Background / History

Er Gouzi lives with Lance on Black Dragon Island. When Lucia first encounters it, Lance explains that it is a Two-Headed Hellhound that has not yet become a Pureblood Hellhound. Its name, which literally resembles “Second Dog,” is considered an insult to such a creature. 4

Lucia initially fears Er Gouzi but soon begins competing with it for food. The two quarrel over meat buns, food scraps, and games, although Lucia gradually becomes familiar enough to understand some of its gestures and barks. 13 359

Er Gouzi considers itself an important member of Lance's household. When Lance paints Lucia and Turtle Turtle, it deliberately positions itself where it cannot be overlooked and tries to enter the family portrait. 39

Lance regularly feeds and trains Er Gouzi, including testing his Extraordinary potions on it. The Hellhound later develops additional heads after consuming material derived from a Deep Sea Giant Demon, eventually becoming a true Three-Headed Hellhound. 164 373 420

Appearance

Er Gouzi is a large Hellhound with two dog heads for most of its early appearances. Both heads can act independently while sharing the same body, food supply, and doghouses. 373

Distinguishing features include:

• Two pairs of dog eyes and ears before its third-head evolution.
• Netherflame that can engulf its heads, paws, and body. 117
• A third head that appears after its evolution into a genuine Three-Headed Hellhound. 420

Personality

Er Gouzi is proud, competitive, and highly protective of its place in Lance's household. It becomes jealous when Lucia receives Lance's attention and insists on being included in family activities and paintings. 39

It is also food-motivated and enjoys Lance's cooking, particularly meat, lobster, strong liquor, and food scraps left on bones. Lance does not mistreat it when feeding the household. 56 301 359

Although Er Gouzi frequently chases, teases, or threatens Lucia, it does not treat her as a true enemy. It helps her prepare for danger, agrees to accompany her against the Dragon Island Young Dragons, and considers protecting Lance when a powerful summoned being appears. 359 363

Its pride can make it petty. It pretends not to recognize Lance after becoming the leader of a group of dogs in Lionheart City, and it reacts furiously when Lucia secretly plans to hide medicine in its dumplings. 94 391 392
