Grandmaster's Confusion
"Uh, Teacher was poisoned, that's right, but Feng Ge brought you back to life afterward."
Tang San explained.
Grandmaster's expression was incredibly colorful, as though he had just heard someone spouting nonsense.
Qin Feng had saved him? That had been Black Mandala Snake venom. Let alone Qin Feng, even the Dean of Notting Academy would have been powerless. Unless he returned to his clan and had its members intervene, there might have been some hope.
The moment he lay down and closed his eyes, he had already accepted that his life was over.
If anyone else had said this, Grandmaster would not have had the slightest desire to listen.
But Xiao San had said it. The child looked exceptionally sincere and should not have been lying.
Could Xiao Feng really have saved him? But how had he done it?
"Very well. Though it's hard to believe, I'll trust you this once, Xiao San. Then I'd like to know how Xiao Feng removed the snake venom just now."
Grandmaster looked at Qin Feng, then shifted his gaze to Tang San.
"Teacher, perhaps you'd better not know."
Seeing the serious look on his teacher's face, Tang San said with a helpless smile.
"How can that be? Have you forgotten what I told you? You must learn to explore the truth. Since you say I didn't die and was saved, then let me see the evidence."
Grandmaster spoke with stubborn determination.
"Prove that my dad is my dad?"
After hearing Grandmaster's words, a phrase suddenly popped into Qin Feng's mind.
It seemed Grandmaster had slept too long and his brain was a little oxygen-starved. He needed a hammering to clear his head.
"Grandmaster, do you really want to know how I treated you?"
Qin Feng walked over and asked in an unusual tone.
"Xiao Feng, you must understand that the pursuit of knowledge is the most fundamental spirit of a scholar."
Grandmaster replied.
"Fine. The pursuit of knowledge."
Qin Feng summoned the Two-Form Heavenly Gang Hammer.
"X-Xiao Feng, y-you, what are you trying to do?!"
Grandmaster stared at Qin Feng and backed away two steps in terror.
"Didn't you say scholars are people who seek knowledge, Grandmaster? Then I'll show you how I treated you."
Qin Feng approached with the hammer in hand.
"Feng Ge, go easy. Don't hurt Teacher."
Tang San patted his forehead and said.
Then a series of crackling screams rang through the forest for several minutes.
"Absurd! Absolutely absurd!!"
"How is this possible? It's simply unbelievable!"
Beside a campfire, Grandmaster slapped his thigh.
Qin Feng's hammer really could heal injuries. If one ignored the pain, then the more it struck, the more invigorated one became.
Moreover, Qin Feng had absorbed a Thousand-Year Spirit Ring. That was even more shocking than Qin Feng curing his snake venom!
"Teacher, have a bowl of meat soup first."
Tang San took a spoon and served Grandmaster a bowl of soup.
Grandmaster happily took a sip, and his whole body seemed to regain its vitality.
Of course, Qin Feng knew why Grandmaster was so worked up. The Ten Core Competencies of Martial Soul theory he had spent half his life researching had run into a cheat like him. How could the man not feel exhausted?
"Xiao Feng, show me the Thousand-Year Spirit Ring again."
Grandmaster looked at Qin Feng, unwilling to accept it.
Soul Power surged from Qin Feng, and in an instant, a purple Spirit Ring appeared.
"Heh. Xiao San is a practitioner of my Ten Core Competencies of Martial Soul, while you, Xiao Feng, have become a trampler of them. I truly don't know whether I should laugh or cry."
Seeing the purple Spirit Ring again, Grandmaster looked at Xiao Feng with a bitter smile.
The first of the Ten Core Competencies of Martial Soul concerned Spirit Ring age. The first ring could be no more than four hundred and twenty-three years old.
The reason Grandmaster could state such a precise number was because he had absolute confidence in his research.
Yet he had never expected Qin Feng to produce a Thousand-Year Spirit Ring. It was utterly unprecedented. To be honest, he was feeling rather lost now.
Had he been too narrow-minded all these years? Had his investigations been incomplete?
"That Thunder Tyrant Tiger had only just advanced to a thousand years. I was simply lucky."
Qin Feng said to Grandmaster.
He was afraid of dealing Grandmaster too severe a blow and making him lose heart completely.
He understood that feeling. It was like painstakingly writing a thesis of tens of thousands of words, only to discover that even the simplest data had been wrong. Qin Feng had experienced that feeling when he graduated.
If his ability to bear it had been any weaker at the time, he might have jumped straight from the eighth floor of Bright Virtue Building at school.
That had been the work of an entire academic year.
Now, the theories Grandmaster had studied for a lifetime and revered as truth had been forcibly torn apart by Qin Feng.
Anyone would have felt terrible.
"A scholar must seek knowledge and constantly criticize and spur himself onward. Xiao Feng, you have opened a new chapter for me."
Grandmaster patted Qin Feng's shoulder, looking much more at ease.
In the blink of an eye, it was the next morning.
Since Grandmaster's body had yet to fully recover, Qin Feng and Xiao San supported him out of Soul Hunting Forest.
Once they reached the market outside, they rented a carriage and had a much easier time.
After a bumpy journey, they finally returned to Notting Academy.
Qin Feng and Tang San worked together to help Grandmaster up to the loft.
Grandmaster's residence was in the loft. His study was in front, while the sleeping area was behind it.
"That will do. You two children have truly worked hard."
Grandmaster sat on a stool and looked at the two with great gratification.
At Notting Junior Spirit Master Academy, he was merely a guest instructor. Aside from being friends with the Dean, he had no family or relatives there.
These two children had allowed him to experience the feeling of family here for the first time.
"Xiao Feng, Xiao San, you can go to Spirit Hall to test your Soul Power later. Once you become Spirit Masters, you can receive one gold coin each month, so you won't need to be Work-Study Students anymore."
Seated on the stool, Grandmaster said to them.
"Teacher, I'll go get you some lunch."
Xiao San was preparing to leave. They had been hungry all morning after returning from Soul Hunting Forest.
"Don't worry, I won't starve to death. Besides, I have some stored dry rations here. Go take care of your own business."
Grandmaster waved his hand.
"This..."
Tang San hesitated.
"My body is unwell, so my work may be on hold, but you cannot put your cultivation on hold. That would be a grave mistake."
Grandmaster naturally knew what Xiao San was thinking. The boy's first thought had been to take care of him, and Grandmaster was deeply gratified.
But compared with himself, the two boys' cultivation was more important.
He certainly could not allow Xiao San to stop cultivating for his sake. Besides, after the treatment from the Nine-Heart Blood Begonia, his body had already improved greatly. And he was, after all, a level twenty-nine Soul Grandmaster. Why would he need two children to care for him?
"Fine, but Teacher, remember to eat."
Qin Feng and Tang San walked down from the loft.
"Xiao San, why do you look so absent-minded?"
Seeing Tang San walking with his head lowered, Qin Feng asked in confusion.
Just then, a small, thin figure rushed toward them!
