The Hokage's Decree

Uchiha Satsuki became Hokage. Naruto, wanting to look after his wife, naturally became Hokage Assistant.

To everyone else, it was a heartwarming tale of a husband and wife working together. To Naruto, the reason was simple: wherever Satsuki was, he would be there. That was all.

Only after taking the position did Naruto finally understand what all those documents his other self spent his days hunched over in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations actually were.

First came mission requests. Every request from outside the village—escorting caravans, hunting bandits, gathering intelligence... Apart from D-rank odd jobs like finding lost pets, moving goods for shops, or taking elderly people fishing, everything had to pass before the Hokage first.

Only after its feasibility and risk level were confirmed could it go on the Mission Hall noticeboard for ninja teams to take.

Then there were mission payment statements, supply allocation forms, village infrastructure proposals, disability benefit forms for injured ninja, maintenance budgets for training grounds...

There was even a "Proposal to Improve the Ninja Hospital Cafeteria Menu," which sounded like something from a student council.

The more power you had, the more you had to manage. But this was ridiculous! Was the Hokage in charge of every single thing in the village?

Fortunately, Naruto's Shadow Clone Jutsu proved more useful than he could have imagined. He made over a dozen Shadow Clones, each clutching a stack of documents and working away in a corner of the Hokage Office.

So Satsuki never had the sort of "the Hokage Office lights stay on until three in the morning" situation Jiraiya had faced.

It was a hassle for Naruto, but not enough to wear him out. As he worked through the documents, he wondered what his original-story self had done to end up so exhausted.
