After Zhong Lichun opened the trunk, the ordinary-looking jeep shuddered violently. Then, an electric rack actually extended from the trunk. In just a few seconds, a three-tiered rack appeared before Mo Li.
The entire rack was made of aluminum alloy, with hydraulic rods at the joints and small transmission motors inside to power it. It was practically fully automated.
Of course, what surprised Mo Li most was not the electric rack itself, but what was stored on it. On the top tier was a long, silver metal case. The second tier held several large backpacks. The third tier was rather alarming, as it contained a large number of weapons.
Once the rack had fully extended, Zhong Lichun took down several huge backpacks from the second tier, tossed them onto the ground, and said to Mo Li, "There are cold-weather clothes and jackets in here. Change into them now."
Mo Li froze briefly at Zhong Lichun's words before realizing what she meant. He crouched down and unzipped a backpack, only to find it stuffed full of all kinds of clothing.
Mo Li did not care whether the clothes looked good, so he casually pulled out two pieces and prepared to put them on. Zhong Lichun could not help laughing when she saw what he was doing. It was the first time Mo Li had seen her smile since meeting her. "Take a closer look!" she said. "Those are women's clothes. The men's clothes are in that bag. Or do you have some special preference?"
Hearing that, Mo Li hurriedly unfolded the clothes in his hands and examined them. He truly had not looked carefully before, but now he saw that they were indeed women's clothes. Though cold-weather gear and jackets did not differ much between men's and women's styles, women were generally smaller, so the sizes were much smaller as well. There was no way Mo Li could wear them.
With an embarrassed smile, Mo Li put the clothes back into that backpack and opened another one. This time, it contained men's clothing.
Mo Li was too embarrassed to take off his clothes in front of Zhong Lichun, so he simply put the cold-weather gear and jacket over what he was already wearing. With two extra layers on, he looked somewhat bloated.
Wei Dengke was in no hurry to change. Instead, he walked over to the rack and pulled down the metal case from the top tier. It was enormous and looked extremely heavy. When he set it on the ground, it landed with a loud bang.
After setting the case down, Mo Li noticed that its lock was actually a fingerprint lock. Wei Dengke pressed his thumb against the fingerprint scanner. The case made a series of clicking sounds before slowly opening.
The interior of the case was also complicated. It was not a single layer after opening, but two, with another aluminum alloy frame in the middle. It held numerous strange devices and small machines, as well as many orange-sized metal spheres.
Only after opening the case did Wei Dengke walk over to the backpacks and take out several articles of clothing to put on. He then took a strange strap from the very bottom of the trunk. The strap was quite long. Wei Dengke first wrapped it around his waist, then ran it over both shoulders, finally fastening it securely to his body.
After securing the strap, Wei Dengke began taking items from the metal case one by one and hanging them on himself. He was wearing a dark green jacket, and after all those odds and ends were attached to it, he looked from a distance like a human Christmas tree.
Zhong Lichun also walked over to the backpack containing women's clothes. Then, under Mo Li's astonished gaze, she began taking off her clothes without the slightest concern for anyone else, only stopping when she was down to her underwear. In stark contrast to her beautiful face and lovely figure, her body was covered in scars. Her back in particular bore at least a dozen crisscrossing scars.
Turning her head to glance at Mo Li, who was staring at her without blinking, Zhong Lichun asked in displeasure, "Hey! Have you seen enough? Don't you know it's very rude to stare at a woman while she changes?"
Only then did Mo Li realize his lapse. He quickly turned away in embarrassment and stopped looking at Zhong Lichun. Though she complained aloud, she did not seem to care much about being seen by him. Squatting beside the backpack, she began rummaging through it.
Several minutes later, Zhong Lichun told Mo Li to turn back around. When he saw her again, she looked completely different. Unlike the bloated Mo Li and Wei Dengke, Zhong Lichun had changed into a close-fitting bodysuit. It looked to be made from some kind of leather, but on closer inspection, it had the texture of knitted fabric. The suit made her figure appear even more slender, especially those long legs, which could not help but stir the imagination.
After putting on a very small jacket, Zhong Lichun returned to the trunk and pointed at the weapons on the bottom tier. "Pick one," she said to Mo Li.
"...This will do." Mo Li glanced at those seemingly high-end weapons, then shook his head and took out his pistol, giving it a little wave.
Zhong Lichun frowned at his answer, but did not say anything else. She simply began taking weapons from the rack and hanging them on herself, looking as though she were preparing to go to war.
The entire preparation process took around half an hour. During that time, Zhong Lichun and Wei Dengke took out three bundles of rope from the vehicle and gave one bundle to Mo Li. At that point, their preparations were more or less complete.
Zhong Lichun inserted a magazine into the light machine gun in her hands and said to Mo Li, "All right! Take us to the place where the Yeti attacked you first. Hopefully, it left behind some clues."
Mo Li nodded and took the lead into the woods. Zhong Lichun turned to Wei Dengke and said, "Glasses, walk in the middle. I'll bring up the rear. If we run into trouble, your top priority is staying alive. Don't worry about me or that guy."
"...Tomboy, Mo Li isn't one of us. If we're having him serve as our guide, we should at least ensure his safety, right?" Wei Dengke said with a curl of his lips.
"The fact that he survived a Yeti attack means this guy has some skill. Relax. As long as your safety is assured, I'll protect him too. Let's go!" Zhong Lichun answered casually before heading into the woods. Seeing both Mo Li and Zhong Lichun enter the forest, Wei Dengke hurried after them. However, he had so much equipment hanging off him that he jingled and clattered as he ran, making for a rather comical sight.
After the three entered the woods, Mo Li, being familiar with the area, walked at the front. Out of caution, he had already drawn his police-issued sidearm. His gaze had become intensely focused as he constantly watched for movement around them. Wei Dengke showed little reaction. Instead, he looked around the primitive forest with an appreciative expression. Zhong Lichun walked at the rear, her body held in a half-crouch, one finger always resting on the trigger. Clearly, she was ready to fire at any moment.
