Background / History

Rhea prepared for Zeus's birth after understanding the prophecy foretelling Cronus's downfall. She used Hades's power and a specially prepared stone to enable her youngest child to escape Cronus's control. Zeus was born amid violent thunder, lightning, and rain, immediately revealing an exceptionally powerful meteorological authority. 98

He was raised on the isolated island of Crete, protected by the Ocean God's power. Goat Ammoni taught him wisdom and revealed his lineage before dying; Zeus inherited Ammoni's horns, which continuously produce food, and promised to honor its final wishes. 101

After leaving Crete, Zeus sought Metis to learn more about his origins. Hecate tested his ambition and offered assistance if he chose to oppose Cronus. Zeus subsequently trained through dangerous sea journeys, built ties with Ocean Goddesses, and developed into a capable Thunder God. 104 111

Zeus later entered the Abyss with Hades and Poseidon, found the imprisoned Cyclopes and Hundred-Armed Giants, and negotiated for the forging of Divine Artifacts in exchange for their liberation. He then joined the campaign against Cronus; within roughly twenty years, he had risen from a vulnerable infant to the leading figure before Mount Othrys. 115 119
