Background

Yang Jia was Xiao Xiao's high-school classmate. Widely regarded as the school's most beautiful girl, she was also academically gifted and athletic. She came from a prominent northern family, transferred in for one semester, and later left without explaining how long she would be gone. Even then, she treated people gently while keeping a noticeable distance. 1

She awakened as an Outsider in Black Gate City four years before Xiao Xiao's awakening. The Old Chairman's organization found her and taught her how to survive, after which she left the city and joined the Dante Organization, where she became one of its fastest-rising newcomers. 38 49

Yang Jia eventually returned to Black Gate City to inherit the Old Chairman's ideals: rebuild the local Outsider organization, guide newly awakened Outsiders, and give people in the city a reason not to succumb to despair. 137

Appearance

Yang Jia is a slender, strikingly beautiful woman with clean, delicate features. Her composed appearance and gentle manners make her stand out even when she deliberately keeps others at a distance. 1

Personality

Yang Jia is calm, observant, and measured even in situations that terrify other Outsiders. She initially approaches Xiao Xiao as both a guide and a test subject, but consistently takes responsibility for having brought him into the Outsider world. 5 82

Her gentleness does not make her passive. Yang Jia responds ruthlessly to those who threaten her companions, yet she distinguishes between frightened former allies and those who actively turn against their own people. She considers her “reasoning” to be reserved for comrades. 53 54

Despite her reputation as “Black Hand,” Yang Jia's central goal is hopeful rather than self-serving: she wants Black Gate City's awakened Outsiders to have guidance, mutual aid, and a reason not to go mad. 137 138

She is also notably reckless in battle, a flaw she recognizes herself. During the Rotten Kingdom operation, she destroys entire streets to force the Aberrant Leader to reveal itself and regrets that she is not powerful enough to end the crisis alone. 98
