Look.
Those foolish idiots.
After the moon of Earth-One rotated forty-five degrees, its uneven surface, influenced by its revolution, turned toward the gleaming surface of Earth suspended in space.
In an instant, countless rays of light bathed William Hand's withered, lifeless face, making everything he saw shine silver and sparkle brilliantly.
He was William Hand, a disciple taught jointly by Batman and Bane. His actions bore the traits of both mentors...
Patience, and planning.
Under William Hand's manipulation, Batman Dragon—no, or rather, Supreme Batman, his teacher—drew everyone's attention through his actions, allowing William to hide in his teacher's shadow and scheme for himself.
When he offered his body to Black Death Emperor, he had already realized that Black Death Emperor could never completely accept his control. He would only pursue death.
And in essence, William Hand could never outbid the others who had offered Black Death Emperor an olive branch when it came to providing death. It was simple:
Take Emperor Joker, for example. If he promised Black Death Emperor that, once everything was done, he could slaughter half the lives in the Dark Multiverse and the positive-matter universes—Earth-One, Earth-Eighteen, or whatever else he wanted to kill, all of it sent to Black Death Emperor to pad his kill count—then who could offer better terms?
Emperor Joker had no bottom line. Anti-Monitor Dragon had no bottom line either. William Hand did, and that was his greatest disadvantage.
He could not satisfy Black Death Emperor without limit in a killing contest. Supreme Batman, his teacher, had never planned from the beginning to use Black Death Emperor's combat strength as a trump card for turning the tables. In his plan, all William had to do was interfere with Black Death Emperor's actions. William had indeed accomplished that, but that was all.
