Appearance
Meng Changqing appears to be a young man of about twenty. His looks are only slightly above average, but his plain dress and approachable bearing contrast sharply with the Envoy’s hauteur. 165
- Dresses simply and plainly. 165
- Has a gentle, spring-breeze-like manner when conversing with others. 165
- Can project an oppressive aura through a Foundation Establishment Perfected clone when borrowing his main body’s power. 292
Personality
Meng Changqing is benevolent, principled, and strongly opposed to treating cultivators as disposable resources. He favors measured action, accountability, and rewards based on merit, frequently clashing with Du En’s willingness to take immediate risks for a decisive result. 209 211 297
He is approachable toward subordinates and actively seeks capable companions rather than obedient tools. When recruiting Du En, he explicitly states that he wants someone able to endure pressure, judge circumstances calmly, and act independently. 167 211
Despite his composure, Meng Changqing can become frustrated, verbose, and self-conscious—particularly when discussing his ideals or Daoist name. He is also highly competitive, feeling pressure from Du En’s rapid advancement while remaining genuinely pleased by his ally’s achievements. 211 213 382 446

Story Role
Arrival at Nanmo Border City
Meng Changqing arrives in Nanmo Border City with a hundred Foundation Establishment Perfected guards while the Envoy’s faction is already moving against Du En. His approachable conduct immediately distinguishes him from the Envoy, and he takes interest in Du En’s merits and information. 165 167
During the ensuing conflict, he recognizes Du En’s combat ability, offers to reforge Du En’s robe from leopard skins, and coordinates his guards against the Envoy’s ambush. 172
Southern Cang Ruins Conflict
Meng Changqing’s campaign against the Envoy is undermined when Tang Yiping joins the opposing side. With his forces pressured by formations, armored soldiers, and Tang Yiping’s Golden Core cultivation, Meng Changqing is forced into a disadvantage. 183
Du En’s intervention with Hundred Artifact Control and the appearance of the Grudge/Sin enable Meng Changqing’s group to escape. Meng Changqing then works with Du En to investigate the Evil Cultivators’ sacrificial site and the underground palace beneath the Southern Cang Ruins. 185 186
Inside the ruins, he explains the five categories of combat power to Du En and transfers pressure onto the Envoy through the Evil Mother Body. 187 He later accepts the Southern Cang Venerable’s Daoist magic and responsibility for combating Grudges. 209
Recruitment of Du En
After resolving the immediate crisis, Meng Changqing rewards Du En with Spirit Stones, treasure-vault access, cultivation techniques, and other privileges. 211
He attempts to recruit Du En but accepts an arrangement based on mutual benefit rather than blind loyalty. Meng Changqing supports Du En’s independence, resources, and advancement while hoping to guide him away from unscrupulous methods. 211 312
Sect Politics and the Thousand Day Grand Competition
Meng Changqing opposes the Thousand Day Grand Competition because of its brutality and the damage it can inflict on competitors’ foundations and Dao hearts. 314
He nevertheless uses his political influence to support Du En during the competition, arranging a fairer matchup and covertly misleading rival True Lords about Du En’s limits. 324 329 After Du En’s rise to Soul Transformation, Meng Changqing grants him Mount Kongsang, cultivation opportunities, secret methods, and the position of Acting Envoy. 344
Conflict with Other True Lords
Meng Changqing’s faction repeatedly clashes with True Lord Huiqing and True Lord Buyi. Huiqing seeks to eliminate Du En and modifies Meng Changqing’s evil-suppression method to increase the likelihood that he will perish with the Grudge. 297 322
His hostility toward Buyi escalates in the Life Source Star Realm, where Meng Changqing’s true form abruptly traps Buyi within a constructed small world. 424
He also maintains an uneasy relationship with True Lord Chengru: Chengru’s assistance and immense resources are useful, but Meng Changqing remains suspicious of his motives and resents being maneuvered through obligation. 383 450
Integration and Self-Reliance
Upon reaching Integration, Meng Changqing is summoned by Luoyu Supreme Being. The encounter confronts him with the overwhelming gap between himself and his master, causing him to question Luoyu’s intentions and resolve to become self-reliant. 552
Later, he concludes that his growth may have been guided or distorted by stronger figures. Rather than accept this passively, he chooses to establish his own Great Dao and reclaim the talent he believes should have been his. 617 631
