History
Imperial Lineage and decline
Thirty thousand years before Lin Shuguang’s arrival, the Baojian Sect was the only sect qualified to hold the Great Qian Dynasty’s Imperial Lineage. During a catastrophe that damaged even the dynasty’s dragon vein, its strongest Protector Supreme left seclusion on a mysterious mission 665.
The Supreme Token disappeared with an ancient sect expert. When the sect later approached destruction, its leadership searched unsuccessfully for the token’s holder, whose strength they believed could resolve the crisis. The Baojian Sect ultimately lost its Imperial Lineage status, and many of its cultivation legacies became incomplete 657 666 705.
Ancestor Chen later accepted responsibility for the Black Prison to secure the sect’s survival. The appointment required him to suppress disturbances and punish cultivators from other sects, creating lasting enemies. He eventually petitioned to remain in Xuanyuan City himself while the sect’s elites returned to Central Province 704.
Over several hundred years, the sect recovered enough to become a leading regional power. Its survival still depended heavily on Ancestor Chen’s strength and connections, while its leaders continued seeking a route back to Imperial Lineage status 656 685.
Opening the Five Elephants trade route
Thirty years before Lin Shuguang’s journey, a Baojian Sect expert severed a mountain with one sword strike and drove four great demon kings into the Five Elephants Mountain Range’s interior. The victory opened a trade route through territory previously controlled by ferocious beasts 650.
The expert had reached Grand Perfection in the Spirit Transformation Realm. Sword intent from the strike remained at the battle site for thirty years, still dangerous enough to injure travelers who activated their cultivation methods nearby 650 651.
Return of the Supreme Token
Lin Shuguang arrived while the sect was recruiting ahead of the State and National Selections. His genuine Supreme Token brought the entire leadership together: ancestral law entitled its bearer to become Holy Son, but several elders opposed appointing someone without a Sword Embryo 656 657 665.
The leadership assigned him to Clear Sword Peak and delayed recognizing his position until he reached the Core Realm. His rapid mastery of sect techniques and victories over higher-realm disciples strengthened his supporters’ case, while his winning streak pushed previously complacent disciples into intensive training 664 665 670.
After Lin reported reaching the Core Realm, Zhang Wuhao ordered the information kept secret and authorized cultivation resources without a public celebration. Following the Demon Mountain disaster during the State Selection, the sect dispatched elders to find its scattered disciples and brought survivors home 683 697.
Crisis and war with Donghua Island
Ancestor Chen warned Zhang Wuhao that he had only five years left to live. His death would leave the sect’s resources exposed to stronger factions, and his repeated refusals of invitations from Xuanyuan City were already arousing suspicion 685.
The immediate confrontation came when Hua Tianyin, the Donghua Island Master’s son, infiltrated the sect. Elder Qu defeated him, and Zhang Wuhao destroyed the Island Master’s attacking avatar with a single sword strike. Zhang then severed relations with Donghua Island and ordered Hua Tianyin crippled and imprisoned in Black Crow Cave 701 702.
Zhang declared that the sect would stand united and fight to the death. Ancestor Chen attacked Donghua Island, while Zhang personally led thousands of disciples and elders into battle aboard two treasure boats. Donghua Island’s destruction forced watching factions to reassess the Baojian Sect’s remaining strength 702 703 704.
On the subsequent journey to Xuanyuan City, Ancestor Chen struck thirteen more times against sects that had previously troubled the Baojian Sect. These attacks were intended to deter further interference during his absence 704.
Xuanyuan City and the Guardian Supreme’s return
Ancestor Chen escorted Lin Shuguang to Xuanyuan City as the sect’s Holy Son and arranged his entry into the Black Prison. His arrival ended a three-hundred-year absence of Baojian Sect disciples there and renewed speculation that the sect intended to challenge the Jade Void Palace’s Imperial Lineage 702 705 709.
The final revelations establish that “Demon Mountain” had deceived and trapped the Guardian Supreme through the World Will for tens of thousands of years. During the continent-wide upheaval preceding Eternal Night, the Baojian Sect welcomed the Guardian Supreme back 786.
Organization
Leadership
| Position | Holder | Details |
|---|---|---|

| Supreme Elder | Ancestor Chen / Chen Changsheng | The sect’s principal deterrent against outside powers. Later identifies his current realm as Nirvana 685 699 705. |
| Ancient protector | Thirteenth Generation Guardian Supreme | Associated with the Supreme Token and the sect’s hopes of resurgence. The sect welcomes his return in the finale 704 705 786. |
| Holy Son | Lin Shuguang | Supreme Token bearer and Clear Sword Peak disciple; an exceptional saber practitioner within a sword sect 665 666 702. |

| Peak Master of Clear Sword Peak | Name not provided | Defends Lin’s eligibility and arranges support before reporting his breakthrough to the Sect Master 664 683. |
| Peak Master of Fire Sword Peak | Peak Master Chen | Opposes Lin’s immediate appointment and proposes the Core Realm requirement 664 665. |
- Succession: Each Sect Master is carefully chosen by the preceding generation, with loyalty and strength treated as essential qualifications 666.
- Holy Son privileges: The position grants priority access to pills and cultivation methods, eligibility for future sect leadership, and a guaranteed State Selection place 659 664.
Peaks
- Clear Sword Peak — Lin Shuguang and Xu Baiyang’s home peak. Known for protecting its members rather than competing over every internal dispute; its summit is second in height only to the mountain holding the Main Hall 675 684.
- Fire Sword Peak — A competitive faction whose members clash with Lin and Clear Sword Peak over challenges and the Supreme Token 664 675.
- Yin Jian Peak — Associated with the Wushan Sword Technique used by Su Beichen during his attack on Lin’s courtyard 680.
Notable disciples
- Xu Baiyang — A high-rank Core Realm disciple of Clear Sword Peak. Guides Lin through sect life, lends him money, and defends him during the Ji Mingye dispute 657 659 675.
- Qi Tianming — A Ninth Heaven Core Realm senior disciple and one of the sect’s leading competitors; joins the attack on Donghua Island 684 703.
- Luo Zixu — A proud Fire Sword Peak disciple who opposes Lin and attempts to intervene on Ji Mingye’s behalf 669 675.
- Ji Mingye and Ji Daohe — Brothers involved in the attempt to obtain Lin’s Supreme Token; Ji Mingye loses a life-against-token wager 672 675.
- Qin Xiaoyue — Aspires to enter the sect and later appears among its newly admitted disciples 649 684.
Cultivation and Sword Arts
Sword Embryos and Dao entry
- The sect pursues the Dao through swordsmanship. Its ordinary disciples possess Sword Embryos, which accelerate sword comprehension, practice, and physical development 666 670.
- Its conventional Dao-entry method relies on the Sword Embryo, making Lin’s lack of one an unprecedented obstacle to his advancement 666 670.
- Elder Qu discovers an ancestral manuscript describing an alternative: independently condensing one’s own Martial Dao without a Sword Embryo or Martial Dao embryo 681.
Preserved techniques
| Technique | Description |
|---|---|
| Piercing Wind Hall | A Yellow-grade sword art created by an ancestor. Despite its apparent simplicity, it combines fundamental principles from many kinds of swordsmanship 657 666. |
| Exploding Star Radiance Sword | A sect sword technique learned by Lin during his early training 659. |
| Thunder Annihilation | A supreme mental cultivation method restricted to core figures such as the Sect Master and Holy Son. Its incomplete inheritance prevented the current Sect Master from reaching its highest realm 666. |
| Wushan Sword Technique | Yin Jian Peak swordsmanship used by Su Beichen against Lin 680. |
- Damaged inheritance: After losing the Imperial Lineage, the sect retained many incomplete methods. Even Earth-grade sword techniques became difficult to obtain, while Heaven-grade techniques were still less accessible 666.
- Foundational value: Its surviving lower-grade arts preserve principles developed by prominent ancestors. Lin uses those principles to refine his own saber arts and physical attributes 670 676.
Rules and Training
Sect laws
- Private fighting is forbidden. Internal disputes are expected to follow sect rules rather than be settled through unauthorized violence 659 675.
- Ancestral commands bind the leadership. The elders cannot simply disregard the Supreme Token bearer’s right to the Holy Son position 659 664 665.
- Newcomers receive protection. Entering platform challenges means surrendering the protection Lin initially enjoys under Clear Sword Peak 659.
- Violations carry serious consequences. An elder cites the expulsion of a Third Heaven Core Realm disciple when warning new recruits that the sect’s laws are not empty words 700.
Challenge matches
| Rule or Milestone | Reward or Effect |
|---|---|
| Standard challenge | Usually fought within the same realm; lower-ranked disciples may challenge those ranked above them 659. |
| Match victory | Awards Small Core Pills, with increasing rewards for winning streaks 659. |
| Cross-level challenge | Doubles ordinary rewards and winning-streak rewards 659. |
| Six consecutive victories | Adds one sword technique to the rewards 666. |
| Eleven consecutive victories | Adds three sword techniques to the rewards 666. |
The sect also holds larger tournaments. Preparations for the State and National Selections take priority over organizing one during Lin’s early stay 659.
Training culture
- Before Lin’s arrival, elders criticize disciples for becoming complacent after achieving their goal of entering a prestigious sect 670.
- His victories over Core Realm seniors break down the perception that higher-realm disciples are unchallengeable, encouraging intensive practice across several cultivation levels 670 700.
- Instruction emphasizes resilience: losing a fight is acceptable, but surrendering one’s fighting spirit is not 700.
Grounds and Equipment
- Main Hall and Great Hall — Sites of leadership assemblies, including debates over the Supreme Token and Holy Son appointment 656 657 664.
- Training Ground and Challenge Platforms — Used for instruction, cultivation, and ranked matches 657 659.
- Forbidden Ground — A mist-shrouded area connected to Ancestor Chen’s secluded residence 685.
- Back Mountain courtyard — Zhang Wuhao’s private retreat, planted with flowers and greenery; access is restricted even for elite disciples 697.
- Ancestral Shrine — Houses tablets of successive ancestors, whose lingering Sword Intent resonates with Zhang’s vow before the war 702.
- Black Crow Cave — The imprisonment site chosen for Hua Tianyin after his cultivation is crippled 702.
- Supreme Token — Ancient command token establishing its bearer’s right to become Holy Son; its return also raises fears of renewed suppression by the powers holding the Imperial Lineage 665.
- Boundless Bright Day Treasure Boats — Costly flying transports. One is described as carrying three hundred people and traveling thirty thousand kilometers per day; two are deployed against Donghua Island 684 685 703.
- Spiritual Artifact swords — Rare among disciples: only the sect’s three foremost Heavenly Prides possess them when Su Beichen arrives. Unlike ordinary iron swords, they can be nurtured with blood essence and linked to their wielders’ minds 671.
- Thirteenth Generation Guardian Supreme’s blood-red sword — Entrusted to Zhang Wuhao by the Night Watcher as the sect prepares for war; Zhang accepts its lethal cost 702.
External Relationships
- Great Qian Dynasty — Formerly recognized the sect as its Imperial Lineage. The sect later accepted Black Prison service as the price of survival, while its historical Taiyi connections remained a source of imperial suspicion 665 704.
- Jade Void Palace — Current Imperial Lineage holder and organizer of the State Selection. Its members interpret Lin’s arrival at the Black Prison as a possible attempt to contest their position 685 709.
- Donghua Island — Former pact partner turned enemy after Hua Tianyin’s intrusion and the Island Master’s attack. Destroyed in the Baojian Sect’s retaliation 702 703 704.
- Taiyi Immortal Sect — Once stood on equal footing with the Baojian Sect. Its former Sect Master and the Baojian Sect’s Thirteenth Generation Guardian Supreme were biological brothers 704.
- Violet Orchid Merchant Team — Delivers supplies to the sect. Its young master previously refused an invitation to join 651.
- Su Beichen — Visiting son of the Central Continent Elder, admitted to study under Elder Qu on the same instructional terms as ordinary sect disciples 671.
