps the group’s route through a shifting maze from memory and identifies the delayed Hatch Wall blocking their path to the Core Area. 156 157
- Detects that the Golden and Silver Weasels are mimicking and controlling possessed humans. 370
- Notices inconsistencies in Wen Jing’s supposed history, including her firearms proficiency and abnormal strength, but withholds his suspicions. 143
Field Survival and Firearms
Although not a trained close-quarters fighter, Wei can use weapons and adapt in survival situations.
- Shoots a giant wolf trapped in a cage after retreating to safety. 123
- Uses a flintlock gun against pursuing soldiers. 93
- Stabs a Giant Spider to draw it away from Mo Li despite severe blood loss. 204
- Throws Mo Li’s grenade to cripple Lu Wu, creating the opening for Mo Li to kill it. 688
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- All-purpose assembly spheres — More than twenty modular components capable of assembling over one hundred tools. 49

Story Role / Major Arcs
Motuo Expedition
Wei accompanies Mo Li and Zhong Lichun into the Motuo forest, where his enthusiasm for rare flora contrasts with his fear of local threats. He is among the first to realize that Mo Li’s body has changed after exposure to the experimental drug SY7113. 8 10 11
Rescue of the Princess
When the Princess is infected by spiral worms, Wei examines her condition, deduces that the parasites cannot survive alkalinity, and uses his modular tools to create alkaline water and a purification device. The treatment appears to remove the worms after several hours. 48 49 50
Underground City and Black Egg Building
Separated from Mo Li and Zhong Lichun, Wei protects Wen Jing and the Princess, retrieves supplies, fights off wolves, and navigates the underground ruins. His concern for Mo Li becomes explicit when he reunites with Zhong Lichun and immediately asks about him. 80 122 143
Ancestral Hall and Weasel Possession
Wei carries an unconscious Zhong Lichun through the ancestral hall, feeds two abnormal weasels, and is nearly killed when the Golden Weasel controls Zhong Lichun. He later identifies the weasels as the source of Wen Jing and Xiao Teng’s possession, killing the Silver Weasel to break their control. 366 367 370
Desolate Fox Realm
Wei suffers repeated injuries, temporary blindness, possession-like influence, and black-fur parasitism. He survives the underground lake after bioluminescent fish remove the parasites from his body, then reunites with Mo Li on the shore. 419 427 428 430
