Background
Perpetua created the Anti-Monitor, the Monitor, and the World Forger as Sixth-Dimensional gods responsible for different aspects of the Multiverse. The Anti-Monitor ruled the Anti-Matter Universe, whose original purpose was guarding the Multiverse's boundary. When the three brothers helped betray Perpetua and create the Source Wall, that barrier made the Anti-Matter Universe's defensive role redundant. Resenting the loss of his purpose, the Anti-Monitor accumulated power through the Anti-Life Equation and initiated the Infinite Earths Crisis. 473
During that crisis, the united Multiverse defeated him. Earth-Two Superman destroyed his body and scattered his soul, though the Anti-Monitor could eventually revive in the Sixth Dimension. Each rebirth left him weakened until he could recover his scattered power. 473
A separate Dark Multiverse incarnation, Mobius, arose after the erased mortal Mobius of the Flashpoint-era timeline combined with residual Anti-Monitor energy in the corpse of a flawed Dark Multiverse Anti-Monitor. Mobius considered himself a broken copy rather than the original, but still possessed the Anti-Monitor's essence, memories, and drive to consume universes for power. 473 474
Mobius initially avoided breaking Barbatos's barrier between the Dark and Light Multiverses. As an incomplete being consuming Dark Multiverses, he feared that revealing himself would provoke Barbatos, whom he considered vastly stronger. 473
Appearance
The Anti-Monitor appears as a massive, armored humanoid with an inhuman, statue-like presence. His true form on Qward is identified as the Darkseid War-era incarnation, though his forces and abilities evoke the far stronger Infinite Earths Crisis version. 472
- Obsidian-like or gray skin beneath heavy armor 481 1009
- A distinctive bullet-shaped helmet and blue outer armor 799 1009
- Burning eyes capable of firing energy beams 472 481
- A cold, expressionless demeanor; even severe wounds often fail to visibly disturb him 483 923
- Can manifest through or empower the dragon-like Anti-Monitor Dragon avatar 809
Personality
The Anti-Monitor is arrogant, calculating, and intensely resentful of the history that reduced him from a Sixth-Dimensional god to a repeatedly defeated cosmic threat. His central obsession is escaping or rewriting the solidified history of the Infinite Earths Crisis, allowing him to reclaim his peak power and freedom from the Over-Time Stream. 835 844 850
He treats allies, avatars, and entire universes as expendable pieces. He manipulates Barbatos through their old connection, seeks to turn Batman Dragon into an Anti-Monitor Bat under his control, and bargains with enemies whenever survival or advantage demands it. 809 857 924
Despite this ruthlessness, he is not blindly destructive. Perpetua's return frightens him because it threatens both him and the Multiverse. This compels him to cooperate with the Monitor—his longtime enemy—and later accept the dangerous creation of Anti-Monitor Bat as a third force against their mother. 570 809 949

Sixth-Dimensional Existence
As a Sixth-Dimensional god, the Anti-Monitor exists across points in the Over-Time Stream and can revive in the Sixth Dimension after physical destruction. 473 713
- Projects power from the upper reaches of the Over-Time Stream into later eras. 554 580
- Observes possible futures and historical outcomes, though doing so risks destabilizing his incomplete presence. 556
- Attempts to alter fixed historical events, particularly the Infinite Earths Crisis. 835 844

Antimatter and Anti-Life Equation
The Anti-Monitor wields antimatter energy and the Anti-Life Equation as both destructive and controlling forces. 473 556
- Fires white, purple, pink, and other energy beams capable of erasing meteorites, overpowering attacks, and annihilating targets. 481 549 556 844

Cosmic Manipulation and Possession
The Anti-Monitor can establish metaphysical links with powerful beings, grant them energy, or exploit those links to seize control. 809 949
- Maintained a “window” into Barbatos, enabling him to invade and suppress Barbatos's will once the Monitor loosened his restraints. 809
- Granted Batman Dragon the Anti-Monitor Bat identity and antimatter authority under desperate circumstances. 949
- Used dark-matter energy patterns to protect Hero Day from Batman Dragon's fifth-dimensional interference. 814
- Can enter the mental space of the Cosmic Tuning Fork, where he and the Monitor hold overwhelming authority. 799
- Ultimately becomes vulnerable to the Nameless Old Dragon's inverse possession and merger. 967 968

- Battles Ultraman, Supreme Superboy, Parallax Hal, and large coalitions of parallel-universe heroes. 476 570 818

Story Role / Major Arcs
Dark Multiverse Invasion
The Mobius incarnation invades Batman's universe from Qward, unleashing Shadow Demons across Earth. Batman bottles the planet with Brainiac technology while confronting the Anti-Monitor directly. 472
The Justice League temporarily suppresses him through teamwork and Batman's repeated Speed Force time resets, but the Anti-Monitor quickly recovers. He later overwhelms the League, uses Anti-Life control, and forces Batman to rely on increasingly extreme plans. 474 481 485
Barbatos's Partner and Puppet
To stabilize his projection into the current timeline, the Anti-Monitor cooperates with Barbatos and attempts to fulfill Barbatos's goal of turning Batman into an Anti-Monitor Batman. His control over Mobius fluctuates: Mobius briefly seeks Batman's help, then returns to the Anti-Monitor's cold, destructive will. 544 548 556
Besieged by heroes from multiple timelines, he reveals Perpetua's imminent return and bargains with Barbatos for an alliance. 570
War for the Over-Time Stream
The Anti-Monitor allies with the Monitor to stop Perpetua, using the agreement to loosen the Monitor's suppression and flood the downstream Over-Time Stream with his power. He seizes Barbatos through the Anti-Monitor Dragon and seeks to reclaim control of the Multiverse. 809
He then targets the Infinite Earths Crisis itself, killing the era's Wonder Woman and manipulating subsequent events so that part of his power survives historical defeat and establishes a true downstream form. 844 848 850
Anti-Monitor Bat and Final Possession
The Anti-Monitor betrays Batman Dragon to negotiate with the World Forger, kills the Monitor, and renews his plan to remake Earth-15 through an Anti-Monitor Bat under his control. Batman Dragon's resistance makes him hesitate until Perpetua's escape leaves no alternative. 923 924 949
After granting the Anti-Monitor Bat identity, he is cornered by the future Nameless Old Dragon. The Nameless Old Dragon uses the First Lantern's attack as an opening, merges into the Anti-Monitor's body, absorbs his power, and takes command of his divine authority. 966 967 968
