Background

Obito attended Konoha’s Ninja Academy alongside Duke, Rin, Kakashi, Asuma, and Might Guy. He was a chronic latecomer who regularly claimed he had delayed himself by helping elderly people, yet his kindness in doing so appeared genuine. His poor theory-test performance lowered his overall standing, while his practical ability—especially Uchiha-style shuriken throwing—was considerably better when he did not become overconfident. 16 17

He openly admired Rin and competed with Kakashi, particularly after Kakashi graduated early. Obito was assigned to Minato Namikaze’s team with both of them, fulfilling his wish to become Rin’s teammate. 8 19

During the Chunin Exam, Obito’s tardiness nearly caused his team’s disqualification. He was later defeated quickly by Might Guy in the individual round, but remained boastful and humorous despite the loss. 34 35

Appearance

After his apparent death, Obito generally conceals himself behind a spiral mask and cloak. When unmasked, one half of his face is scarred and disfigured. 216 325

  • Carries the Uchiha fan while operating as a masked adversary. 325
  • Has mismatched Mangekyo Sharingan patterns after receiving Madara’s left eye. 196 216
  • His body bears Hashirama-cell augmentation, including rapid regeneration and the ability to manifest wooden branches and tendrils. 325 328

Personality

Before Madara’s intervention, Obito is cheerful, dense, impulsive, and easily provoked, but fundamentally compassionate. He habitually helps elderly people, treasures his comrades, and dreams of becoming Hokage. Minato considers him a kind shinobi despite his constant lateness. 16 26 216

His devotion to Rin is his defining vulnerability. Madara selected him precisely because his capacity for love and attachment could be redirected into equivalent hatred after a fall. 189

After his memories are altered, Obito suppresses his former identity and insists that he is Uchiha Madara. Believing Rin died because of Konoha, he becomes hostile toward Minato, Kakashi, Duke, and the village itself, pursuing a false world in which Rin can exist. 207 216 325

Even while acting as an antagonist, traces of his former self remain. Rin’s photographs destabilize his implanted memories, and after his liberation he enthusiastically asks Hashirama and Tobirama for autographs. 325 516

Abilities & Skills

Sharingan and Mangekyo Sharingan

Obito’s Uchiha dōjutsu evolves rapidly under Madara’s manipulation. His ocular power lets him perceive chakra flows, identify Shadow Clones, use genjutsu, and support his space-time techniques. 196 328

  • His right eye develops from Two Tomoe to Mangekyo Sharingan. 196
  • Madara’s transplanted left Mangekyo alters his memories and reinforces the false belief that Rin is dead. 196 325
  • Later possesses Shisui’s Mangekyo Sharingan, though its control weakens as Obito’s eye power grows. 511 512
  • His false identity collapses whenever his emotional reactions or personal knowledge expose him as Obito. 215 325

Kamui

Kamui gives Obito access to a personal dimension and allows him to shift parts of his body between tangible and intangible states. It is the foundation of his ability to infiltrate barriers, evade attacks, and escape battles. 207 513

  • Phases through physical attacks with Hollowfication. 326 513
  • Teleports himself or opponents to the Kamui Dimension. 513
  • Uses spatial distortions offensively and defensively in combat. 512 513
  • Continuous intangibility has a time limit, and self-teleportation takes longer than phasing; sustained attacks can exploit these weaknesses. 513
  • Duke’s possession of Obito’s other Mangekyo creates a connection that lets Duke track Obito’s transitions and movements. 513

Hashirama-Cell Augmentation

Obito’s rebuilt body incorporates Hashirama’s cells, greatly improving his stamina, recovery, and compatibility with Mangekyo techniques. 183 196

  • Regenerates limbs and cold damage within seconds. 325 328
  • Produces wooden spikes, branches, and tendrils during emotional instability. 325
  • Reduces the physical consequences normally associated with repeated Mangekyo use. 183 325
  • Does not make him immune to sustained high-level taijutsu or Duke’s Ice Release suppression. 513 514

Fire Release

Obito retains standard Uchiha Fire Release techniques.

  • Uses Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique against Duke in the Hidden Mist Village. 325
  • Boasts that his Fire Release would have defeated Might Guy during the Chunin Exam. 35

Genjutsu and Political Manipulation

While posing as Madara, Obito uses deception and ocular power to build influence from the shadows. 207 325

  • Controls the Fourth Mizukage through genjutsu to destabilize the Hidden Mist Village. 325
  • Uses the “Madara” identity to intimidate Nagato and advance the Eye of the Moon plan. 207
  • Summons Madara with Impure World Reincarnation, then keeps the reanimated Madara dormant in an attempt to control him. 516

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Spiral mask used to conceal his identity. 207 216
  • Uchiha fan carried during his Hidden Mist operation. 325
  • Scythe used while fighting Duke. 326 513
  • Black Receiver used in an attempted surprise attack on Duke. 328

Relationships

  • Mitarashi Duke — Academy friend turned persistent adversary. Duke recognizes him through every disguise, exposes his identity, removes Madara’s eye, and ultimately helps free him from external control. 16 207 328 515
  • Nohara Rin — Teammate and the person Obito loves most. Madara’s fabricated memory of her death drives his hatred; photographs of the living Rin nearly break the manipulation. 19 196 325
  • Hatake Kakashi — Teammate and rival. Obito gives Kakashi his Sharingan during his apparent death, then later believes Duke’s false claim that Kakashi won Rin’s affection. 189 325
  • Namikaze Minato — His Jonin instructor. Obito blames Minato for Rin’s supposed death, while Minato seeks to save his former student rather than abandon him. 19 216
  • Uchiha Madara — Rescuer and manipulator. Madara rebuilds Obito, implants a Mangekyo Sharingan, rewrites his memories, and intends for him to act as his replacement until Madara’s revival. 189 196
  • Black Zetsu — Enforcer of Madara’s plan. It possesses Obito after Madara’s eye is removed, erases Duke’s spatial marker, and escapes with him. 328
  • Pain / Nagato — Former Akatsuki partner. Pain becomes suspicious after Duke reveals that “Madara” is actually Obito, severely damaging their cooperation. 215
  • Uchiha Itachi and Uchiha Sasuke — Obito attempts to manipulate Sasuke using the Uchiha massacre, while Itachi attempts to stop him with Kotoamatsukami. 512

Hidden Mist Operation

Obito infiltrates the Hidden Mist as a disguised Anbu and is exposed by Duke while controlling the Fourth Mizukage. Duke uses Rin’s photographs and a fabricated story about Kakashi to trigger Obito’s buried memories, but Madara’s eye forcibly reinforces the false narrative. 325
