Red
"Ebony, flame, gemstones."
Linsey uttered those three words without hesitation, which elicited a puzzled look from the girl:
"Is this the Common Language?"
What do they mean?
Linsey explained it again in Beast Language, and the girl murmured softly, "Ebony, flame, gemstone..."
In the Common Language of this world, ebony and fire are two-syllable nouns, while gemstones are three-syllable nouns, one of which happens to have a similar tone.
The girl pronounced the syllable as "red?"
"I think you can think about it again..." Linsey thought of her Godmother in the Hidden Borderlands and instinctively wanted to persuade the girl to change her mind.
But to his surprise, the girl in front of him lowered her head slightly.
Even from this limited perspective, Linsey could see the radiant smile on the other person's face, and a hint of expectation brimming with inner emotion:
"I think this is good."
"Linsey, from now on my name will be Red. Do you like my name?"
"..."
Linsey couldn't bring herself to say no, no matter what.
I really like your name.
The girl raised her head, her starry eyes shining brightly.
Then she turned around and led the way, saying, "That's good, I like it too."
"Linsey, do you want me to help you choose a name too?"
Linsey resolutely refused:
"I have a name, and I don't plan to change it."
The girl didn't dwell on that, turning her attention back to her name: "Tell me what the name 'Red' means in Common Language?"
Linsey provided the answer:
"In Common Language, red is generally used to describe the color of objects, such as your eyes, your dress..."
This was supposed to be just a simple concept popularization session.
But it wasn't long before Linsey realized the special nature of Red.
This guy's learning speed is frighteningly fast!
The pronunciation and syllables of the Common Language are etched into the mind the moment they are heard.
If you ask her to repeat or state the meaning again, there will be no mistakes.
Extending from pronunciation and byte order to other combinations of words or phrases, one can also master them instantly.
Two hours later.
Red was already able to have a halting conversation with Linsey in Common Language.
After another full afternoon, the two set up camp in the basin, preparing to spend the night.
Hong has completely given up on Beast Language.
According to her, as a human being, she must adapt to this era.
The language used, of course, cannot be the one used in Devil Beast.
By the time dinner was being prepared, Linsey had become somewhat numb.
Although Hong had lost her memory, she was quick-witted. Recalling everything that had happened that day, she immediately guessed what was going on.
The girl quietly shifted her position and sat down next to Linsey in front of the campfire.
"Hello, hello?"
She nudged Linsey with her shoulder. "Linsey, am I learning a little too fast?"
Linsey rolled her eyes. "It's not just a little fast, it's ridiculously fast!"
"Most people spend years learning a language, but you think you can learn it in a day... If I didn't experience it myself, but someone else told me that, I would think that person has something wrong with their head."
The only thing Linsey could console herself about when facing the girl beside her was the language skill on her Attribute Panel.
This is also one of his tools for accelerating learning.
Moreover, it has the ability to create something out of nothing, which is actually quite excessive when you think about it.
Snap! The skill pointer for [Food Production] stopped exactly on the perfect grid.
Linsey received a hot, perfectly roasted meat and handed it to the girl next to her first.
Hong took a bite of the roast meat, her lips glistening with oil, and her voice became muffled as she spoke to Linsey, "But, this isn't difficult, is it?"
"Maybe it's because I used to know this language?"
Linsey shrugged:
"That might be true."
"In short, the speed at which you are learning languages right now is absolutely outrageous."
While the two were talking, Linsey had finished preparing his second piece of roast meat and began to enjoy his dinner.
Meanwhile, Hong's attention began to shift.
She got the roast meat first and finished eating it first. After throwing away the remaining bones, the greasy feeling left on her fingertips was quite novel to her.
The girl began to stare at her fingers.
She pinched her index finger and thumb together, rubbed them together, and then her whole palm began to feel the greasy texture.
"Sticky, slippery, disgusting..."
This curiosity gradually turned into discomfort.
Hong wanted to wipe off the grease, so she immediately set her sights on her skirt.
Slap! Linsey grabbed Lindsay's greasy red hand.
The girl looked completely bewildered, utterly unable to comprehend Linsey's actions.
"Although we don't need to pay as much attention to hygiene when we're traveling in the wild, we still need to cultivate good living habits."
Linsey continued, as if teaching a child, "It's best not to put grease or other dirty things on your clothes."
The girl stuck out her tongue and licked her pink lips:
"Should I lick it off?"
"Don't lick it!" Linsey quickly stopped Hong from doing so. "You can wipe it off with something else!"
Hong was a little angry.
She pouted, her gaze towards Linsey turning fierce. "You can't wipe it, you can't lick it, are you looking for trouble!"
Linsey then pulled out her Workbench and immediately crafted a piece of cloth from Spider Silk:
"Use this to wipe it."
Hong took the cloth and wiped her hands, while Linsey continued eating.
But the girl who had finished wiping her hands was not content to stay still. She crawled behind Linsey and began to study things she didn't understand.
Beautiful, ruby-like eyes stared intently at her own buttocks.
Linsey was so uncomfortable that she couldn't even eat. She had no choice but to put down the barbecue and turn around. "Red, what are you planning to do now?"
The girl pointed to the Workbench that Linsey had just taken out. "I'm curious, where did you get this from?"
"..."
So that's what you were curious about.
Linsey breathed a sigh of relief with a complicated expression, and quickly explained, "This is my skill. It can create things that are beyond common sense, like how I can take it out."
The girl's interest was piqued:
"Skills, you mentioned that before! And that so-called Essence!"
"Linsey, when are you going to teach me this?"
Linsey pointed to her barbecue:
"Wait until I finish eating!"
"..."
After dinner, Linsey gathered some firewood and placed it by the campfire for later use.
The knowledge instruction for the awakened ones in the red realm slowly unfolded as night fell.
Linsey softened her tone as much as possible, speaking as if she were addressing a beginner:
"Generally speaking, 'Essence ' refers to a kind of power in the world, while 'skills' are the various abilities we cultivate ourselves. When the two are combined, they can create amazing effects, and at this point, a person can be called an Awakened One..."
After explaining the basic concepts, Linsey moved on to the main point of the evening.
He straightened his posture and spoke with the utmost seriousness:
"Red, let me explain first. I have four skills with clearly defined paths: Hunting, Life, Death, and War. If you want to learn them, I can teach you any of them..."
Hearing this, Hong was extremely excited.
Before Linsey could finish speaking, she interrupted, asking, "What kind of abilities do they have?"
"Wait, Linsey! I want the kind where you pull something out of your ass! Teach me that!"
There will be another update tonight, but I type slowly. I suggest everyone go to bed early and get up early, and check back tomorrow.
