Background

Nelly was raised by an unnamed noblewoman after her mother died. Her guardian treated her as a commodity, grooming her appearance and obedience so she could be exchanged for wealth and influence. At sixteen, Nelly was pressured into a nominal engagement with Duke Simon despite privately despising him and longing for freedom. 15

She had been close with Fornia since childhood; their mothers were like sisters. The two were separated for years after Nelly's mother died, but reunited when Fornia intervened to keep Simon from taking Nelly away. Nelly eventually confided that she hated Simon and her guardian's family, while Fornia revealed that she had continued watching over her. 25

After Fornia's father died in battle, Fornia proposed that they elope. Nelly initially feared that social expectations and fate would always keep her trapped, but accepted Fornia's dream of traveling the world together. 32

Their escape was interrupted at the harbor when Simon found them. He shot Fornia in the leg and pursued them toward the cruise ship. In response, Nelly manifested the Gate of Nothingness, redirected Simon's bullets through a portal, and killed him. She then transported herself and the injured Fornia aboard the ship, forcibly brought in a doctor, and retrieved medical supplies for Fornia's treatment. 42

Nelly later moved Fornia to Haishi, Huaguo, where she continued caring for her during recovery. There, Gu Yan discovered that Nelly could perceive him through his concealment ability and learned that she had neither registered her powers nor obtained an Ability Certificate. Rather than arresting her, he arranged for her to begin registration with the Ability User Bureau. 45 48 49

Nelly is a petite, doll-like young woman with a delicate appearance that her guardians deliberately cultivated. She is frequently seen accompanying Fornia and pushing her wheelchair in Haishi. 15 48

Personality

Her bond with Fornia gives her the confidence to act on her own wishes. Though naturally hesitant and uncomfortable around strangers, she becomes resolute when Fornia's safety or their freedom is threatened. She refuses Gu Yan's implication that she entered Huaguo to cause harm, insisting that she only wants a life where she and Fornia can be free. 25 32 42 49

Nelly is attentive and protective in everyday matters as well, such as avoiding spicy food because of Fornia's injury. Her unfamiliarity with local customs can make her unusually literal and easily flustered. 46
