Background

The Divine Court rose after the shattering of the Ancient Heavenly Court, when the heavens fell into disorder and the realm’s laws became chaotic. Rather than merely conquering through force, it seized control of the realm’s fundamental Order and built its rule around that authority 1392.

Its true age and founding remain unknown. Long Qingyun describes its foundation as stretching back hundreds of thousands of years, while an ancient remnant from the era of the Immortal Court had never heard of the Divine Court at all, placing its establishment long after that forgotten age 1392 1614.

The Court presents itself as the guardian of the Three Realms, hunting evil cultivators, demons, realm-crossers, and rebellions. Its authority extends beyond enforcement: it decides what qualifies as “righteous,” “evil,” or a “Sky Demon,” making those labels instruments of political control as well as religious judgment 1391 1392.

Control of Order

The Divine Court can influence heavenly laws, alter the strength of a cultivator’s breakthrough resonance, and suppress spiritual power in designated regions. This allows it to exercise authority that exceeds ordinary cultivation strength 1392.

Its control also includes the power to conceal information through Heavenly Secrets. Attempts to probe the Court’s deepest secrets may lead to the investigator’s soul being erased without a chance at reincarnation 1392.

Merit, faith, and revival

• The Court’s gods receive worship from living beings and bear Merit, which reportedly grants strength beyond that of cultivators at the same realm 1289.
• Divine Shrines collect faith across cities and domains; the shrine in Apocalypse City alone is sustained by dense, tangible faith power and a hundred-zhang statue of the chief god 1425.
• The Court’s apparent longevity is linked to its control of Merit. Long Qingyun states that revival is possible, but consumes enormous Merit and rare materials while weakening cultivation, damaging memories, altering personality, and eventually risking the loss of one’s true self 1392.
• Divine Court cultivators can host their souls through an unusual art. After Zhang Xiu’s soul was destroyed, burning his body produced neither a damaged-soul reaction nor a Merit phenomenon, as though the corpse were an ownerless shell 1347.

• Classification of realm-crossers — After ascension passages were destroyed, bodiless Plane Fiends began possessing cultivators who crossed between realms. The Divine Court created the Divine Punishment Department to hunt such threats; over time, nearly all cross-realm beings became broadly classified as “Sky Demons,” regardless of intent. 1391

Relationship with Qin He

• Qin He — The Divine Court identifies Qin He as an Interworld Sky Demon because he crossed realms and possesses True Demonic Qi. Qin rejects the label, arguing that the Court brands any existence outside its control as demonic. 1391 1392
• Long Qingyun — A former Divine Court World Patrol Envoy who became disillusioned after being exploited during a secret mission, denied promised resources, and accused of concealing a demonic artifact. His knowledge becomes central to Qin He’s understanding of the Court. 1393 1461

Story Role / Major Arcs

Sin City investigation

The Divine Court dispatches Criminal Apprehension Envoy Zhang Xiu to Sin City to investigate and capture a cross-realm Sky Demon. The operation is backed by promises of protective Merit and admission into the Divine Court for anyone who provides useful information or captures the target 1289.

After Qin He’s Demonic Body manifests in the Demon Abyss, Zhang Xiu’s forces retreat. During the following month, Zhang responds to his fear of the Abyss by ordering indiscriminate purges throughout Sin City; executions reduce the city’s population to less than thirty percent of its former level 1324 1329.

Pursuit of the Sky Demon

The Divine Punishment Department escalates its pursuit after Qin He repeatedly evades or defeats its operatives. A High God convenes the department, rebukes six Divine Punishment Envoys for failing to capture him, and authorizes a large-scale encirclement led by Red Lotus and Li LInfeng 1373.

At Earth Pole Mountain, Qin He defeats multiple envoys, destroys the Heavenly Net Formation, and deliberately allows Li LInfeng to escape so that the Court will redirect its search toward him rather than Aurora Village 1390 1391.

Merit conflict and the fall of the Merit Tower

While impersonating Purple Sun High Person, Qin He secretly establishes worship of the Bull-Riding Immortal Venerable and diverts incense, Thought Power, and Merit through Divine Shrines across thirty-six cities 1405 1407.

The Court detects the abnormal faith network and mobilizes against Qin He. Its forces destroy his statues and surround him with Saints, Saint Kings, and the Sky-Seeking Divine Realm 1416 1421 1429.

During this conflict, a Black Demon Shadow destroys the Merit Tower by exploiting contradictions between Merit laws and True Demon qi. The surviving Saints identify it as an “aberration of laws” capable of devouring and reconciling powers that the Divine Court considers mutually opposed 1432.

Blackwind Abyss operation

The Divine Court establishes a blockade around Blackwind Abyss with eighteen Divine Punishment deputy envoys, ten Saints, the Sky-Seeking Divine Realm, and the Abyss-Locking Array. The Divine Punishment Department High God orders Qin He’s death at any cost and authorizes use of the Heavenly Derivation Technique 1449.

After the Heaven-Seeking Divine Mirror and Nine-Ring Star Disk locate Qin He, the High God personally launches Order Heavenly Punishment. Qin is badly wounded before Bone Liuli awakens and destroys the High God’s avatar with a single manifestation of the Glazed Dao Principle 1452 1453.

Continued surveillance and infiltration

The Court later detects Qin He’s Nine-Ray Saint Tribulation through the Tribulation Heaven Mirror. Unable to identify the transcender within the Heavenly Secrets-obscured Cangming Sea, its clerks determine that such a talent cannot be allowed to remain outside Divine Court control 1555.

The Divine Punishment Department subsequently traces the residual True Demonic Qi of a newly ascended Saint, concludes that the legendary Sky Demon has reached the Saint Realm, seals the sea region, and activates a High God Beacon 1564.

Meanwhile, Qin He assumes the identity of the deceased Realm Patrol Envoy Lin Yan and infiltrates the Divine Court to obtain information on his subordinates, realm nodes, and the Court’s internal structure 1461 1480.

Returning Ruins crisis

The Divine Court’s central army is stationed at the Returning Ruins, where demonic energy is increasingly leaking through a spatial rift. After heavy losses and the unexplained self-immolation of an Ancient Ape Remnant Husk, the High Gods of the Divine War, Merit, and Divine Punishment Departments order reinforcements and a Heavenly Secrets investigation 1622.

A later High God Soul Interrogation exposes multiple infiltrators in the central army camp. Qin He survives the examination because his Demon Shell secret art and fabricated identity have been integrated into his soul without detectable flaws 1629.
