Ch. 61Black Robed Human Mage

Arthas and Tyrel’s group discovered that a plague had turned a village’s Humans into Undead and traced its spread to contaminated grain. They destroyed the plague-infected supplies and defeated the Undead and Abominations, but the Human Necromancer escaped, leaving Tyrel suspicious of Jaina’s claim that she did not know him.

  • Arthas and Tyrel’s group fought through the village, joined forces with Dagar and his Dwarves, and learned the Dwarves had eaten the same grain as the Humans but survived.
  • At the barn, the group found black-robed Humans spreading plague over grain, and a Necromancer raised nearby corpses as Undead before trying to escape.
  • Tyrel pursued the Necromancer and cut through his Ram-headed Staff, but the Mage blocked him with an ice wall and fled after several Blinks.
  • More than a dozen stitched Abominations charged from the barn, and Tyrel and Arthas fought them side by side until the group killed all the Undead and monsters.
  • The High Elf Priests purified the plague while Dagar’s Dwarves destroyed the barn and burned the contaminated grain.
  • Jaina identified the black-robed Mage as a Human Necromancer, but Tyrel suspected she knew him after recognizing his Archmage-level skill and noticing her unusual reaction.

Ch. 62Andorhal

Arthas and Tyrel followed the Cult of the Damned to Andorhal, where Kel'Thuzad admitted spreading the plague and pointed them toward Mal'Ganis in Stratholme. After Kel'Thuzad unleashed an overwhelming undead force, the princes and their allies formed a defensive line and prepared to fight.

  • Captain Farik reported that the Cult of the Damned had spread the plague and based itself in Andorhal, so Arthas and Tyrel led their forces there.
  • Arthas and Tyrel's army fought through the cultists and plague-stricken undead to enter Andorhal, where Kel'Thuzad introduced himself and warned them to leave.
  • Kel'Thuzad confessed to spreading the plague but claimed to serve Mal'Ganis, then told Arthas to seek the Doomguard in Stratholme.
  • Kel'Thuzad sent thousands of undead against the outnumbered army and vanished, prompting Arthas and Farik to organize a defensive formation.
  • Liadrin and the priests shielded and strengthened the warriors, Tyrel and Arthas blessed the defenders, and Jaina summoned Water Elementals and unleashed a Blizzard.

Ch. 63Kel'Thuzad's Death

Arthas and Tyrel’s forces fought through the Scourge in Andorhal, where Arthas recognized a child named Timmy transformed into a Ghoul and vowed to kill Kel'Thuzad. Tyrel caught up to find Kel'Thuzad already dead and feared Arthas and Jaina had walked into a trap.

  • Arthas and Tyrel’s forces defeated waves of undead, while Tyrel studied the Scourge’s combat strength.
  • Tyrel saved a High Elf priest from an Abomination’s hook and helped destroy the creature.
  • Arthas found Timmy trapped in an iron cage, recognized him as a child he had once promised to save, and erupted in fury.
  • Captain Farik explained Timmy’s past to Tyrel as Arthas charged through Andorhal searching for Kel'Thuzad.
  • Tyrel caught up with Arthas and Jaina and found Kel'Thuzad dead, leaving him suspicious that they had fallen into a trap.

Ch. 64The Night at Hearthglen

Tyrel and the others reached Hearthglen, where Taelan Fordring welcomed them and Tyrel reflected on the secrets surrounding Taelan’s father. After a night of interrupted sleep, Valeera admitted to Countess Liadrin that she liked Tyrel, while Liadrin confessed she was unsure whether she liked anyone.

  • Tyrel, Arthas, and Jaina arrived in Hearthglen, and Taelan Fordring arranged rooms for them and their companions.
  • Tyrel praised Taelan’s growth but kept silent about Tirion Fordring being alive in Deatholme.
  • Tyrel returned to his old room and fell asleep, only to be woken by the sounds of Arthas and Jaina in the next room.
  • Valeera and Countess Liadrin were also awakened, and Liadrin asked Valeera whether she liked Tyrel.
  • Valeera admitted she liked Tyrel, then asked Liadrin whether she had someone she liked, and Liadrin said she did not know.

Ch. 65The Incurable Plague

Arthas discovered that plague-infected grain from Andorhal had turned Hearthglen residents into undead, while a Scourge army approached the town. After Tyrel and Taelan Fordring helped contain the outbreak, Arthas learned that the plague targeted humans and could not be cured, then prepared to fight alongside Tyrel.

  • Arthas awoke from a nightmare and learned from Captain Farik that an undead army was approaching Hearthglen, so he sent Jaina to seek Uther Lightbringer.
  • Arthas saw empty grain crates and realized that infected grain from Andorhal had been distributed throughout Hearthglen as residents began turning into undead.
  • Tyrel and Taelan Fordring found and burned the remaining infected grain, limiting the outbreak to twenty percent of Hearthglen's residents.
  • Captain Arthas explained that bread made from the infected grain had upset his stomach, and Countess Liadrin said the plague affected humans but not High Elves or dwarves and could not be cured with the Holy Light.
  • Tyrel reassured Arthas, and they resolved to purify the Scourge together and gather Hearthglen's forces for the coming battle.

Ch. 66Arthas's Jealousy

As the Scourge army attacked Hearthglen, Tyrel helped the defenders by blessing arrows with Holy Light and shooting down undead with remarkable accuracy. Arthas grew jealous of Tyrel’s many talents, but his attention returned to battle when a mass of flesh flew toward him.

  • Taelan Fordring ordered Hearthglen’s archers to fire on the vast Scourge army, but ordinary arrows did little to stop the undead.
  • Tyrel suggested that Priests bless arrows with Holy Light, and High Priestess Countess Liadrin led the Priests in preparing them.
  • Tyrel used the Quel'Thalas Golden Bow to kill Abominations with precise Holy Light-infused shots, earning praise from Captain Farik.
  • Arthas envied Tyrel’s archery and other abilities, and jealousy toward the High Elves took root in his heart.
  • A mass of compressed flesh was hurled from the air at Arthas, and someone shouted a warning.

Ch. 67Battle of Hearthglen

Meat Wagons breached Hearthglen’s walls, forcing Taelan Fordring and the defenders into a desperate battle against the Scourge. Tyrel and Arthas helped stabilize the defense, and Uther Lightbringer’s arrival turned the tide, leaving the Scourge forces in retreat.

  • Arthas nearly took a Meat Wagon projectile before Tyrel shielded him with Hand of Protection.
  • The Scourge’s Meat Wagons battered Hearthglen’s gate until it collapsed, and Taelan Fordring led the defenders against the undead pouring inside.
  • An older Hearthglen soldier died shielding Taelan from an Abomination, and Taelan destroyed the creature with the Holy Light.
  • Tyrel and Arthas arrived with their guards, helped push the Scourge back to the broken gate, and fought alongside Taelan’s exhausted defenders.
  • As the defenders began to falter, Uther Lightbringer arrived with the Silver Hand and Lordaeron’s regular army, destroyed the Scourge’s commanding Necromancers, and routed the undead.

Ch. 68The Moment of Choice

After Hearthglen survived the Scourge, Arthas set out for Stratholme to confront Mal'Ganis, while Tyrel warned him that the plague might be part of a conspiracy. A mysterious black-robed man showed them visions of the kingdoms falling and urged them to sail west, then asked Tyrel to make his own choice.

  • Arthas declared that he would go to Stratholme to kill Mal'Ganis, and Uther followed with the Silver Hand and Lordaeron's regular forces.
  • Tyrel told Arthas that he suspected a carefully planned conspiracy, and Arthas admitted he understood but felt responsible for pursuing the plague's source.
  • A black-robed man appeared before Arthas and Tyrel, showed them visions of the Eastern Kingdoms destroyed by a blue demon and of Kalimdor, and urged them to sail west.
  • Arthas rejected the warning and insisted that protecting Lordaeron's people was his duty.
  • The black-robed man asked Tyrel Sunstrider to choose, and Tyrel recognized the stranger's staff as Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian.

Ch. 69The Responsibility That Cannot Be Abandoned

Tyrel refused the Guardian’s warning to abandon Quel'Thalas and chose to help Arthas confront the Scourge, while Countess Liadrin returned to report the prophecy and Valeera went to summon the Dawnblade Legion. At Stratholme, Arthas discovered that the citizens had already been infected by the plague.

  • Tyrel told the black-robed Guardian that he would never abandon his kingdom, people, or brothers, and the Guardian flew away as a raven.
  • Jaina tried to persuade Arthas to believe the Guardian’s prophecy, but Arthas insisted he would not abandon his homeland and left with Tyrel.
  • Tyrel told Valeera and Countess Liadrin about the Guardian and his prophecy, then sent Liadrin to report it to the Sun King and Valeera to deploy the Dawnblade Legion.
  • Tyrel and Arthas continued to Stratholme, where Uther Lightbringer arrived with the Silver Hand and Lordaeron’s regular forces.
  • As Arthas explained the plague to Uther, he saw that Stratholme’s citizens had the same symptoms as those who had eaten plagued grain and realized they were infected.

Ch. 70Purging Stratholme

Arthas ordered Stratholme purged, dismissed Uther when he refused, and slaughtered the city’s people while Tyrel stayed by his side. After Mal'Ganis escaped and challenged them to meet in Northrend, Arthas prepared to pursue him, and Tyrel mobilized the Dawnblade Legion and set out to join him.

  • Arthas ordered Uther Lightbringer to purge Stratholme, then stripped him of his authority when he refused and accused him of treason.
  • Uther and Jaina Proudmoore left Arthas, while Tyrel chose to stay with him and support his decision.
  • Most of the Silver Hand departed with Uther, but much of Lordaeron’s regular army remained under Arthas as his forces massacred Stratholme’s civilians.
  • Arthas and Tyrel confronted Mal'Ganis, who escaped and challenged them to meet him in Northrend.
  • Arthas began preparing an expedition to Northrend, while Tyrel returned to Quel'Thalas, mobilized the Dawnblade Legion, and sent his father a letter explaining why he had to go.

Ch. 71Northrend, the Far North

Tyrel led the High Elf Magic Fleet to Northrend to fight the Scourge and meet Arthas's human legion. After reaching Howling Fjord, the High Elves landed at Daggercap Bay and prepared to establish a port.

  • Tyrel sailed north aboard the Dawnblade with the High Elf Magic Fleet, leaving Valeera unconscious in Deatholme under High Priestess Countess Liadrin's care.
  • High Investigator Tesseran Bloodwatcher guided Tyrel and Kaelen Sunfury through the Frozen Sea toward Northrend.
  • The fleet reached Howling Fjord in winter, and Tyrel vowed that the Dawnblade Legion would overcome the cold and destroy the Scourge.
  • Tesseran led the fleet past Howling Fjord's cliffs into Daggercap Bay, where the High Elves saw traces of earlier human colonists.
  • Tyrel's forces chose a nearby riverbank plain for a fortress and named the settlement Dawnblade Port while they waited for Arthas's legion.

Ch. 72Dawnblade Port

Tyrel oversaw Dawnblade Port’s construction and sent forces to explore Howling Fjord while Tesseran sought permission to investigate an ancient Vrykul castle. The Scourge attacked the unfinished port, and the battle left Tyrel suspecting that its giant-like undead were Vrykul.

  • Tyrel ordered Cain Sunfury and Mylah Dawncaller to explore west and east, and allowed Tesseran Bloodwatcher to investigate the ancient castle.
  • The Dawnblade Legion continued building Dawnblade Port until the archers sounded an alarm as undead gathered along the cliffs.
  • Tyrel and the defenders fought off Gargoyles and Nerubians, while Nerubian webs gave the Scourge a route onto the walls.
  • Arthas led Tyrel’s Guard in driving the Nerubians from the ramparts, and the Magisters destroyed their webbed path.
  • Giant-like undead reached the gates, and Tyrel considered whether they were the legendary Vrykul.

Ch. 73Tyrel's Guardian

Tyrel defended Dawnblade Port from the Scourge, killing a Crypt Lord and holding back the undead after they broke through the gates. Meanwhile, Valeera mourned his absence at his manor, where Countess Liadrin told her that Tyrel had gone to Northrend to protect her.

  • A Crypt Lord led the Scourge assault and smashed through Dawnblade Port's gates.
  • Tyrel leaped down to fight the Crypt Lord, destroying its beetle swarm and killing it with Holy Light.
  • Tyrel used his Paladin abilities to hold the thousands of undead pouring through the gates and inspired Dawnblade Port's defenders.
  • At Tyrel's manor, Valeera mistook Countess Liadrin's arrival for Tyrel's return and then sank back into grief.
  • Countess Liadrin comforted Valeera and explained that Tyrel had left for dangerous Northrend because he feared he could not protect her there.

Ch. 74Mana Addiction and Arcane Crystals

After the Scourge attack, Tyrel helped the Dawnblade Legion recover from Mana Addiction and rebuild Dawnblade Port, while High Investigator Tesseran Bloodwatcher returned with evidence linking the Vrykul to ancient humans. The chapter left Tyrel considering the connection revealed by the Vrykul weapons.

  • Tyrel ordered the Scourge corpses gathered and burned, but the Dawnblade Magisters collapsed when their Mana Addiction flared after exhausting their mana.
  • Tyrel had Arthas bring Arcane Crystals into Dawnblade Port, where the magisters siphoned their energy and recovered.
  • The magisters used the crystals to shield the port from wind and snow, and Tyrel planned a sturdier gate made from Mother Tree Sas'aral's wood.
  • The High Elves completed and decorated Dawnblade Port, transforming its climate and planting arcane trees and flowers to make it resemble Eversong Woods.
  • High Investigator Tesseran Bloodwatcher returned from Utgarde Keep with well-preserved Vrykul weapons that resembled ancient human weapons.
  • Tyrel learned that the similarities between Vrykul and ancient human weapons suggested the two peoples shared a deep connection.

Ch. 75Ashen Dragon Nest

Kaelen Sunfury and Cain explored southwestern Howling Fjord, discovering abandoned human farmland, Scourge Plague, ancient Vrykul tombs, Frost Trolls, and an Ashen Dragon Nest. They found Muradin Bronzebeard defending the Western Garrison Fortress from a Scourge assault, and Kaelen led the Dawnblade Spellblades to help.

  • Kaelen Sunfury and the Dawnblade Spellblades found abandoned human farmland, Scourge Plague in the grain, and ancient Vrykul tombs where Scourge Necromancers were raising the dead.
  • Kaelen Sunfury led the Spellblades north, where they killed large numbers of Frost Trolls.
  • Cain discovered an Ashen Dragon Nest and recognized that its Proto-Dragons could become a valuable cavalry force, but he avoided the nest to prevent needless casualties.
  • Kaelen Sunfury found an island inhabited by an unknown race and then discovered a Dwarven fortress under attack by the Scourge.
  • Muradin Bronzebeard fought the Scourge at the Western Garrison Fortress, and Kaelen Sunfury chose to lead the Dawnblade Spellblades to support the Dwarves.

Ch. 76Western Garrison Fortress

Muradin Bronzebeard and his Dwarves joined the Dawnblade Spellblades in defeating a Scourge army near Western Garrison Fortress, though Kaelen Sunfury still resented Muradin over an old humiliation. After learning of the Dwarven presence, Tyrel Sunstrider planned cooperation against the Scourge, sent Mylah Dawnblade to negotiate, and assigned Cain to investigate proto-dragons.

  • Muradin Bronzebeard led the Dwarves of Western Garrison Fortress in a counterattack after High Elf reinforcements struck the Scourge from behind.
  • The Dwarves and Dawnblade Spellblades destroyed the Scourge army, and Muradin welcomed the High Elves.
  • Kaelen Sunfury recognized Muradin from the humiliation at Light's Hope Chapel but kept his grudge to himself and led the Spellblades away.
  • Cain returned to Dawnblade Port with news of Muradin and the Dwarven Explorer's Association, and Tyrel Sunstrider urged him to postpone challenging Muradin.
  • Tyrel sent Mylah Dawnblade to Western Garrison Fortress to discuss an alliance and tasked Cain with investigating Ashen Dragon Nest and the proto-dragons.

Ch. 77Rune Blade Frostmourne

Tyrel learned that the Cult of the Damned had spread rumors about Frostmourne and warned the Dwarves against searching for it. After Arthas arrived in Howling Fjord, news came that Muradin Bronzebeard had gone looking for the blade and was surrounded by the Scourge, and Arthas set out to rescue him.

  • High Examiner Tesseran told Tyrel that the Cult of the Damned had deliberately spread information about Frostmourne, and Tyrel asked Mylah Dawncaller to warn the Dwarves not to search for it.
  • Tyrel’s forces allied with the Taunka of Winterhoof Camp and the human hunters of Vidvar Hunter Camp to push back Scourge outposts in Howling Fjord.
  • Arthas arrived at Dawnblade Port with his human expeditionary force and asked Tyrel whether they had found Mal'Ganis; Tyrel said they had not.
  • Tyrel revealed that Muradin Bronzebeard and the Dwarven Explorer's Association were in Howling Fjord, lifting Arthas’s spirits.
  • Mylah reported that Muradin had searched for Frostmourne and was surrounded by the Scourge, and Arthas offered to save him.

Ch. 78Forgotten Coast

Arthas joined Muradin Bronzebeard in searching for Frostmourne after helping defeat the Scourge in Howling Fjord, while the allied forces sailed toward Dragonblight. After Arthas left Captain Rook Valenfus to defend the Forgotten Coast, an envoy arrived bearing King Terenas Menethil II's pardon and order for the expedition to return to Lordaeron.

  • Arthas rescued Muradin Bronzebeard's surrounded Dwarven forces, and Muradin told him about Frostmourne and asked for his help finding it.
  • Arthas and Muradin's forces defeated the Scourge in Howling Fjord, and Arthas persuaded the Frost Trolls to join them as mercenaries in exchange for learning the Scourge's headquarters was in Icecrown Glacier.
  • The allied forces sailed toward Dragonblight, while Arthas's human fleet and Muradin's Dwarven fleet docked at the Forgotten Coast and Tyrel warned Arthas about the Keepers of the Grove.
  • Arthas left Captain Rook Valenfus to defend the Forgotten Coast and departed with Muradin to search for Frostmourne.
  • An envoy from the Kingdom of Lordaeron arrived with King Terenas Menethil II's royal pardon and a request for Arthas and the expeditionary force to return home.

Ch. 79Moonwhisper Temple, a High Elf Ruin

Tyrel and the Dawnblade Legion reached the ruins of Moonwhisper Temple, where they discovered an Arcane Weave node and met the ghost of Isenian Moonshadow. Isenian revealed that the temple’s High Elves had been destroyed while summoning Arkanimus and asked Tyrel to destroy the creature so their souls could rest.

  • Tyrel thanked Elder Koonani for letting the High Elf fleet dock at Mok'Nathal Port, and Koonani told him about the ruins of Moonwhisper Temple.
  • Tyrel promised weapons and armor to the Karuuk Clan, and Koonani sent Murloc turtle ships to guide the fleet to Radiant Coast.
  • Tyrel led the Dawnblade Legion through Moonwhisper Temple and discovered that the ruins stood on an Arcane Weave node.
  • Tyrel followed a voice to a building and met the ghost of Isenian Moonshadow, who recognized his ancestry.
  • Isenian told Tyrel that a failed attempt to summon an Arcane Elemental had destroyed the temple and that Arkanimus was sealed beneath the ruins.
  • Isenian asked Tyrel to destroy Arkanimus and free the souls bound to Moonwhisper Temple.

Ch. 80Contract and Elegy

At Moonwhisper Temple, Tyrel and the Dawnblade Legion released Arkanimus from its seal and fought it until it offered Tyrel a contract. After Arkanimus bonded with Tyrel, the High Elf ghosts attained true rest and sang the High Elf Elegy.

  • The Dawnblade Magisters weakened the Blue Dragonflight's seal while containing Arkanimus, and Tyrel led the Dawnblade Legion in an attack.
  • As the Magisters drained its energy, Arkanimus surrendered and told Tyrel it would form a contract in exchange for freedom and the ghosts' rest.
  • Tyrel formed a high-level Arcane Contract with Arkanimus, which merged into his body as the seal vanished.
  • Isenian Moonshadow and tens of thousands of High Elf ghosts appeared to thank Tyrel for allowing them to rest.
  • The High Elf ghosts sang the High Elf Elegy, and the Dawnblade Legion's High Elves wept.
