Background / History

Historical identity

Bai Zhou witnesses an old vision in which a former Director-General and Supreme Governor of Tinghai discards his official identity and declares himself leader of the Blood Worship Cult. After receiving the Holy Relic from a black-cloaked spellcaster, that man dismantles it and creates seven new Seven Sins Cells. His face strongly resembles the present Holy Son, although the latter is much thinner and paler 419.

The resemblance prompts Bai Zhou to investigate successive cult leaders. Their records repeatedly describe disappearances, mutation, loss of control, and deaths leaving only rotten flesh. Bai Zhou and Ya infer that a single hidden figure may have continued through generations by possessing or replacing bodies, with Blood Thirst Syndrome driving his repeated deterioration 431.

A later account describes the Holy Son as having reached the Decayer level repeatedly before seizing new bodies and cultivating again. Whether every cult leader across those centuries was him remains uncertain. His own admission that he altered history concerning Luo Tunan, and his use of a century-old cult leader’s lost Destiny Contract, reinforce the connection 445 462 464.

Cultivation of Luo Tunan

The Holy Son secretly financed and guided Luo Tunan, also known as Major Luo and Pride. He influenced Luo’s Sacred Body development and tampered with its nine components—the Nine Dragons of the Luo Family—in preparation for harvesting an exceptionally powerful brain 368.

Luo’s attempted Sainthood Ascension nearly exceeded those safeguards. The Holy Son admits that extracting the brain himself would have required all his methods, exposed him publicly, and still might have failed. Bai Zhou’s timely killing of Luo removed that danger; the Holy Son subsequently obtained the surviving brain 368.

The century-long plan

Bai Zhou and the Gem Witch reconstruct a possible earlier failure: the seventy-second cult leader sacrificed a “Golden Generation” of Seven Sins to reassemble the Holy Relic, but the reconstructed relic lacked flesh and blood. They connect that failure to Blood Thirst Syndrome and interpret the Fantasyland Project’s production of Fragrant Meat as an attempt to supply the missing material. This explanation is their deduction, not a fully disclosed confession from the Holy Son 432.

The Holy Son openly seeks the descent of the Blood Moon and the arrival of Daydream, with Tinghai serving as the starting point for wider conquest. His ultimate reason for pursuing the ritual remains unresolved 368 369 432.

Appearance

  • Apparent age: Described as a middle-aged man when recruiting Sloth 262.
  • Clothing: Black robes and a hood that bulges unnaturally high, resembling two vertically stacked heads 259.
  • Face: Pale and severely gaunt, with flesh pressed close to the bones. Bai Zhou compares him to a malnourished, seriously ill version of the man seen in the historical vision 419.
  • Defining feature: A writhing red-and-white, octopus-like brain mounted atop his head, later identified as the Brain in a Vat 259 368 467.
  • Public procession: Appears amid gray fog, ghostly attendants, and an unnatural Blood Moon that darkens a street at midday 463 464.

Personality

The Holy Son presents himself as a patient, authoritative creator. He recruits Sloth through promises of maturity, glory, and eventual supremacy on Blue Star, comparing himself to Prometheus bringing stolen fire into the world. His invitations combine apparent sincerity with an expectation of ownership and obedience 262.

He takes an aesthetic interest in Sloth’s combat abilities, treating the Fallen Saint Physician’s body as an ideal war machine and declaring it his “masterpiece.” He also deliberately cultivates a leader’s breadth of mind: believing himself the cult’s sole future heir, he considers coveting a subordinate’s minor gains beneath him 271 294 295.

His caution is genuine. Before recognizing Sloth’s identity, he studies Bai Zhou’s growth, warns that stronger opponents repeatedly fall before him, and orders Sloth never to underestimate him. Nevertheless, confidence in his control over his creations leaves him vulnerable to Bai Zhou’s infiltration 368 444.

Betrayal shatters that composure. Discovering Sloth’s treachery makes him tremble, vomit blood, and issue a nearly feral pursuit order. His ruthlessness also extends to loyal followers: when cult forces turn on one another, he kills both sides and declares them unfit for his new world 444 463.

Abilities & Skills

Monster Path and Chen Destiny

  • Follows the Monster Path, whose power shares an origin with Adventurer but is more chaotic and corrupt 467.
  • Possesses Chen Destiny, the same Destiny as Bai Zhou 467.
  • Their opposing paths produce an instinctive urge to devour one another. Destiny indicates that the victor may seize the loser’s Destiny and undergo a transformative change 467.

Blood Moon

  • Produces an unnatural Blood Moon over the battlefield, accompanied by darkness, fog, and a Processional Retinue 463 464.
  • Claims he can appear anywhere touched by its light 466.
  • Interferes with connections carrying occult information, preventing Bai Zhou from summoning his Sunlight Legion through the Holy Relic Seal 466.
  • Limitation: Its moonlight is not exclusive to him. Bai Zhou draws on its Moonlight Essence to replenish his own power 466.

Blood Moonfall

  • A lost Destiny Contract recognized as a cult leader’s trump card from a century earlier 464.
  • Offensive use: Drops a vast meteorite-like shadow from the Blood Moon, demolishing buildings, scattering troops, and gravely injuring three Lifeforgers wielding E-Class Black Boxes 464.
  • Defensive use: Forms a descending Blood Moon shield that stabilizes the surrounding overturned space and blocks Bai Zhou’s enhanced Blade-Flipping, Sword-Overturning Cosmos Form 468.
  • Cost: Its use strains his gravely ill body, leaving him coughing and paler 466.

Blood Thirst Syndrome and Reconstruction

  • Identifies himself as Patient Zero of Blood Thirst Syndrome 467.
  • Releases infectious blood mist even after being reduced to a skeleton 467.
  • Drains infected victims into detached masses of flesh, which gather around his skeleton and reconstruct his body. Their bones form a throne beneath him 467.
  • Can replace destroyed bodies and reinstall the Brain in a Vat. At headquarters, 1,001 identical masses of rotten flesh stand behind the Needle Throne after another replacement 404.
  • Limitation: Severe emotional fluctuations aggravate his condition. The Needle Throne injects blood-like fluid to stabilize him 445.

Demon Cells and Creation of the Seven Sins

  • Personally cultivates the current generation of Seven Sins and supplies the Demon Cell used to complete the artificial Sloth 262 293.
  • Places control backdoors inside Demon Cells, expecting to reclaim or command the resulting creations 304 467.
  • Arranges Sloth’s recognition and coronation so that the Gospel of Sloth and institute-head authority can unlock the predecessor’s sealed treasures 293.
  • Failed control: His attempt to reclaim Bai Zhou’s Demon Blade through the Sloth Cell fails because the cell has been integrated into the Spirit-Name Secret Treasure 355 467.

Brain-Mediated Attacks

  • Emits invisible ripples from the brains above his head, exerting pressure that compels submission 265.
  • With a finger snap, intensifies those vibrations until the Art Club’s painter-assassins rupture from within 265.
  • Victims die with serene smiles, appearing to remain immersed in pleasant dreams 265.

Combat Mastery

  • Combines spellcasting, melee combat, secret techniques, and Destiny Contracts with exceptional precision 468.
  • Tears apart Winter’s Aria’s crystalline ice dragons with his bare hands and intercepts Bai Zhou’s saber-and-sword attacks with his staff 468.
  • Draws apparently inexhaustible spirituality from his Bone Throne during the duel 468.
  • Vulnerability: Bai Zhou’s sudden release of the spirit-name “Wait” slows his thoughts and movements before he can deploy his stronger abilities 467.

Historical Manipulation and Covert Organization

  • Claims responsibility for altering history so that Luo Tunan’s hostile role toward Bai Zhou was replaced by Elder Wu’s, without removing Bai Zhou’s achievements as a Savior 445.
  • Uses the Brain in a Vat in repeated “denials” that conceal activity from the Tianjing Differential Engine and resist “historical repair” 404.
  • Builds an organization behind legitimate businesses, including the Little Yellow Rat Delivery Company, while keeping arrangements hidden even from other cult leadership 425.
  • Communicates through Gospel Books and speaks through an unnaturally behaving guide at the delivery company’s underground facility 425.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Brain in a Vat — B-Class Black Box associated with Luo Tunan’s harvested brain; repeatedly transferred onto replacement bodies 368 456 462.
  • Black-and-red magic staff — Shorter than the Black Scepter, with a scarlet gem at its tip. Used for Blood Moonfall and close-range weapon defense 464 468.
  • Needle Throne — Medical apparatus covered in syringes and rusted needles; sustains his life and alleviates his condition through injections 445 464.
  • Bone Throne — Formed from infected victims’ bones during reconstruction; appears to supply continuous spirituality in battle 467 468.
  • Forbidden Canon — Inherits a lineage of Forbidden Canons; its specific title is not supplied 259 295.
  • Inheritance Bone Key — Obtained through Sloth’s recovery of the predecessor’s sealed treasures and used to unlock further inheritance. Bai Zhou secretly implants influences through it before the Holy Son’s secluded cultivation 366 373.

Relationships

  • Bai Zhou / Sloth — Recruits him as a creation and future lieutenant, unaware that he is an infiltrator. Their relationship becomes open warfare and then a contest between opposing Chen Destiny holders 262 425 445 467.
  • Luo Tunan / Major Luo / Pride — Secretly financed subject whose development was intended to produce a harvestable brain. His near-successful Sainthood Ascension threatened the Holy Son’s control 368.
  • The previous Sloth — Predecessor whose sealed treasures he needs recovered. Bai Zhou exploits that interest by falsely blaming the destruction of her remnant consciousness on the Five Elders Institute 293 366.
  • Five Elders Institute — Rival faction that suppresses him. He reacts furiously to the apparent Five Elders Edict attack on Sloth, but later orders the institute to mobilize against Bai Zhou 366 456.
  • Sertraline, Fluoxetine, and Paroxetine — Attendants assigned to support Sloth and manage his position within the cult on the Holy Son’s behalf 262 374.
  • The Gem Witch — Essential target of his plan. He orders her capture and also targets her family, despite lacking basic knowledge of her identity 428 462.
  • Greed, Wrath, Gluttony, and Lust — Artificial Seven Sins deployed as mission support and diversionary forces; he appoints Sloth above them while allowing challenges to that authority 369.
