Flender belonged to the renowned Golden Iron Triangle alongside Liu Erlong and Yu Xiaogang. Although outsiders sometimes assumed he led the group because his cultivation was highest, Flender knew that Yu Xiaogang was its true leader and the core of their Martial Soul Fusion Skill 54 80.

He founded Shrek Academy outside Suotuo City, accepting exceptionally talented students known as “monsters.” By the time he decided to leave its original campus, he had devoted eighteen years to the academy. Its crude buildings and limited resources contrasted sharply with his ambition to make it flourish 54 86 88.

Lin Hai’s Arrival

Lin Hai visited Shrek after learning that its founder was Liu Erlong’s former companion. Flender initially suspected the young visitor might be lying about knowing her, but details of their meeting in Sunset Forest persuaded him to hear Lin Hai out. He admitted that he had not seen Liu Erlong for eighteen years 54 55.

Flender accepted Lin Hai’s offer to pay for an extended stay and improve the academy’s meals. Later, Zhu Zhuqing’s extraordinary cultivation and Spirit Ring configuration drew his attention. He specifically questioned whether her second ring had already been a thousand-year ring before her reported transformation, showing that he noticed inconsistencies beneath Lin Hai’s explanation 55 58 60.

After hearing Lin Hai analyze Yu Xiaogang’s Martial Soul, Flender resolved to develop Lin Hai’s attachment to Shrek. He believed that securing such a powerful and knowledgeable ally could give the academy a limitless future 80.

Tang San’s Rescue and Relocation

Flender intervened when Bule, Tianya, and Ekao attacked Tang San. He activated Owl True Body, struck the attackers with Eagle Claw Blade, and ultimately killed all three. Believing a Titled Douluo might be involved, he carried Tang San back to Shrek, where Xiao Wu’s mother could offer protection 82 83.

Yu Xiaogang’s investigation wrongly implicated Gu Rong and the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect. Flender and Yu Xiaogang consequently planned to reunite with Liu Erlong, using the Golden Iron Triangle’s fusion skill as an additional safeguard 85.

Giving up the original Shrek campus was painful for Flender, but the students also needed facilities his academy lacked. He announced that everyone would move to Liu Erlong’s Blue Tyrant Academy in Heaven Dou City, which offered Mimic Cultivation Grounds and eligibility for the Continental Advanced Soul Master Academy Elite Tournament 86 88.

Blue Tyrant Academy was subsequently renamed Shrek Academy, with Flender as headmaster and Liu Erlong as vice headmaster. Liu Erlong complained that he left much of the work to her; Flender defended himself by pointing to the money he had saved through bargaining over the academy’s new sign 93 96.

Liu Erlong and Lin Hai’s Identity

When Liu Erlong announced that Lin Hai was her partner, Flender was stunned. He briefly raised concerns about Lin Hai’s other romantic relationships and their age difference, but ultimately accepted her choice. His love for her did not depend on becoming her partner himself 113.

During the tournament, Salas’s unusually courteous treatment of Shrek strengthened Flender’s suspicion that Lin Hai belonged to Spirit Hall. He worried about the resulting conflict with Tang Hao, Tang San, and Yu Xiaogang, and speculated that Lin Hai might be trying to bring Yu Xiaogang back to Bibi Dong 150.

Flender privately questioned Lin Hai, who confirmed that he was Spirit Hall’s Holy Son. More importantly to Flender, Lin Hai affirmed that his feelings for Liu Erlong were genuine. Flender declined an invitation to join Spirit Hall because he and Shrek’s teachers disliked restrictive rules, but accepted Lin Hai’s relationship with Liu Erlong 153 154.

Competition Finals and Aftermath

Flender arranged for Shrek and Heaven Dou Royal Academy to forfeit their individual matches against Spirit Hall Academy. His aim was to preserve Xiao Wu, Zhu Zhuqing, and Dugu Yan’s hidden abilities rather than expose them against Hu Liena without learning enough about her in return 201.

He then used Lin Hai’s presence at their camp as a proposed deterrent against Spirit Hall spying. Shrek won the subsequent team match against Heaven Dou Royal Academy, advancing to face Spirit Hall 202.

During the final, Flender asked Lin Hai to help Ma Hongjun and was shocked by Lin Hai’s doubts about the authenticity of Yu Xiaogang’s “Extreme Theory.” Shrek ultimately conceded to Spirit Hall; Flender explained that its agreed objective had been to avoid a crushing defeat rather than win outright 205 206 207.

Flender remained involved in the confrontation over Yu Xiaogang’s theories and heard his attempts to discredit Lin Hai. Afterward, Ma Hongjun accompanied Flender back to Shrek Academy 215 217.

Flender is perceptive, but his deductions are not infallible. He notices unusual Spirit Ring details and political courtesy, yet misreads Lin Hai’s broader intentions and accepts the false implication of Gu Rong in Tang San’s attack.
