Background / History
Miranda is Val Arendt’s firstborn daughter and legal heir. Her childhood was shaped by the Year of Blood: her mother died while pregnant, while Miranda’s older brother had already died young. Val’s grief and suspicion left Miranda feeling that her survival was treated as something to be questioned rather than celebrated. 651
She was sent to Terminus Tower, where she trained alongside Kohn Karabiyan, Raphael Lindberg, Chloe Myrke, Cohen Karabiyen, and other future swordsmen. Miranda became the Tower’s Chief Seed, gaining a reputation as the strongest member of her cohort. 125 139 190
Before the Dragoncloud City crisis, she discovered that her father had been in contact with strange northern swordsmen whose Ending Powers differed from those she knew. She reported this information to Chatil, drawing her into the investigation surrounding the Calamity Sword. 121
Val was later imprisoned for his crimes. Miranda outwardly insists that his fate does not affect her, but his imprisonment, the uncertainty of her inheritance, and the royal pressure placed on House Arendt remain central to her political ambitions. 130 649
Appearance
Miranda is a swordswoman who normally dresses for mobility and combat rather than display. Her reserved bearing and noble temperament make disguising herself as a common mercenary difficult. 121 247
- Usually wears black gloves over her numb hands. 139
- Carries the longsword Eagle Soar. 652 707
- Bears a severe scar running from her shoulder to her nape and into her hairline, inflicted by a Northlander’s weapon. 661
- Finds formal gowns, earrings, high heels, and the inability to carry a weapon deeply impractical. 661 779
Personality
Miranda is controlled, observant, and direct. Even under pressure, she focuses on the useful question—whether interrogating enemies, comforting Chloe without empty reassurances, or judging a political proposal by its concrete value. 125 134 782
She is fiercely resistant to being reduced to a daughter, a pawn, or an exceptional “female warrior.” Miranda openly challenges the assumption that a woman seeking title, land, and authority is unusual, arguing that such ambition would be considered natural in a male heir. 650
Her composure does not make her emotionless. Raphael’s altered Ending Power unsettles her deeply, Chloe’s betrayal pains her, and the loss of her family’s position drives much of her determination. 146 230 649
Around people she trusts, Miranda can be teasing and unexpectedly playful. She gives Marius unwanted nicknames, mocks Tales when he is nervous, and treats her alliance with Tales as serious while refusing to make it sentimental. 649 652 708
Abilities & Skills
Pegasus Movement
Miranda’s Ending Power and signature sword style is the Pegasus Movement. Rather than relying on a fixed sequence of forms, it follows the rhythm of a fight: movement, stillness, timing, and the opponent’s openings. 139 648
- Uses observation, judgment, and battle rhythm to turn an opponent’s initiative into her own opportunity. 139 648
- Can transition from delayed defense into aggressive close-quarters pressure once an opponent’s rhythm is broken. 780
- Allows her to regulate her body in emergencies, including slowing bleeding and easing muscle contraction after injury. 263
- Is highly effective against conventional swordplay, but can be disrupted by opponents whose speed and killing methods exceed her ability to establish a rhythm. 780
Numb Hands
Miranda’s hands cannot feel pain or sensation, yet she has trained herself to wield a sword with them. This condition makes her unusually resistant to Ending Powers that depend on pain, bodily disruption, or sensory interference. 139
- Greed’s Touch fails to immobilize her or disrupt her swordplay as intended. 139
- Her inability to feel through her hands forces her to rely on sight, judgment, and rhythm rather than tactile feedback. 139
- The numbness does not make her immune to other injuries; she can still be severely wounded and physically exhausted. 707 780
Swordsmanship and Tactical Analysis
Miranda is an accomplished Terminus swordswoman with exceptional reflexes, Perception, and combat discipline. Salland Kray judges that she could reach the Extreme Realm with time. 139
- Defeated Nesi and Bastier simultaneously while controlling the rhythm of their duel. 648
- Identifies enemy sword styles, physical weaknesses, and the likely nature of unfamiliar abilities through observation. 139 675
- Recognized that the Calamity Sword was being framed for the assassination attempt against Tales, based on its members’ conduct and contempt for politics and Magic Energy Guns. 193
- Can remain tactically active while badly injured, using alarms, negotiation, and terrain to delay stronger opponents. 782
Perception of Hidden Threats
Miranda states that her Ending Power gives her a special understanding of human perception. This helps her reason through memory-based illusions and deceptive abilities. 711
With Shilai’s assistance in the ghoul tunnels, Miranda gains a means of perceiving positions beyond her ordinary line of sight, allowing her to anticipate the Back Curved Blade’s ambushes and land a successful counterattack. 781 782
- The method lets her identify an Assassin concealed around corners and in blind spots. 782
- It does not erase the difference in strength between her and an Apex Realm Assassin. 782
Equipment
- Eagle Soar — Miranda’s reforged sword. Its original Ancient Empire predecessor was destroyed, leaving much of its rumored magical power diminished. 652 707
- Black gloves — Worn over her numb hands. 139
- Light armor / half-plate armor — Used during field operations and sword fights. 139
- Eternal Lamp — Carried while escorting Shilai through Emerald City’s ghoul tunnels. 779
Story Role / Major Arcs
Dragoncloud City and the Calamity Sword
Miranda and Kohn investigate the attempted assassination of Prince Tales and the supposed involvement of the Calamity Sword. In Dragoncloud City, she fights Salland Kray, withstands his Ending Power, and deduces that Greed’s Touch is an enhanced form of Glory of the Stars. 134 139
Her investigation leads her to conclude that the Calamity Sword was framed rather than responsible for the assassination plot. She is later captured with Kohn after Chloe’s betrayal and is freed during Raphael’s prison break. 193 210
Chloe and Raphael
Miranda tries to support Chloe after her former classmate loses the use of her sword hand. Chloe’s later betrayal devastates Miranda, who nevertheless recognizes that her old friend’s transformation must have had painful causes. 125 230
Raphael’s return is equally difficult for her. Miranda immediately notices that he has lost Sorrow of Sword Washing, the Ending Power that once countered the Pegasus Movement, and reacts with unusual shock. 146 147
After the Dragoncloud City conflict, Miranda confesses her feelings to Raphael and kisses him publicly. 274
Alliance with Tales
At Star Lake Fortress, Miranda approaches Tales with a proposal: in exchange for helping her legitimately return to Iron Fortress and secure the Arendt inheritance, she will help him regain influence and bring the North under direct Starfall rule. 649 651
The two eventually swear a blood oath under an ancient Northland rite. Miranda makes clear that their alliance is conditional: she will abandon Tales if he fails her expectations, and she expects betrayal to remain a possibility in both their lives. 652
Emerald City
Miranda becomes part of Tales’ Emerald City entourage as a prospective Prince’s Attendant Officer. Besides combat duties, Marius assigns her to contact nobles and influential local families, using her Arendt status in the city’s social arena. 654 657
She later escorts Shilai Cavendish through the ghoul tunnels after Zadvi’s disappearance. When an Apex Realm Assassin known as the Back Curved Blade attacks, Miranda is badly wounded protecting Shilai, but continues fighting, raises an alarm, and delays the Assassin until Tales arrives. 779 780 781 782
Relationships
- Tales Radiant Star — Political ally and sworn blood-oath partner. Miranda offers him her surname, influence, and service in return for support in reclaiming the North; she also raises the possibility of becoming his Queen as part of her larger political goal. 649 651 652
- Raphael Lindberg — Former Terminus Tower peer and Miranda’s love interest. His changed Ending Power and Secret Bureau affiliation strain their relationship, but Miranda later confesses her feelings publicly. 146 274
- Kohn Karabiyan — Longtime Tower peer and trusted battlefield partner. They investigate Dragoncloud City together, fight side by side, and Kohn supports Miranda when Raphael’s condition leaves her shaken. 125 147 193
- Chloe Myrke — Former classmate and roommate. Miranda shows genuine care after Chloe’s injury, then faces her as an enemy after Chloe’s betrayal. 125 230 263
- Val Arendt — Her imprisoned father and former Warden Duke of the North. Their relationship is distant, but his crimes and unresolved succession cast a shadow over Miranda’s future. 121 130 649
- Tormund Marius — Star Lake Fortress’s guard commander. Miranda respects his skill, calls him “Terror Blade” despite his objections, and works with him during the Emerald City crisis. 651 708
- Shilai Cavendish — Initially assigned to protect her, Miranda develops mutual trust with Shilai in the ghoul tunnels. Shilai saves and aids Miranda after the Assassin wounds her. 779 781
