North Sea Security Administration.
Special Operations Division.
Li Hu sat at his desk with an unhappy expression.
He had finally become his junior brother's investor and thoroughly shocked their master. He had planned to take his junior brother out for a lavish celebration after training ended, only to be summoned back to the Public Security Bureau by a phone call.
The so-called Special Operations Division was a department established to deal with beasts that had infiltrated.
Its main members were people like Li Hu. They had followed their teachers to the Ancestral Star; their teachers recruited students and became tainted by fortune, while they joined the department to gain fortune as well as polish their résumés.
"What's so urgent that I had to come here right now?"
Li Hu looked displeased. With his temperament, he hated being in a department like this. Though it could improve his résumé, every day was either a meeting or another meeting, and he could not simply skip them. Who knew whether they had called him in for a meeting this time or because a beast had appeared?
"Captain Li, you need to personally review this report. It contains Ms. Zhang's statement, as well as the results of our follow-up investigation." A staff member handed him a black folder.
At those words, Li Hu's expression immediately turned grave.
It was no secret that beasts had infiltrated the Ancestral Star.
However, most of their blood and vitality had been worn away. Their strength, realms, and even their life levels had suffered severe damage. Retaining even one percent of their original power counted as good luck.
Thus, these beasts mostly hid in the shadows, secretly trying to recover their strength through human fortune.
Strange incidents were now occurring frequently across the Ancestral Star because of these beasts. Yet their blood and vitality were currently too weak, and they hid too deeply. Even with Li Hu hunting them at full force, he had achieved little.
Not to mention that there were idiots in the team who acted as though they were above everyone else, keeping their efficiency from ever improving.
And the Xie Race beast from yesterday was the first beast in a long time to dare openly expose its aura.
Li Hu felt that this matter was surely far-reaching and took it very seriously. Moreover, the person involved was his junior brother's friend—perhaps even that kind of friend—so he had to pay even closer attention.
He opened the file, and his brow immediately furrowed. The further he read, the deeper the crease became, until his brows had formed a sharp ravine.
Bang!
He slammed the file onto the desk. The usual simple honesty he showed at the martial arts school was gone. His face was solemn, as though covered by a cold iron mask.
"Has the information in there been verified?"
"It has. It's confirmed to be accurate," the staff member replied.
"Good, very good! Very good indeed!! The only ones capable of such fucked-up nonsense are those scum from the Three Deviant Sect, right?"
"I really don't understand what the Federation is thinking. Why haven't they ordered the destruction of a trash sect like this?
"And now they've set their sights on the Ancestral Star. Most importantly, these ungrateful bastards have actually cooperated with beasts. Have they even forgotten the warnings left behind by their ancestors?!"
Li Hu's voice was cold and violent, enough to make one shudder.
It was no wonder Li Hu had lost his composure. The contents of that file were truly difficult for him to accept.
According to the testimony Zhang Meng provided, before that Xie Race beast went looking for her, the owner of her company had repeatedly asked Zhang Meng to accompany it. Before her, three other women had already gone.
They were the three women later parasitized by the Xie Race beast. But beasts would not cooperate with ordinary people, so something must have happened in between.
Following that lead, the Public Security Bureau went to arrest the owner. Yet in the end, they found only the owner's skin in his office!
Yes, skin. In the office, they found an entire sheet of skin that had been completely peeled away. The floor was covered in bloodstains, and according to the forensic report, judging from how the blood was distributed—
It was highly likely that the owner had peeled off his own skin alive.
There was a church in the galaxy that called itself the Three Gods Sect, though most people called it the Three Deviant Sect. They worshiped three evil gods, with the doctrine that one should suffer boundless pain in life and serve at the gods' sides after death.
They believed that people ought to endure all kinds of suffering while alive, so that after death, they could remain beside the three gods. Therefore, their members regarded every kind of torture as divine grace.
If they merely bestowed this grace upon themselves, they would at most be a group of self-harming lunatics, and that would be nothing. But these madmen believed that the suffering of the world had been obscured by falsehood.
They even believed that all of human civilization had fallen into nothingness, and that only the three gods could save everything. They wanted to spread pain throughout human civilization.
No one cared if they loved torturing themselves, but they wanted to make everyone else suffer too, all while calling it "the gods' gift."
Who could stand that?
The reason Li Hu believed all of this was the Three Deviant Sect's handiwork was because the owner who had skinned himself had, according to what he knew, used an initiation ritual in the Three Deviant Sect called Skin Shedding Offering.
Only those who had rendered service to the sect were qualified to enter through this ritual. Believers had to personally peel off every inch of their own skin while chanting the gods' names and praising their bestowed grace.
Li Hu could almost certainly conclude that the owner had been brainwashed by the Three Deviant Sect and joined them.
Combined with the owner's act of finding women for the Xie Race beast, it was not difficult to determine that the Three Deviant Sect had cooperated with these beasts.
"What the hell are these lunatics trying to do?!"
The Three Deviant Sect was different from those beasts. They were human, so they understood humans better. Beasts entering the Ancestral Star could only rely on their own special traits to hunt humans and seize fortune to restore their cultivation.
After their blood and vitality realms had been worn away, a large number of beasts had physical abilities not much stronger than humans. Only their innate special abilities were worth mentioning.
Those traits might be difficult to use, but once they took effect, they could restore the beast's strength in the shortest possible time.
A beast alone might have difficulty bringing such a trait into play, but with the Three Deviant Sect's help, the situation would become very difficult to control.
For example, there was a beast called a Nightmare. Its Main Body was extremely weak, but it could continuously increase its Heart and Mind Height by devouring negative emotions such as fear and despair. The Ancestral Star's Heart and Mind Height was generally very low right now. If the Three Deviant Sect helped it spread fear...
"Immediately investigate whether any bizarre videos or horror legends are being spread on a large scale online. In short, the moment any information related to this appears, lock it down immediately!"
Li Hu rapidly issued his orders.
Knock, knock, knock!
An eerie knocking sounded continuously, as though a pair of numb, icy eyes were watching the room from outside the door.
Su Tu was not sure what would happen if he let the other party keep knocking. Beasts all possessed unusual traits, and allowing it to continue might trigger some terrifying killing move.
He quickly walked to the front door and looked through the peephole. There was no one outside.
The knocking continued at that strange rhythm.
Su Tu suppressed his aura, every muscle in his body tightening. One hand gripped the doorknob. Whatever monster it was, he would throw a punch first and talk later!
He violently flung open the door and sent out a surging punch.
Then, a pair of huge, wicked things filled his view.
"Ah!!" Zhang Meng let out a scream.
Though Su Tu quickly withdrew his force, he could not change the direction. In the end, his punch landed lightly on an indescribable spot.
It even bounced a little.
Mm, it really was quite springy.
"Sister Zhang... I swear I didn't do it on purpose. Do you believe me?" Su Tu instantly felt incomparably awkward.
"You, you, you!"
A flush spread across Zhang Meng's cheeks. Though she always teased Su Tu, it had only ever been verbal. She had never even dated a boyfriend growing up, much less been touched there. She immediately lost any desire to tease Su Tu and ran back into the room.
"My place hasn't been livable lately, so I'm staying here with you for a few days." Zhang Meng's embarrassed and annoyed voice came from inside the room.
Su Tu awkwardly rubbed his nose. This had gotten...
He looked at his hands, then toward the door. There was not a single figure in the empty corridor outside. He then shut the door.
In a dark, deserted place, a twisted figure held a thin, elongated monster in its hand. Its voice was savage and terrifying.
"Who told you to go find him? Who gave you the right to find him? He's mine, mine!!" Beneath those crimson eyes, sludge churned.
