"Come to think of it, this is really strange!" Jiraiya touched the Cold Ice Array on Duke's body. When he raised his hand, his fingers were already frozen stiff. Kekkei Genkai users could withstand the damage caused by their own secret techniques, but that did not mean they were immune to it. Casters would suffer more or less from the backlash. Someone like Duke, who remained completely unscathed after being caught in a powerful ninjutsu, was simply unheard of.
Jiraiya had fought Hidden Mist before, so he was no inexperienced fool. He knew that the Yuki Clan could resist cold to some extent, but that was still within reason. The Clan of Snow, like other ninja, were flesh and blood. They felt heat and cold alike, and could even freeze to death from the cold.
Minato came to his senses as well. After he explained it, Kushina joined the crowd gawking at this oddity. The three of them surrounded Duke, chattering away as they discussed the possibility of his Ice Magic Immunity. Minato was the most invested in the matter. He had tried adding wind nature transformation to the Rasengan, but unfortunately, it hurt himself before it could hurt anyone else. The Wind Release Rasengan inflicted too much damage on its user, making it more trouble than it was worth.
Duke gave a Hehe. I'm a man with a Golden Finger. How could those seductive little bitches possibly compare to me?
To avoid seeming too abnormal, Duke had no choice but to spout nonsense. "No one in this world is immune to cold. I'm just more resistant to freezing than most. Honestly, if my physique weren't a little special, the Ice Release Rasengan would probably destroy me along with the enemy."
"My physique... if my body could..." After hearing that, Minato fell into a daze. Then his eyes suddenly widened as he looked at Jiraiya. "Jiraiya-sensei, if I were in Sage Mode, could the damage from the Rasengan's nature transformation be reduced to a bearable level?"
"Borrowing natural energy can indeed greatly increase the body's vitality. Its defenses, resistance, and recovery ability all rise to unbelievable heights." Jiraiya suddenly understood and said joyfully, "With your talent, Minato, it's worth a try."
"That's great! In that case, I'll work hard to cultivate Sage Mode too, and strive to develop my own Rasengan nature transformation as soon as possible." Minato was thrilled. He rubbed Duke's head. "I really have you to thank for this."
Duke's eye twitched as sweat the size of beans rolled down his face. He had changed history without even realizing it. I wonder what Obito will do when he controls the Nine-Tails to attack Konoha in the future and faces an upgraded Rasengan? He probably won't die... maybe!
"Hey, why hadn't Jiraiya-sensei thought of that sooner? He made Minato waste so much time. As expected, Sensei spends all day thinking about unreliable nonsense." Kushina exposed the truth in one sentence, leaving Jiraiya thoroughly embarrassed.
"Ha ha!" Jiraiya forced out two laughs. It was not entirely his fault. His Sage Mode was incomplete and could not serve as a reference.
"Speaking of Sage Mode, Duke, are you interested?" Minato asked Duke, intending to teach him sage techniques. Setting aside his age, Duke's talent and temperament made Minato feel inferior.
"I already have a summon beast, so I don't have a chance to learn the sage techniques of Mount Myōboku." Duke politely declined. As one of the Three Great Sage Regions, Shikkotsu Forest also possessed Sage Mode. There was no need to seek something far away when it was close at hand.
"You actually know about Mount Myōboku and sage techniques?" Jiraiya asked curiously.
Duke did not explain. He bit his finger, formed hand seals, and used the Summoning Jutsu to summon a Katsuyu more than a person tall. When his Medical Ninjutsu had reached a certain level of mastery, Slug Sister had acknowledged him and allowed him to become a Contractor of Shikkotsu Forest.
"It's little Duke!" Katsuyu greeted him, then greeted Jiraiya as well when she saw him.
"Hello, Slug Sister!" Duke hurriedly replied.
"Tsunade's summon beast, Katsuyu!?" Jiraiya's expression changed dramatically. He turned to Duke. "Don't tell me you're Tsunade's disciple?"
Duke's mature and steadfast mind, along with his exceptional talent, had made Jiraiya consider taking him as a disciple. But if he was Tsunade's disciple, Jiraiya could only give up on the idea.
"I've never met Lady Tsunade. Aunt Natsuki taught me the Summoning Jutsu," Duke explained.
"That is true. Tsunade has never met this child." Katsuyu replied in the voice of an intellectual older sister. "Little Duke is extremely talented in Medical Ninjutsu. Even I cannot help but admire him, so I formed a contract with him."
"I see. No wonder he knows about Mount Myōboku and sage techniques." Jiraiya nodded, secretly astonished. At such a young age, Duke had earned Katsuyu's recognition. His talent in Medical Ninjutsu had to be outstanding among his peers. Perhaps he would become another Tsunade in the future.
"I thought he was bragging when he said he was proficient in Medical Ninjutsu. I didn't expect it to be true." The more Kushina looked at this clansman, the more pleased she became. Everything about him seemed agreeable to her.
"Since Tsunade doesn't know about it, then there's no problem. Duke, are you willing to become my disciple?" Jiraiya put away his usual playful manner, sat upright, and spoke seriously.
"So suddenly..." Duke dismissed Katsuyu and was momentarily at a loss.
"Your talent is extremely high, but I value your perseverance even more. To achieve so much at such a young age, you must have put in far more effort than your peers. It would be my honor to have a disciple like you." Jiraiya spoke with certainty. The words of the Great Toad Sage made him unwilling to give up any possibility. Aside from his own mission, Jiraiya himself was a ninja who loved peace. He hoped that through his efforts, more outstanding members of the next generation could be guided onto the right path.
"I'm very willing, Pervert... Jiraiya-sensei." Duke immediately agreed. Jiraiya was the best teacher in Naruto. Only an idiot would refuse. Jiraiya's teaching ability was unrivaled in Naruto, worthy of being called the strongest. Every disciple he had taught became one of the Shinobi World's top figures, each a renowned powerhouse. The weakest were still Kage-level, while the strongest could crush the Shinobi World one-handed without any pressure.
"Ha ha ha!" Having gained a new disciple, Jiraiya was overjoyed and could not stop himself from laughing heartily.
"Then I have a junior brother too." Minato was also very happy. After spending only one day together, Duke had already earned his approval.
"Having Jiraiya-sensei teach him would be worse than having Minato teach him. Jiraiya-sensei embodies the Four Ninja Prohibitions. Duke is still young and might learn bad habits." Kushina was the only one present who disagreed. Jiraiya's lecherous nature made her deeply worried.
"Four Ninja Prohibitions? What's that?" Jiraiya asked in surprise. Though he did not understand what it meant, it did not sound like a compliment.
"Wine, lust, and money are the Three Prohibitions of Ninja. Add Jiraiya-sensei himself, and that makes four prohibitions." Kushina counted on her fingers.
Jiraiya clutched his heart and staggered back several steps. Minato hurriedly tugged at Kushina. Though she was unhappy, she could only let it go.
"Right, Junior Brother Duke." Minato tried to change the subject so Jiraiya would not be further embarrassed. Considerately, he said, "Ice Release Rasengan is too ordinary a name. It doesn't reflect the destructive power of this move. What do you think of naming it Ice Wheel Crystal Freezing Arrow Style One?" Minato kindly suggested what he considered a very cool name for the technique.
"..." Jiraiya. This was probably Minato's only weakness.
"..." Kushina. Her boyfriend had no talent for naming things, and she had been troubled by it for a long time.
"..." Duke. It was so embarrassingly childish that he could barely bring himself to say it aloud.
"What's wrong? Don't you think this name fits perfectly?" The three people's silence left Minato confused. It was such a flashy name. What was wrong with it?
"Thank you, Senior Brother Minato, but I think Ice Release Rasengan is quite good. A name that cool should be saved for Senior Brother Minato's Rasengan." Duke laughed awkwardly, imagining himself shouting "Ice Release: Ice Wheel Crystal Freezing Arrow Style One" when facing an enemy. The very thought made him feel awful.
"If you don't like it, then forget it. I'll reserve the name for you. If you ever want to change it later, you can use it." Minato said generously. He had plenty of other good ideas. Naming ninjutsu was his specialty, so Duke did not need to worry about him.
Who's worrying about you? Where does that confidence even come from? Duke ranted inwardly. Fortunately, Naruto's name had been inspired by one of Jiraiya's novels. Otherwise, what would the savior's name have become? Whirlpool Dark Flash Demon King Style Three, or Wave Wind Light Wheel Super Roar Style Four? Thank goodness it was not Whirlpool NEW Armstrong Rotating Accelerating Jet Armstrong Cannon.
For a moment, Duke imagined the legend of the Yellow Flash that would spread throughout the Shinobi World in the future.
Rock Shinobi Passerby A: I just ran into Konoha's Yellow Flash!
Rock Shinobi Bystander B: Holy shit! The legendary Yellow Flash? You're insanely lucky to have survived!
Rock Shinobi Passerby A: Yeah, I nearly pissed myself! I only escaped by playing dead!
Rock Shinobi Bystander B: You really are lucky. Lots of people played dead and still didn't make it! By the way, what ninjutsu did the Yellow Flash use?
Rock Shinobi Passerby A: The name was too long and complicated. I couldn't remember it!
Rock Shinobi Bystander B: What, are you joking? How could you possibly not remember it?
Rock Shinobi Passerby A: I really couldn't remember it. It was too long!
"Right, there's one more thing!"
After everyone rested for a while, Jiraiya treated them to grilled meat. Before they parted ways, Minato stopped Duke.
"What is it, Senior Brother Minato?"
"In a little over a month, it'll be the Chunin Exam. Senior Zixiao has already registered you all. If you run into Obito and the others, go easy on them!" In Minato's eyes, Duke's strength was comparable to a Konoha Jonin, firmly at the level of a special Jonin. His only weakness was experience. A ninja like that could not possibly have an opponent among his peers. Not even Kakashi could. Participating in the Chunin Exam would be like an adult joining a children's game and ruining its fairness. The image was too beautiful for Minato to bear looking at.
"The Chunin Exam?" Duke tilted his head in confusion. When was I registered? How come I don't know about it?
"What, Senior Zixiao didn't tell you?" Minato asked strangely.
"I haven't heard a thing. I didn't even know the Chunin Exam was coming up."
"Maybe because you've been at Konoha Hospital these past few days, Senior Zixiao hasn't had a chance to tell you yet." Minato was considerate enough not to speak badly about someone behind their back.
"No, I think he simply forgot." Duke curled his lip. Given Zixiao's personality, doing something like that was perfectly normal.
"Ha ha, how could there possibly be someone like that?"
"No, there really are people like that in this world! The bigger the bird, the more varieties there are in the forest. Minato, you're still too young. You'll understand in a few years."
