Background / History

Shizuka first appears at Starlight in Shimokitazawa, having been brought from Chiba by her former student, Yukino Shita Hiyori, to watch an underground performance. When Hiyori presses the masked Sakurakoji Talent for the reason behind his mask, Shizuka intervenes and tells her not to force an answer from someone who does not want to share it. 19

During Hiyori’s age-guessing game with Talent, Shizuka is unwillingly made the subject of a question. Talent estimates her as eighteen, which delights her and gives her an opening to mock Hiyori’s supposedly older appearance. 20 She is later surprised when Talent removes his mask and reveals his striking appearance. 23

Shizuka becomes a frequent visitor to Starlight. Although she initially grows closer to Talent through his performance, she ultimately forms an especially close friendship with Starlight manager Ichiji Hoshika after the two bond over being treated as “beautiful older women.” 24 49 Their friendship becomes close enough that Shizuka receives early access to the venue and occasionally stays at Hoshika’s home after drinking. 49 101

As a Soubu High teacher, Shizuka encourages Talent to enroll in school and takes responsibility for helping him adjust to student life. Shizuka is frank, emotional, and highly expressive. Despite her temper, Shizuka is considerate of boundaries and protective of younger people.
