Before long, the blood on the Black Book stopped flowing.
It was as though it had been scared half to death; the blood quickly receded.
However, the blood had not been consumed by the Black Book. It flowed directly down the pages and dripped onto the ground.
The blood gathered on the ground, forming a sentence.
"You suicidal madman!"
Liu Haoyu merely shrugged and spoke indifferently.
"No father, no mother, nothing tying me down. Just one worthless life."
Even so, Liu Haoyu still added a bit of protection to himself.
As for the rest, he would leave it to fate.
Closing the book, Liu Haoyu followed its instructions and headed toward the reservoir.
If Liu Haoyu was right, that White-clothed Female Ghost had either been murdered near the reservoir or thrown into it after being killed.
Either way, finding the body would be no easy task.
But Liu Haoyu did not give up. He came to the bank beside the reservoir.
Bright moonlight reflected off the water, while the damp air around him carried a hint of coolness.
Still, in the middle of the night, the place did feel rather eerie.
It was as if something might burst out of the water at any moment and drag anyone nearby beneath the surface.
Liu Haoyu walked along the shore and looked at the candle in his hand. Its flame had not ignited.
That white-clothed Fierce Ghost had not caught up with him.
For others, that was good news, but for Liu Haoyu, who wanted to catch ghosts, it was hardly a good thing.
If she hid herself, catching her would become even more difficult.
"Where exactly did the tragedy that book mentioned happen..."
Liu Haoyu tried to find clues along the shore.
But if the female ghost's body had been sunk to the bottom of the reservoir, it would be like searching for a needle in the ocean.
Even so, Liu Haoyu continued searching the shore. After walking quite a distance,
he saw an entrance.
Liu Haoyu had heard from the elders that decades ago, this place had not been a reservoir but a factory. Later, when the dam was built, the factory had been relocated elsewhere.
This abandoned entrance was most likely once a warehouse, an air-raid shelter, or something similar.
Liu Haoyu walked up to the entrance.
Weeds overran the doorway, and its location was well hidden. Ordinary people would have had a hard time finding it.
He looked at the lock. For some reason, it appeared rather new, with little rust on it.
Logically speaking, a warehouse abandoned for so many years, with no one maintaining or managing it, should have had a lock rusted beyond use long ago.
Yet this lock had only a few rust spots and looked as though it could still be opened.
Liu Haoyu pried the lock open with a crowbar, then placed his hand on the door and gently pushed open a crack.
Just a crack.
A stench of rot rushed at him, accompanied by an intensely cold, resentful aura.
Without a doubt, this was where the Fierce Ghost's corpse was located.
Liu Haoyu held his breath, and one of the ghosts in his pocket held her breath too.
Entering a place like this took at least a little courage.
Fortunately, Liu Haoyu was a very brave person.
But Qin Liu was not.
If she had possessed a physical body, Qin Liu would have clung to Liu Haoyu's leg.
She would have made him take her home before coming back to explore this damned place.
After all, this place looked as though it had not been opened in decades. Who knew what was inside?!
At that moment, Qin Liu could already picture it: when Liu Haoyu pushed open the door, he would see a pale ghostly face smiling at him.
So when Liu Haoyu used bolt cutters to cut through the lock, Qin Liu hurriedly shut her eyes and curled up inside Red Jade without moving.
Fortunately, after Liu Haoyu pushed the door open, there was no terrifying ghostly face inside, nor were there any horrifying dead hands.
There was only an empty, vast warehouse.
Moss crawled across the warehouse walls, but even that could not conceal the unbearable stench of decay.
Together with the lingering cold, resentful aura, anyone could have guessed that someone had definitely died in this warehouse.
It had simply been too long ago, and no traces remained.
Liu Haoyu walked to the center of the warehouse and looked around, trying to find somewhere a corpse could have been hidden.
Yet no matter how he searched, he found no body.
Without a body, where was this foul stench coming from?
The dim room was empty and bare, without a single object inside.
Combined with that nauseating stench, it felt as though he had entered some underground tomb, making his skin crawl.
Liu Haoyu wanted to keep searching when, suddenly—
"Creak—screech—bang!"
After a teeth-grating scraping sound came a heavy impact.
The moonlight that should have shone into the warehouse vanished completely. The door through which he had entered had been shut by something unknown.
In the pitch-black darkness, the candle in Liu Haoyu's hand bloomed with a faint flame.
Something filthy had arrived.
At once, Liu Haoyu took out the Thunder Shock Talisman and Red Jade, ready to subdue the Fierce Ghost the moment she appeared.
Yet after an unknown amount of time passed, no ghost appeared.
Instead, a woman's screams echoed through the warehouse.
"Help! Help! Aahhh! Help..."
The voice was shrill and loud, yet the woman's screams gradually weakened, becoming sharp and bizarre.
Several men's strange laughs accompanied them.
Though the room was so dark he could not see his hand before his face, Liu Haoyu could still see several faceless men pinning down a woman, about to commit an unspeakable act.
But before they could succeed, they discovered that the woman pinned to the ground had stopped struggling—and lost all signs of life.
She was dead.
Pinned to the ground, she had suffocated to death alive.
The men turned pale with fright. They had only intended to do something shameful, never expecting it to cost a life.
Amid their panic, one of them immediately came up with an idea.
Then, before Liu Haoyu's eyes, the men somehow found several machetes and saws and dismembered the corpse piece by piece, from head to toe.
Blood pooled across the floor and flowed to Liu Haoyu's feet.
A round head rolled onto the ground, its unclosed eyes staring straight at Liu Haoyu.
After the men had finished cutting up every piece, they dumped them all into the reservoir.
Then the warehouse grew dark once more.
A faint voice sounded.
"I hate... I hate it so much... Why... why..."
The voice was low and venomous, sometimes near and sometimes far, sometimes loud and sometimes soft, as though it were whispering directly into Liu Haoyu's ear.
"Kill them..."
"Kill them..."
"Kill them..."
