Another Crisis Encountered

"What is this?" Mo Li muttered confusedly, then leaned his face close to the cave wall to examine it. As he looked, Mo Li's expression changed because he saw a large number of skeletons embedded in the cave wall. The faint pale green glow was actually emitted by these bones.

Keep in mind that this was inside a mountain, with hard cave walls on both sides, yet these skeletons were all embedded within the cave walls. No! "Embedded" might not be the right word. If one had to find a suitable adjective, "devoured" would be more appropriate. It was as if these skeletons were being consumed by the cave walls.

"What... what in the world is going on?" Mo Li instinctively took a few steps back and exclaimed with an incredulous expression.

Zhong Lichun didn't answer Mo Li. Instead, she leaned closer to the cave wall to examine it, just like Mo Li. After careful observation, Zhong Lichun drew her military knife and used its tip to touch the skull of a human-shaped skeleton.

"Don't touch these things casually." Mo Li panicked at Zhong Lichun's action and shouted to stop her, but it was too late because Zhong Lichun had already touched the skull with her knife tip.

Buzz buzz~! The moment the knife tip touched the skull, a strange sound emanated from within the skull. The sound wasn't very loud, sounding like a mosquito buzzing near one's ear at night. However, Zhong Lichun and Mo Li had fallen silent, and the cave was exceptionally quiet, so both of them heard the sound.

Almost simultaneously with the sound, the eye sockets of the skull lit up with a faint green glow. This light was much brighter than the fluorescence emitted by the skeletons themselves. At first glance, it looked as if two green flames were burning in the skull's eye sockets.

The light flickering within the skull grew stronger and stronger, eventually emerging from the eye sockets. Zhong Lichun and Mo Li finally saw the true form of this green light: it was a spider, as large as an infant's palm. The spider was black and red all over, and the source of the green light was its abdomen. Zhong Lichun and Mo Li knew about fireflies, but this was their first time seeing a firefly spider. What kind of creature was this?

As they were staring at the spider in a daze, the spider suddenly leaped from the skull without any warning and landed directly on Zhong Lichun.

Regardless, Zhong Lichun was a woman, and women have an innate fear of insects. Almost the moment the spider jumped onto her body, Zhong Lichun let out a scream, then instinctively swatted it to the ground with her hand, and then stomped on it.

However, just as Zhong Lichun was wiping the sticky liquid off her shoe, buzzing sounds echoed again from the surrounding walls. This time, the sound wasn't coming from a single skeleton but from the cave walls all around them.

The scene that followed made Zhong Lichun and Mo Li's scalps tingle. They saw faint green lights flicker to life within the skeletons on both cave walls, and then countless fluorescent spiders crawled out of these skeletons.

"Holy crap! This is a spider nest! Run!" Mo Li was the first to react, shouting in alarm as he ran towards the depths of the cave. Hearing Mo Li's shout, Zhong Lichun finally snapped back to reality, turned, and followed Mo Li, running rapidly towards the cave's interior.

As Mo Li and Zhong Lichun began to flee, the spiders surged after them like a tide. Mo Li glanced back as he ran, and his face turned deathly pale. He saw that the cave behind them was filled with countless spiders chasing them frantically. The dark green fluorescence emanating from the spiders' abdomens formed a vast expanse, and the faint green light illuminated the dark cave to some extent.

Mo Li didn't dare to imagine what would happen if these spiders caught them. Why were there so many strange insects in this damned cave?

In this life-or-death situation, Mo Li and Zhong Lichun unleashed their full potential, running incredibly fast. Rabbits were like snails compared to them, especially Mo Li. When Zhong Lichun arrived at the fork, she had no idea which path Mo Li had taken. Under the pursuit of the vast swarm of spiders behind her, Zhong Lichun didn't dare to delay and could only dash into the left-hand tunnel. Thus, Zhong Lichun and Mo Li were completely separated.
