Background / History
Liu Haoyu’s father, Liu Jianjun, disappeared after entering Yeshang Peak with Elder Deng when Liu Haoyu was six years old. Liu Haoyu later inherited his father’s ghost-exorcism tradition and continued the dangerous work despite Elder Deng’s objections. 17 434
Elder Deng and Wu Yixuan had previously sent Liu Haoyu away for his safety rather than because they had abandoned him. When they reunite, Wu Yixuan recognizes that Liu Haoyu’s strength has grown enormously. 441
Appearance
Liu Haoyu is a mature, handsome young man whose ordinary appearance can conceal his involvement with the supernatural. He commonly wears a gas mask during dangerous work, though without it he has long hair and can pass for an ordinary person. 191 549
- His health has at times visibly deteriorated from poor rest, with a sallow complexion, dry skin, and bloodshot eyes. 20 438
- He carries a gas mask and Fire Axe as part of his ghost-exorcism gear. 84
- His physical body has been described as frail despite his role as a guide, though he has also displayed exceptional endurance and mobility. 242 268
Personality
Liu Haoyu is composed under supernatural pressure. He treats being trapped in a coffin as a familiar hazard, remains steady while facing hostile spirits, and does not easily yield to the Black Book’s provocations. 42 363
He is protective but emotionally blunt. He refuses to involve Deng Xiaolin in ghost hunting because of its danger, carries Qin Liu despite his own injuries, and is willing to risk his life to seek a way to save her. 17 477 543 He also tends to shoulder problems alone and is notably inexperienced in romance. 71
His moral line is pragmatic rather than passive: he sympathizes with wronged ghosts but rejects their harming of innocents. 13
