History

Civil War and Theresica's Accession

Kazdel endured centuries of warfare before a civil war began in 1068 between Empress Theresia and Regent Theresis over political ideals and the throne. Their conflict devastated the city and depleted the treasury. 1 3

Following Theresia's death and Theresis's disappearance, the Royal Court urged Theresica—Theresia's only direct blood relative—to inherit the throne. He initially refused, considering himself unfit to lead a state beset by war, poverty, and international hostility. 1

After seeing the ruined city and Sarkaz children unable to speak their own language, Theresica intervened in the conflict. The factions withdrew their forces from Kazdel's central district, and he faced their leaders in the council hall. 2

On May 1, 1070, Theresica was crowned King of Kazdel through a royal ritual that awakened the Sarkaz banners' symbols. 3

Early Reconstruction

Theresica's first decree ordered a nationwide population census and the creation of a unified education system for all children aged six to twelve. The census was intended to identify Kazdel's population, age structure, skills, and potential military manpower. 3

The census later found that Infected people comprised 30% of the Sarkaz population. It also identified high infant mortality despite high birth rates. 9

To fund reconstruction, Kazdel continued exporting high-purity Originium to Victoria, despite the associated risk of worsening Oripathy among miners. Theresica directly acquired a mine after witnessing its unsafe conditions and lack of protective equipment. 3 4

Food Crisis and Foreign Trade

Kazdel's domestic food sources covered only about 35% of its consumption, leaving it dependent on trade, fishing, and limited local wheat production. 10

Theresica pursued a trade agreement with Siracusa: Kazdel supplied weapons, armor, and Originium, while Siracusa supplied grain and medicine. Father Agniel witnessed the treaty. 11

Kazdel later signed an agreement with Yan to export airships in exchange for grain, Lungmen Dollars, and farming technology. Yan's quoted grain price was one-third of Siracusa's import price. 34

Wars and Expansion

Kazimierz declared war on Kazdel on April 1, 1071. Kazdel used coordinated small-unit raids, drones, Arts bombardment, defensive formations, and newly equipped experimental troops to wear down the invading Knights Errant. 24 25 26

A 500-man experimental unit, supported by more than 2,000 Sarkaz troops, annihilated 5,000 Kazimierz Beastmaster Knights while suffering fewer than 200 total losses. 26

Kazdel ultimately captured Kazimierz's high-ranking knights and besieged the remaining expeditionary force for nineteen days. The surviving force surrendered on May 1 after exhausting its food supply. 29

The subsequent peace agreement required Kazimierz to cede territory, pay reparations, ransom prisoners, and execute more than 100 named nobles in Kazdel. 31

Later Developments

Kazdel received engineering assistance from Iberia after the Seaborn crisis, including transport ships, blueprints, technical workers, and shipbuilding expertise. Theresica established the Meyer Shipyard and a shipbuilding training school in response. 23

Kazdel's first independently produced top-tier transport ship, AK, completed its trials after the shipyard absorbed Iberian techniques and experience gained from mobile-city construction work. 45

Victoria later deployed a major fleet near Kazdel and demonstrated its artillery through prolonged desert bombardment. Kazdel avoided immediate war by raising its ship export prices to satisfy Victoria's demands while relying on diplomatic support from Ursus. 47 48 49

Education

Refinery workers receive equal distribution of Oripathy containment medicine and are prioritized for health monitoring. Kazdel halted refining for twelve days to install protective boron plates and modify refinery safety systems. 37

The state also offered free medical care to the returning Wendigo tribe, including Bodrocasti after his Oripathy infection was revealed. 46

Economy and Industry

Originium

Kazdel's Sarkaz population has exceptional compatibility with Originium, making the state highly efficient at refining high-purity material. This advantage underpins much of its foreign trade, but also contributes to severe Oripathy risks among workers. 3

Captured Kazimierz prisoners were employed in mines after the war. Their labor, combined with improved conditions and food incentives, increased Kazdel's high-purity Originium output. 32
