In the conference room.
Several figures sat around a round table.
The auras emanating from them made the surrounding air seem to congeal.
A stack of documents lay on the table, with dozens of photographs scattered haphazardly about.
"Are you certain it was their doing?"
Zhou Wuliang held several photos, flipping through them repeatedly. His eyes trembled slightly, veins bulged on the back of his hand, and his clouded gaze brimmed with complex killing intent!!
"From the first to today, forty-nine people have gone missing in North Sea over the past twenty-three days. Judging from the order, it started with infants and gradually moved up to the elderly and women. The latest missing person was a thirty-five-year-old middle-aged man in the prime of his life. With such a gradual hunting pattern, I can only think of those things."
The man speaking wore rimless glasses and rapidly relayed the intelligence.
"Heh, those things really have some nerve. They actually dared to come to Ancestral Star. Who knows how much of its own blood and qi—and how many of its kin—it had to sacrifice to cross the Starry Sky Great Wall. Now it's replenishing its blood and qi."
An elderly Bearded Man spoke, his voice seeming to contain the clash of metal and iron.
"It isn't surprising. North Sea is different from other cities. It is one of the recorded cities. It's normal for a 'beast' to sneak in." The speaker wore a Daoist robe, his eyebrows extending all the way to his cheekbones. With his eyes half-lidded, he had the air of an immortal sage.
"Was it them?!!!" Zhou Wuliang's voice was hoarse. He raised his head and repeated the question, murderous intent blazing in his eyes like fire. Even the space around him seemed to distort.
The others were not surprised by Zhou Wuliang's reaction. They had long known certain truths.
The man with glasses tapped the air with his finger, and a projection appeared before them.
"That 'beast' is difficult to track. The cameras on Ancestral Star cannot capture its image. Fortunately, the latest Optical Monitoring has already been introduced in the area under my jurisdiction."
As he spoke, the projection began playing surveillance footage.
It was an afternoon. An elderly woman who appeared to be in her sixties stood trembling before her door, taking out her key.
Her hand shook slightly. After several attempts, she finally managed to unlock the door and walked inside.
The footage appeared entirely normal, without the slightest anomaly. Yet the video froze at the exact second the old woman entered, turned around, and prepared to close the door.
Then the projection continuously zoomed in, going deeper.
Until, at last, when the view focused entirely on that door—
A tall, savage figure appeared before them. It seemed to step out from the other side of the door. One hand rested atop the old woman's head, while its own head faced the surveillance camera.
Its mouth, filled with sharp teeth, split upward into a horrifying grin. Scarlet eyes seeped with "mud," and gills covering its entire face opened and closed happily. It was clearly looking at the camera, yet it felt as though it were staring directly into the eyes of everyone present.
Zhou Wuliang's pupils suddenly contracted. He shot to his feet as bolts of Thunder Light seemed to erupt from the void around him. His eyes were bloodshot. "You really dared to come to Blue Star. You really dared to come!"
"Good! Good!!! Qi Zi, I'm going to avenge you. If I say I'll slaughter its clan, then I'll slaughter its entire clan!!"
"Soon. Soon, this old man will send them down to join you!!"
Zhou Wuliang spoke in a low voice. Behind the frail old man, a bright and majestic phantom gradually emerged.
"Old Zhou, calm down. You can't find it right now. That clan is best at hiding, and it must have depleted its blood and qi to enter Ancestral Star. Its blood and qi are weak now, making it even harder to find. If you rashly go out now, you might alert it and ruin everything again!"
"Don't forget what their clan's trait is." The elderly Bearded Man was quite close to Old Zhou. He grabbed Old Zhou's shoulder and tried to calm him.
Hearing this, Old Zhou took a deep breath and closed his eyes. When he opened them again, they were as clear as water, and the bright phantom behind him slowly dissipated as well.
"Old Xiong, thank you." Zhou Wuliang spoke to the Bearded Man.
Seeing that Zhou Wuliang had calmed down, the other man sat back down.
"What plans does the Public Security Bureau have for catching this 'beast'?" Zhou Wuliang looked at the man with glasses.
Seeing Zhou Wuliang calm down, the man with glasses finally let out the breath he had been holding. These people were all big shots from New Star. If they truly made a move, he could not stop them—and would not stop them. After all, he only had one life.
"A student once found the missing person's bag and handed it over to the Public Security Bureau. According to our analysis, that 'beast' may have been hiding nearby when he found the bag, but for some reason, it did not attack him. Based on what we know about that 'beast'—
"Any humans who appear while it is feeding will be marked as reserve food. Therefore, we believe this child is very likely to become its target. We will contact him afterward and have him cooperate with us as bait."
Zhou Wuliang knew this race's habits very well and understood that the plan was indeed feasible.
"Fine. When the plan begins, I will go personally." Zhou Wuliang spoke, then shifted his gaze to the others.
"I know why all of you returned to Ancestral Star. The Dou Shuai Palace Ruins have appeared, and the eyes of all races are on humanity. Ancestral Star truly can no longer keep itself hidden. Those ambitious fellows will begin coming to Ancestral Star openly and covertly.
"The Federation has grown too quickly. The myriad races have long coveted the secret behind the Federation's rise. The Starry Sky Great Wall cannot stop their ambition.
"The Federation has given us the chance to explore the ruins, and likewise, we have the duty to kill those 'beasts' that come to Ancestral Star. To you, the ruins are what matter most. But I returned to Ancestral Star because it may have infiltrated Blue Star.
"I am not asking you to help me, but do not trip me up either. Otherwise, do not blame Zhou for being ruthless!"
Zhou Wuliang spoke in a deep voice.
They had all come to Ancestral Star for an enormous opportunity. The transformation of Ancestral Star and the Martial Examination quotas were both connected to that opportunity. Even their recruitment of students was part of their planning for it.
It could be said that they were all future rivals. Using certain methods and throwing a few obstacles in each other's path was only natural. But Zhou Wuliang would never allow anyone to obstruct him at such a time.
This matter was the regret of his entire life. He had to bring everything to an end on Blue Star.
"Why does Old Zhou view us this way? We are human. All nonhuman foreign races are our enemies!"
"That's right!! The Federation stands united against a common enemy!"
They were all old foxes, each speaking grandly of righteousness.
Only the man with glasses looked at these big shots with a trace of helplessness and sorrow in his eyes. He was the deputy director of the Public Security Bureau. He knew many of the Federation's secrets, and he also knew Ancestral Star's current situation.
A storm was approaching, waves surging to the heavens. With even one misstep, Ancestral Star might exist only in history books.
At some point, the Federation had changed. So-called protection had become a blockade.
For the Federation, for humanity—but who had considered Ancestral Star's feelings? Were the people of Ancestral Star not human too?
"Forget it. These aren't matters a mere deputy director like me has the right to concern myself with. I should think about how to convince that child to cooperate instead."
"What was that child's name again? Oh. Right."
"Su Tu!"
Su Tu's gaze was sharp, and his hands in his pockets slowly clenched.
He had only just learned Prajna Seven Kills. He had not expected to put it into actual combat so soon.
That was what he thought.
Not long after leaving the Martial Arts Academy, he sensed a figure running somewhere nearby. That had already drawn Su Tu's attention, but the figure disappeared for a while.
Su Tu did not pay it much mind. Yet just now, when he called his parents, he keenly sensed that the figure had appeared again.
Following him, stalking him, a shadowy alley, no one around, the setting sun gradually sinking.
Put those words together, and if no fighting broke out, it would be a waste of the atmosphere and the setting.
Then, a figure emerged from the alley.
The moment Su Tu saw that figure, his eyes trembled slightly. He knew this person.
"Hehe, Brother Su Tu, we meet again." The newcomer had very fair skin and a well-proportioned build, but his face was round and plump. His eyes narrowed when he smiled, and he seemed to be smiling even before he spoke.
"Wang Sheng?"
This was none other than Wang Sheng, the chubby boy who had chatted with Su Tu at the entrance of the Martial Arts Academy when Su Tu first arrived.
"Wang Sheng, why are you following me?" Su Tu did not lower his guard merely because he knew the other person.
Wang Sheng spread his hands and said with a cheerful smile, "Brother Su Tu, no need to be nervous. I mean no harm. I just want to tell you that there is a bit of a misunderstanding between us."
"A misunderstanding?" Su Tu was puzzled. He and Wang Sheng had only exchanged a few words at the Martial Arts Academy entrance. Su Tu had learned a little about Martial Dao from him, and they had not interacted since. How could there be any misunderstanding?
"I wasn't telling you the truth before. Actually, my name isn't Wang Sheng." The chubby boy scratched his head somewhat embarrassedly.
Su Tu said nothing. He knew the other party could not have come looking for him over such a reason alone.
Sure enough, the chubby boy's expression shifted slightly, and his voice changed from its original honest simplicity to something warm and refined.
"My name is... Kong Qiu. Kong Qiu of the Kong Family."
