Background / History

Tang San was an outer disciple of the Tang Sect in his previous life. Though acknowledged as exceptionally talented, he remained dissatisfied with the limits of the outer sect and secretly obtained the Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record. He devoted himself to its techniques and Hidden Weapons before leaping from Ghost Worrier Cliff while pursued by Tang Sect elders. A blood-red flash appeared immediately before his death; he next remembers awakening as an infant in Sacred Soul Village. 103

His rebirth is later disputed. Lin Hai accuses him of occupying the original Tang San's body, while Tang San insists that he was only reborn. Tang Hao admits that he had recognized Tang San's abnormal behavior from early childhood, including his unusually early meditation, eye training, and weapon crafting. 235

At Nuoding Academy, Tang San meets Xiao Wu in Dormitory Seven and challenges her to a spar. She overwhelms him with close-quarters attacks and throws him beneath a bed with her Soft Skill. He accepts the defeat outwardly, but resolves to win the next time. 22

After arriving at Shrek Academy, Tang San initially maintains an undefeated record in one-on-one soul battles through Tang Sect martial arts. Lin Hai secretly arranges for Bule, Ekao, and Tianya to ambush him. Tang San is badly wounded while fighting three high-level Soul Ancestors, but Flender intervenes and brings him back to Shrek for treatment. Tang Hao later gives Tang San what he believes is Ah Yin's Hundred-Thousand-Year Blue Silver Emperor Right Leg Bone. The bone has been switched for a Thousand-Year Blue Silver Grass Torso Bone, ruining an important Spirit Bone position and giving Tang San only a weak healing skill. 123 124

Following the exposure of his past-life identity and Ah Yin's refusal to awaken his Blue Silver Emperor bloodline, Tang San loses much of his sense of belonging.
