Afternoon.
Wang Xian woke to the faint sound of commotion.
Ha—
After yawning and stretching, Wang Xian briefly tidied up the bedding, splashed some water on his face, and headed into the living room.
But the moment he entered the living room, Wang Xian was dumbfounded.
"What are you doing?"
Looking at the Taoist robes with yin-yang bagua patterns, cassocks, wooden fish, peachwood swords, talismans, crosses, and other items that had appeared in the living room, Wang Xian was utterly speechless.
Su Jin held a peachwood sword in her left hand and a demon-subduing vajra in her right. She wore an oversized Taoist robe with yin-yang bagua patterns and even had a silver cross hanging around her neck. Excitedly, she said, "We're going to scare ghosts!"
"You're not afraid anymore?"
"Hmph!"
Su Jin snorted, planted both hands on her hips, and said proudly, "After killing them all night, I'm not afraid anymore. And with all this stuff, I'm even less afraid! Tonight, I'm going to let those ghosts know who's boss! Oh, hahahahaha..."
By the end, Su Jin had thrown back her head and burst into laughter, as though she could already see the ghosts being scared silly by her.
"Who taught you to laugh like that? What an awful laugh!"
Wang Xian walked over to Su Jin and flicked her forehead.
Su Jin immediately glared at Wang Xian.
"I understand the peachwood sword, the demon-subduing vajra, and the Taoist robe, but what's with the cross? Isn't that something Westerners use against vampires?" Wang Xian asked, tugging at the cross around Su Jin's neck.
"Mind your own business! I like it!"
After thinking about it, Su Jin realized Wang Xian did have a point. Eastern ghosts and Western vampires were entirely different creatures, but she would never admit that she had gotten such basic common knowledge wrong.
Wang Xian smiled and said nothing more.
In the eyes of Dragon Country People, ghosts naturally had to fear such things. It was ingrained thinking formed over hundreds or even thousands of years.
However, Dragon Country People were destined to be disappointed this time.
The ghosts emerging from the Ghost Gate were not afraid of such items at all.
Fundamentally, those ghosts were not the ghosts Dragon Country People imagined. They were merely wild monsters—wild monsters with a few simple instincts.
With such simple awareness, they could barely comprehend an emotion like fear.
Therefore, trying to frighten ghosts was almost certain to fail. In fact, it was completely impossible.
This so-called event was really just meant to add a little fun to the lives of Dragon Country People.
Of course, this was not Wang Xian's own understanding. It was a conclusion proposed by those "experts" in his previous life.
It was not only Su Jin who was excitedly fiddling with all sorts of ghost-scaring tools. Nangong Wu, Feng Luoli, and Yue Rushuang had joined in as well, picking up this item and then that one, discussing with Su Jin whether they could really frighten ghosts.
Wang Xian did not dampen their spirits. It was good to let them have some fun.
"Yao Yao, what are you doing?" Wang Xian asked curiously as he watched Cheng Yao fiddling with her phone.
"Uncle, I'm setting up a livestream. Tonight, we're going to livestream ourselves scaring ghosts. I'm going to let everyone in Dragon Country see how I scare ghosts!"
After replying to Wang Xian, Cheng Yao continued fiddling with her phone.
Wang Xian was stunned.
Livestreaming ghost-scaring?
Well then!
This girl's train of thought really was unusual.
Turning his head, he glanced at Cheng Yao's phone screen and discovered that she was already livestreaming. Moreover, there were an astonishing number of viewers in the room, already exceeding one hundred thousand.
"Why are there so many people in your livestream?"
Wang Xian was somewhat puzzled.
"I was born beautiful and peerlessly gorgeous. A few hundred thousand viewers are nothing," Cheng Yao said smugly.
"Heh."
Wang Xian gave Cheng Yao a disdainful look.
Although this girl had a good foundation, if not for the Flower God Class Change, she would still be a flat-chested little girl who had not fully grown up.
"Uncle, what do you mean by that?"
Wang Xian's look instantly made Cheng Yao bristle.
Was she wrong?
Even her cousin Nangong Wu, known as the number one beauty of the Imperial Capital, was not as pretty as she was now!
"Brother-in-law, don't listen to her nonsense. Those hundreds of thousands of viewers were drawn in after she spent hundreds of thousands of Dragon Coins tipping herself. She's absolutely shameless!" Su Jin exposed Cheng Yao's lie.
"Su Jin, I'm going to fight you!"
With her lie exposed, Cheng Yao immediately flew into a rage from embarrassment. She tossed her phone aside and pounced at Su Jin.
Night fell, and once again, it was midnight.
This time, they did not head straight to the fields to level up. Instead, they walked together through the village alleys.
They were going to scare ghosts.
Su Jin and Cheng Yao were decked out in gear as they walked at the very front of the group, excitement written all over their faces as they looked around in every direction.
Nangong Wu, Feng Luoli, and Yue Rushuang only held peachwood swords and talismans. They truly could not bring themselves to dress like Su Jin and Cheng Yao—wearing cassocks and Taoist robes with yin-yang bagua patterns, holding peachwood swords in their left hands and demon-subduing vajras in their right.
It was far too embarrassing!
Wang Xian walked at the back, holding the phone and filming Cheng Yao and Su Jin.
He had become the cameraman.
As for his father and mother, they had not come along. They had only told Wang Xian to call them when it was time to level up.
There were a tremendous number of people in Cheng Yao's livestream room, already exceeding one million. Wang Xian had no idea whether that number was real or fake.
The dense flood of comments made Wang Xian dizzy, but these people were not focused on Cheng Yao and Su Jin's ghost-scaring plan at all. Instead, they were all discussing how beautiful Cheng Yao was.
And while they were at it, they expressed deep envy, jealousy, and resentment toward Wang Xian, the cameraman who occasionally appeared on-screen.
"Shh—"
Wang Xian stopped walking and made a silencing gesture toward Nangong Wu and the other two beside him.
The ghosts in the village were very different from the ghosts in the fields.
Most ghosts in the fields were Wandering Souls, and Wandering Souls looked like blurry, illusory human silhouettes.
The ones in the village were different. These ghosts were between levels 0 and 10, and their magic attack was extremely low. Their HP was also very low.
It was as if they existed specifically to give experience—or perhaps to scare people and be scared in turn.
Their appearances also better matched all kinds of folk legends: starving ghosts, hanged ghosts, water ghosts, long-haired ghosts, Bride Ghosts, vengeful ghosts, and so on.
In short, they were far, far more terrifying in appearance than the Wandering Souls in the fields.
At that moment, Wang Xian had signaled Nangong Wu and the other two to stay quiet because a Bride Ghost had appeared behind Su Jin and Cheng Yao.
Nangong Wu gave Wang Xian a look.
Wang Xian understood instantly.
Nangong Wu was asking whether they should warn Su Jin and Cheng Yao.
Wang Xian shook his head, signaling that they absolutely should not!
Nangong Wu glared at Wang Xian irritably, but she did not speak up to warn Su Jin and Cheng Yao.
The dense stream of comments in the livestream room also came to a halt, as if everyone was holding their breath in anticipation of what would happen next.
The people who wanted to scare ghosts had a ghost appear behind them, yet they were completely unaware of it.
Especially when one of those ghost-scaring people was an adorably airheaded girl, while the other was a stunning beauty with a bit of a chuunibyou streak.
Anticipation!
They were so looking forward to it!
