Background / History
Yu Xiaogang devoted his life to researching Martial Souls and Spirit Master advancement despite his limited cultivation. His research included thirty-nine exceptional geniuses, 120 ordinary geniuses, and 3,200 ordinary Spirit Masters, from which he developed the Fastest and Slowest Advancement Theory. 19
At Notting Junior Spirit Master Academy, he accepted Tang San as his direct disciple. Qin Feng's unprecedented advancement and Two-Form Heavenly Gang Hammer immediately drew his attention; he identified the Martial Soul as extremely rare and warned Qin Feng not to reveal it before gaining the strength to protect himself. 19
He personally led Tang San and Qin Feng into the Soul Hunting Forest to obtain their first Spirit Rings. During the expedition, he taught them Spirit Ring compatibility and placed his research into practice by encouraging Tang San to absorb the Black Mandala Snake's ring despite its incompatibility with conventional assumptions about plant-type Martial Souls. 25 26 27
Grandmaster was later poisoned nearly to death by the Black Mandala Snake. Qin Feng saved him and revealed a Thousand-Year first Spirit Ring, forcing Grandmaster to confront the limitations of his long-held theory on Spirit Ring age limits. 32 37
At Shrek Academy, he became the students' trainer and continued to direct their development. He trusted Qin Feng and Tang San to arrange Shrek's tournament lineup, but Qin Feng repeatedly rejected his instruction and refused to become his disciple. 129 341 413
His relationship with Qin Feng increasingly deteriorated as Grandmaster challenged Qin Feng's independence, questioned his choices, and attempted to assert his authority as a teacher. Qin Feng later reminded him that, as a Shrek teacher, Grandmaster was also his employee. 722
After Tang San and the others inherited godhoods, Grandmaster attempted to direct their Seven-in-One Soul Fusion Skill. Tang San explained that Grandmaster could not command a fusion of divine souls, while Liu Erlong forcibly removed him from the danger zone. 1106
Personality
Grandmaster is intensely scholarly, methodical, and driven to prove Martial Soul theory through practical results. He was willing to challenge accepted doctrine when guiding Tang San's absorption of the Black Mandala Snake Spirit Ring, and Qin Feng's abnormal Spirit Rings made him reconsider the certainty of his own research. 27 37
He also possesses a strong need for recognition. He admits that his publications and efforts were motivated by a desire to prove that Yu Xiaogang was not worthless, and he takes particular pride in Tang San's achievements as his direct disciple. 200 986
His confidence often turns into stubbornness and bluntness. He speaks in absolutes, underestimates Qin Feng repeatedly, and struggles to accept that his theories no longer apply to higher divine powers. 982 1105 1106
Despite these flaws, Grandmaster is genuinely protective of Tang San and concerned for his students' cultivation and safety. He personally searched for suitable Spirit Rings, warned against dangerous absorption attempts, and feared Tang San would be harmed by reckless choices. 19 26 319
