Hearing Wei Dengke shout, Mo Li rolled his eyes. He suddenly realized that Wei Dengke was somewhat childish. This place was so huge—how could shouting casually possibly be enough to find Zhong Lichun? It couldn't be that simple.
However, what happened next left Mo Li utterly stunned. Not long after Wei Dengke finished shouting, Zhong Lichun's voice suddenly came from their right: "Don't come over! It's dangerous!"
The moment Mo Li and Wei Dengke heard Zhong Lichun's voice, their expressions froze. Her voice was actually trembling. Zhong Lichun was known for her tough personality, so what kind of danger could have made her sound so frightened?
Although Zhong Lichun had told them not to come over, the whole reason they had come here was to find her. How could they possibly stay put? Mo Li glanced at Wei Dengke, then said solemnly, "Wait here. I'll go take a look."
"Wait here? If this place really is dangerous, nowhere is safe. Let's go together. If something happens, at least we can look after each other." Wei Dengke shook his head and earnestly insisted.
What Wei Dengke said was indeed reasonable. This place was too strange, and there might be some hidden danger lurking anywhere. Wei Dengke had almost no combat ability. If Mo Li left him here and he encountered danger, Mo Li would only have to come back and rescue him. After thinking it over briefly, Mo Li nodded. "All right. Follow behind me, and be careful."
After saying this, Mo Li headed toward the direction from which Zhong Lichun's voice had come earlier, with Wei Dengke following close behind. What Mo Li failed to notice was that Wei Dengke had removed something resembling a fountain pen from his strap and was gripping it in his hand.
The Underground World contained countless spherical fungi. Their sizes varied greatly. Some had diameters of over ten meters, while others were only as small as beans. The multicolored spherical fungi made the Underground Cavity look almost magical. If they hadn't seen it with their own eyes, most people probably wouldn't have believed that such a place existed in this world.
After walking around a huge reddish-brown spherical fungus, Wei Dengke and Mo Li stopped in their tracks. They had actually come upon a massive Underground Lake. Its diameter appeared to be at least four hundred meters. The Lake Water was exceptionally clear. Although the dim light made it difficult to see clearly, Mo Li and Wei Dengke could vaguely make out something swimming beneath the surface.
"Didn't I tell you not to come over? Why didn't you listen?" Just as the two stared in shock at the Underground Lake, Zhong Lichun's voice came again, this time from very close by.
Following the sound, they finally saw Zhong Lichun. She was currently lying atop a huge spherical fungus, staring at Mo Li and Wei Dengke in terror. Her eyes were filled with anxiety.
Before either of them could speak to her, a tremendous splash suddenly erupted from the Lake Water beside them. The two turned toward the sound, and the sight before them left them completely stunned.
A gigantic head had emerged from the surface of the lake. It was enormous, at least three meters in diameter by their estimation. Because of the poor lighting, Mo Li and Wei Dengke couldn't make out what kind of creature it was. They could only see a massive silhouette.
"Run!" Zhong Lichun shouted anxiously again while the two stood frozen. This time, they didn't hesitate. They turned and ran. The creature that had poked its head above the lake saw them fleeing, abruptly surged out of the water, and landed on the shore.
When its enormous body struck the ground, the earth actually trembled. Hearing the commotion, Wei Dengke instinctively glanced back. Then he screamed in a shrill voice, "Oh my god! What a huge frog!"
Hearing Wei Dengke's cry, Mo Li also looked back. He was stunned as well. Wei Dengke hadn't been exaggerating. There really was a Giant Frog behind them. How big was it? To put it simply, it was at least as large as a heavy truck. Its entire body was grayish yellow, its skin covered in uneven bumps. Its wax-yellow eyes kept rolling, and waves of foul odor radiated from its body.
The moment the huge frog reached the shore, it began frantically chasing Wei Dengke and Mo Li. What was unbelievable was that, unlike ordinary frogs, it didn't move by jumping. Instead, it ran on all four limbs. Given its size, every stride covered at least three meters. Although it didn't look particularly fast, it had already closed much of the distance to the fleeing pair after only a few steps.
"Run! Faster! It's going to catch you!" Zhong Lichun, still lying atop the huge spherical fungus, grew anxious at the sight and shouted encouragement.
At that moment, Mo Li ran as if he had exhausted every last bit of strength, moving incredibly fast and quickly leaving the pursuing Giant Frog behind. But while he could run that fast, Wei Dengke couldn't. He ran while panting heavily, and the distance between him and the Giant Frog kept shrinking. It would probably catch him in a few seconds at most.
"Ahh! Help!" Just as Mo Li was fleeing for his life, Wei Dengke's desperate scream rang out. Mo Li hurriedly looked back, only to see the Giant Frog shoot out a tongue six or seven meters long. It wrapped around Wei Dengke and dragged him back.
When faced with the desire to survive, people could unleash astonishing potential. Despite his frail appearance, Wei Dengke panicked completely at that moment. As the enormous tongue hauled him toward the Giant Frog's mouth, he actually used his hands and feet to hold open the closing jaws, letting out a series of strange cries.
"You damn frog! I'm not some bug flying around in front of your eyes! Why are you eating me? I don't even taste good!"
Mo Li and Zhong Lichun were both at a loss. Their opponent was simply too large. Even if the two of them attacked together, they couldn't possibly defeat such a creature. But if they did nothing, Wei Dengke would certainly be doomed.
Mo Li gritted his teeth and began running back. He had no idea how he would deal with the Giant Frog after charging back in, but there was no way he could simply watch Wei Dengke get eaten. For now, he could only take things one step at a time.
Wei Dengke strained with all his might to hold open the Giant Frog's mouth, both his arms and legs trembling nonstop. With his strength, he couldn't hold out for long. As he felt his power rapidly fading, cold sweat broke out across his forehead. Then he let out another low growl and suddenly released the hands he had been using to hold open the frog's mouth. The next moment, the Giant Frog's jaws snapped shut, and Wei Dengke vanished before Mo Li and Zhong Lichun's eyes.
