Eberron Dragon Crystals had an extremely broad range of applications across the Continent of Khorvaire.
They were standard materials for crafting all kinds of magical items, as well as the best substitutes for various spell components when mages cast spells.
If Carl had possessed Eberron Dragon Crystals in the Mind Flayer base, he could have cast Feather Fall without needing feathers.
All he would have needed to consume was a few grains of Dragon Crystal dust, each no larger than sand.
Yet the moment he saw the thing, Carl not only felt no joy but instead took several steps back.
"Hopp! Don't touch that crystal yet. Something isn't right!"
Hearing Carl's warning, Hopp's outstretched hand paused.
Though Hopp had never obtained a Dragon Crystal herself, she had seen them more than once.
These crystals occasionally appeared in Zhuomu's lands as well, though she had lacked the strength to seize them at the time.
"What is it?"
Not realizing what was wrong, Hopp looked at Carl in confusion.
Under normal circumstances, Eberron Dragon Crystals could only be mined from shallow surface soil, their surfaces usually encased in a rocky crust.
Their deposits were spread across nearly the entire planet of Eberron, although most rich veins were located in jungles.
What was strange was that this was the underground realm, the domain of the Underworld Dragon Kaibor. Eberron Dragon Crystals should not have appeared here.
"Can you be sure you're fully conscious right now? Eberron Dragon Crystals shouldn't grow in the underground realm. Could the sap of these Bioluminescent Mushrooms have hallucinogenic effects?"
As he spoke, Hopp grabbed the crystal and snapped it off at the root with a crack.
"Carl, aren't you sometimes a little too cautious? Here, give it a try and see whether it really is an Eberron Dragon Crystal."
After tossing the crystal up and down in her hand a few times and confirming it would not suddenly explode, Hopp threw it to Carl.
Carl caught the crystal in a panic. He was about to warn her not to be so reckless next time when he noticed that the spot where the crystal had grown was gradually dimming.
Not only that, but the area was transforming in the direction of "petrification."
After only a few breaths, the area around where they stood stopped glowing entirely and turned into something resembling rock.
Could this thing be converting its own life force into Dragon Crystals?
Carl lowered his head to look at the crystal in his hand, then chipped some off with a tool and ground it into dust.
Taking out the Hand Crossbow from earlier, Carl held the Dragon Crystal dust in one hand while applying his enchantment ability to it.
Just as the Hand Crossbow was nearly fully enchanted, Carl poured the dust over it and infused it with a portion of his own spiritual essence.
A faint blue glow lit up. The Hand Crossbow was successfully modified into a magical weapon with a permanent Rapid Fire Weapon effect.
"This really is an Eberron Dragon Crystal!"
Seeing that the Hand Crossbow had been successfully modified, Carl cried out in surprise.
But before he could accept this reality—
Clang!
Hopp threw four Hand Axes over.
"Good! Don't just focus on modifying your own weapons. Modify mine too!"
"I've never used magical weapons before!"
Her eyes gleaming as she stared at Carl, Hopp's expression somehow carried a distinct air of hunger.
Seeing her like this, Carl said nothing and began modifying them again.
Normally, an enchantment could only maintain one effect, but Carl was using enchantment to create magical weapons with the same effect, so there was no limit on their number.
The only things that could limit him were the amount of spiritual essence he had accumulated and his stockpile of Dragon Crystal dust.
Grinding up more Dragon Crystal, Carl began modifying the weapons under Hopp's watchful gaze.
The surrounding glow flickered from time to time as the seconds ticked away.
Who knew how long had passed before the final Hand Axe, imbued with the Returning Weapon effect, was finally complete.
Carl was just about to hand it to Hopp when he stood up and promptly toppled stiffly into her arms.
"I'm fine! My legs are just a little numb. Go test the last weapon's effect first. Let me rest for a bit."
Feeling the tingling sensation of blood rushing through the vessels in his thighs again, Carl supported himself against Hopp and lay down on the ground.
"If anything happens, just call me!"
Picking up the final Hand Axe, Hopp excitedly ran toward an open space nearby.
She threw all four Hand Axes in succession, but once they flew a certain distance, a strange force acted upon them and made them fly back.
Whenever an axe returned, Hopp caught it and threw it out again.
Hopp was having a wonderful time, but Carl was still pondering how Dragon Crystals could grow from mushrooms.
However, after pouring so much spiritual essence into the weapons, Carl's thoughts had become much slower.
As he thought, Carl unconsciously began meditating.
Then Carl found himself in Dream Space once more.
"So this cheat can also be used through meditation? That really does make things more convenient."
Looking at the magical runes floating in the sky and the Enchanted Weapon models surrounding him, Carl felt that he understood his cheat a little better.
But before he could give the matter of the Dragon Crystals much more thought, he felt that he should wake up.
Put simply, he had slept enough.
"Good grief, the usage time of this cheat is actually tied to my level of fatigue! Doesn't that mean I'll have to work myself to death whenever I'm awake?"
"What if I end up with insomnia someday?"
Opening his eyes again, Carl stared at the Bioluminescent Mushrooms overhead, unsure how he was even supposed to complain about this.
As he lost himself in thought, a pair of fiery red, toned legs entered his field of vision.
Whether it was an illusion or not, Carl felt as though his eyesight had gotten better.
"Phew... No wonder those people are always after powerful magical weapons. They feel way too good to use!"
Wiping the sweat from her forehead, Hopp sighed in complete satisfaction.
She looked lively, like an ordinary child who had just received a beloved toy. There was no trace of the decisiveness and ruthlessness she had displayed when killing the Brain Eaters.
"You're satisfied with just this? With Eberron Dragon Crystals, I can make even more equipment for you. But speaking of which, shouldn't we start building a house?"
Though he did not know how much time had passed, Carl felt that he was still in good spirits.
For the sake of their future lives, he hoped they could have a proper place to live as soon as possible.
"Okay, okay. This way. There are some Lignified Giant Mushrooms over there. We can split them apart and turn them into planks."
Pointing toward a Mushroom Forest in a certain direction, Hopp looked as though she had already investigated the area nearby.
"Then what are we waiting for? Let's go!"
