Nurturing and activation

Immortal Artifacts require a cultivator's True Qi or Immortal Essence to be nurtured and activated.

• Mortal Transformation cultivators usually consume so much True Qi that they can activate an Immortal Artifact for only two or three breaths. 212
• Early Earth Immortals can sustain an Early-Stage artifact for thousands of breaths, a First-Grade artifact for hundreds, and Second- or Third-Grade artifacts for dozens. 212

An Immortal Artifact's grade is closely tied to the power it grants its wielder.

• An Early Immortal Artifact is comparable to an Early Earth Immortal Golden Core or Demon Core. 210 231
• Earth Immortal Golden Cores are nearly equivalent to Immortal Artifacts of the same grade; wielding both together multiplies an Earth Immortal's combat strength. 174

Growth and transformation

Growth-type Immortal Artifacts can be nurtured toward a fixed maximum grade.

• The Qing Ming Immortal Sword could grow to Third Grade, while the Qing Ming Second Sword could grow to Seventh Grade. 186 283
• Ninth-Grade artifacts that ascend with their wielders may absorb Primordial Qi and evolve into true Divine Artifacts. 547 598

History

Great Xia's battle armor techniques were largely simplified derivatives of the Magic Tools and Immortal Artifacts used by Immortal Sects. True refinement methods were kept secret by Rakshasa Country and the Central Divine Dynasty, leaving Great Xia unable to refine genuine Magic Tools or Immortal Artifacts. 151

After studying the Xiao family's refining inheritance across tens of generations, Xiao Xiuyi found a path toward true Immortal Artifact refinement. Her Ruyi Battle Armor was an intermediate creation between an ordinary artifact and an Immortal Artifact, but she regarded it only as a step toward her real objective. 151

Xiao Xiuyi's first true Immortal Artifact was the Qing Ming Immortal Sword, a growth-type sword named after her late father Xiao Yuntian's courtesy name. Its creation fulfilled his lifelong ambition to forge Great Xia's strongest battle armor. 159 The sword weighed approximately 3.6 million jin, making it impossible for the then-sixth-tier Lin Xuankong to move by ordinary means. 160

Lin Xuankong later demonstrated an innate aptitude for artifact refinement, creating an Early-Grade Immortal Artifact on his first attempt and collaborating with Xiao Xiuyi to produce many more over the following ten days. 212 Their refining capabilities continued to advance from Third- and Fourth-Grade artifacts to Eighth- and Ninth-Grade artifacts, eventually allowing them to forge perfect-grade Ninth-Grade Immortal Artifacts from second-rate materials. 400 487 572
