History

Rise into the Star River

Humanity began interstellar colonization roughly three thousand years before the present. During this period, the First Martial God discovered martial dao; its spread gave humanity a means to raise individual life levels beyond technological and biochemical methods alone 14.

The early Federation was driven from system to system and was at one point enslaved or used as blood food by stronger races. At humanity's critical moment, nine figures later remembered as the Martial Gods appeared, defeated alien powers in battles spanning the universe and subspace, and allowed the Federation to establish itself among the stars 22.

After their disappearance, the Martial Gods left martial inheritances behind. Ten humans whom a Martial God had personally instructed became the Martial Dao Ten Heavens, continuing to protect humanity when it faced existential threats 118.

Expansion and martial civilization

The Federation grew from a vulnerable interstellar civilization into a pivotal force in the Star River. It encompasses fifteen New Stars and relies on three principal development paths:

• Martial dao cultivation
• Gene Warriors
• Mechanical Modification 11 14

The Federation's mainstream martial foundation is the Original Skill aperture-opening method, said to have been transmitted by the Martial God after receiving the First Emperor's approval 35.

Ancestor Star Policy

Blockade and suppression

For years, the Federation sealed the Ancestor Star (Blue Star/Earth), restricting martial artists and preventing public knowledge of cultivation from spreading. It periodically blockaded and investigated the planet to preserve that secrecy 14.

The blockade was connected to the Federation's discovery of the Arrayed Immortals ruins and its suppression of the Ancestor Star's martial-dao fortune 32. Su Tu later witnessed three taboos attributed to the Federation's “protection” of the planet:

• A copper plate that distorts cognition.
• An ancient book that seals.
• A broken sword hilt that curbs fate. 74

The scale of these measures led critics to question whether the Ancestor Star was being protected, exploited, or both. Lin Feiyang argued that New Star residents often regarded its inhabitants as “natives,” while Bai Shuang considered its sacrifice unavoidable given the wider Federation's scale and the secrets it might contain 32.

Martial propagation

The Federation abruptly lifted the blockade and began Martial Propagation, incorporating martial arts into examinations and planning to select ten candidates per city as the Ancestor Star's first official cohort of martial artists 8.

Its martial examination program became a means of identifying and cultivating talent, including access to training camps, resources, techniques, and corporate sponsorship 113. Registered martial artists can receive state benefits according to cultivation:

Supreme authority

The Federation's highest political authority operates through the Supreme Council, whose three Supremes hold decisive authority over major Federation matters 181.

• Strategist Lord — Advocates diplomacy, managed cooperation, and long-term planning for humanity's interests 219.
• War Lord — Favors a hardline defense of the Ancestor Star and openly opposes allowing foreign races into its martial examination 219.
• Bronze Throne figure — Supported the Strategist Lord's policy of admitting selected foreign representatives rather than attempting to bar all outsiders 219.

The Council of Elders and the Sages also retain immense institutional influence. The Sages formulated the Federation-wide systems and laws still in force and are revered on some worlds as ancestral deities 328.

Military and security

The Federation maintains powerful military forces across its territory. Its Black Crows are a special-operations unit belonging to the Military Lord, known among foreign races as the Harbingers of Death for repeatedly assassinating enemy commanders and leaders 245.

The Federation also conducts severe internal purges when threats are uncovered. A historic Heart Face Beast infiltration nearly paralyzed the government through undetectable parasitism and manipulated orders; the supreme authority, Elder Council, and ancient sages eventually coordinated the race's extermination 269.

Relations with Other Civilizations

Seven Great Alliances

The Seven Great Alliances are a coalition of seven super civilizations that cooperated with the Federation for roughly a thousand years. Their relationship is formally allied but marked by persistent suspicion, covert maneuvering, and fear of humanity's rapidly emerging Age of Pride generation 219 234.

When the Dou Shuai Palace Star Chart drew attention to the Ancestor Star, the Federation agreed to allow seven foreign representatives into the martial examination in exchange for a large starfield. The Strategist Lord viewed the arrangement as a controlled opening; the War Lord condemned it as trading humanity's place of origin for political calculation 219.

After the Great Peace Agreement collapsed amid the campaign to “exterminate the Void Spirits,” the Federation and the Seven Great Alliances renewed their alliance in anticipation of larger conflict 424.

The Star River crisis

The Federation recognized that the Void Spirit purge was being used by powerful civilizations as justification for conquest, enslavement, and mass killing. It viewed the sudden policy shift as a sign that ultimate civilizations were exposing their ambitions 424.

During a later Supreme-level meeting, the Strategist presented data showing a 12% increase in Star River mortality after the Great Peace Agreement's collapse. Boundary Light then halted time, killed the Supremes present, and absorbed their power as part of a plan to destroy the Star River and prolong reincarnation 452.
