The realm of death had always been shrouded in mystery. There seemed to be no hidden mastermind controlling it from behind the scenes, and for now, that indeed appeared to be the case.
After the War of the Ancients ended, the once enormous population of the Night Elves suffered massive losses. The equally vast Troll population also withered away on a large scale. As a result, the World of Azeroth had yet to recover even now, and the world's total population had remained stuck in an awkward middle ground.
The realm of death emerged during this period. It seemed to be the will of Planet Azeroth, or perhaps the will of nature itself.
First came the spirit healers. These energy-based beings resembled pure-white female angels and remained invisible at all times. Only beings in soul form could see them.
Originally, after death, people had no other choice. But after the War of the Ancients, living beings discovered that they now had another option.
As long as their corpses had not been destroyed and had not yet decayed, they could choose to return to the world of the living. This was not the unnatural state of undeath, forcibly awakened by external means, but genuine resurrection.
Priests, paladins, Druids, and Shamans also mastered the art of resurrection, allowing fallen companions to return once more.
Of course, if someone died of old age or illness, there was nothing to be done. They had to die properly and could not be resurrected, unless they became an unnatural existence like the undead.
After the spirit healers, a death god also appeared among all Loa spirits: Bwonsamdi. This old Troll ascended after death, joined the official ranks of the Loa spirits, and began carrying out some supreme will.
Thus, the Trolls gained their own dedicated soul
