Background / History

The sect was founded tens of thousands of years ago. Its founding ancestor, Ancestor Master Li, established the original sect-protecting grand array, while the two Crane Ancestors followed him during the sect's founding era. 294 296

Historically, the Crane Immortal Sect was a powerful but not dominant Western Region sect. It was one of the Twelve Great Immortal Sects, yet had never entered the region's top three during its founder's lifetime or the following tens of thousands of years. 236 296 Before Lin Xuankong's arrival, it was reportedly close to falling out of the Western Region's top ten. 557

The sect's early resources were limited by later standards: it was said to possess only one First-Rank Treasure Seal Immortal Artifact, an inherited treasure not freely issued to disciples. 167 Its long-term strength instead rested on its formations, cultivation inheritance, Spirit Peaks, and extensive subordinate territories. 237 253

Territory & Facilities

  • Crane Immortal City — A massive city operated by the sect for thousands of years, protected by a city-wide immortal array capable of blocking high-grade Immortal attacks. 220
  • Outer sect training grounds — A magnificent arena complex covering hundreds of thousands of mu, used for the disciple recruitment competition. 215
  • Spirit Peaks — The sect once operated thirty-six Spirit Peaks during the Seventy-Six Immortal Sect Alliance crisis. 256 257 By the later Immortal-Demon War period, its territory had expanded nearly tenfold to one hundred and eight Spirit Peaks. 421
  • First Spirit Peak — The tallest and most Immortal Essence-rich Spirit Peak was assigned to Lin Xuankong after he became the sect's foremost guest official. 250
  • Myriad Laws Pavilion — The sect's repository of cultivation, artifact-refining, alchemy, and array-formation manuals. It contains hundreds of shelves of jade slips and is protected by arrays, guards, traps, and a flight restriction. 253
  • Steward Hall — Oversees Disciple Tokens, sect missions, and Sect Contribution Points. 250
  • Hall of Celebration — Located on the tallest and most Immortal Essence-rich Spirit Peak; used for major sect ceremonies. 245

Cultivation Inheritance

Thousand Crane Immortal Arts

The Thousand Crane Immortal Arts are one of the Crane Immortal Sect's core Immortal Arts and a principal reason the sect could maintain its position in the Western Region. 253

  • Summons Lightning Cranes whose speed, force, and self-destruction power scale with the user's enhancements. 254
  • Allows a cultivator with immense True Qi reserves to field repeated waves of summoned cranes. 283
  • Its jade slip is secured behind a dedicated protective barrier within the Myriad Laws Pavilion. 253

Thousand Crane Escape

The Thousand Crane Escape is regarded as the sect's strongest escape technique. 291

  • At its first level, it can randomly teleport its user up to a thousand li even when only a trace of True Qi remains. 291
  • It may provide a chance to evade a Heavenly Tribulation's lock-on. 291
  • Most disciples and Earth Immortals require around a century to grasp its first level. 291

Crane Immortal Divine Art

The Crane Immortal Divine Art is a more closely guarded core inheritance.

  • Access normally requires more than ten thousand Sect Contribution Points. 249
  • Ordinary disciples earn contributions through long-term work and sect missions; Li Xiaolan accumulated only slightly over one thousand points after more than a year in the Medicine Immortal Hall. 249

Defensive Formations

Original Sect-Protecting Grand Array

The ancient grand array was established by the sect's founder and could resist the full assault of a Sixth-Grade Earth Immortal. 294

  • Summons a Sixth-Tier Demon Crane King formation spirit. 259 294
  • The summoned crane can attack directly or self-destruct; one detonation annihilated more than a dozen attacking Earth Immortals during the alliance siege. 259
  • The barrier permits attacks from sect defenders to pass outward without obstruction while blocking enemy attacks. 259
  • Its array cores could still be damaged or destroyed under sustained high-level assault, causing severe casualties among sect disciples. 263

Nine-layered Thousand Crane Array

The sect's later primary defense was the Nine-layered Thousand Crane Array, reinforced through Lin Xuankong's artifact refining and formation expertise. 388 393

  • The Green-foreheaded Qilin deployed 3,600 Immortal Artifacts as array eyes to establish the formation. 388 389
  • One hundred layers of nine-layered array barriers were erected around the existing defense during the Xuan Yin Demonic Sect's assault. 389
  • The formation fielded array spirits against the Heavenly Demon Array and its summoned Demonic Buddha. 393
  • Later deployments included forty-eight layers of the array, requiring more than a thousand First-Grade Immortal Artifacts. 410

Luoshui Great Array

The sect later received the protection of a Luoshui Great Array and constructed a new main hall as its influence expanded. 421

Organization

  • Sect Master Li — Leads the sect; personally secured Lin Xuankong's position as First Guest Official and directed the sect's rise around his artifact-refining ability. 239 245
  • Vice Sect Masters — Two late Fifth-Grade Earth Immortals served beneath Sect Master Li during the grand celebration for Lin Xuankong's entry. 245
  • Supreme Elders Sui He, Qing He, and Cang He — Senior Earth Immortals who emerged from long seclusion for Lin Xuankong's entry celebration and later commanded the sect's defense. 245 257
  • Crane Fairy Qu Qiao'er — A Mid Third-Grade Earth Immortal with Spirit-Grade Thunder Dao and artifact-refining comprehension; she accepted Xiao Ying'er into Crane Peak. 203 244
  • Medicine Immortal Qu Wan'er — A Third-Grade Earth Immortal and alchemy authority; Li Xiaolan is among her direct disciples. 255 257
  • Great Steward Huang Liutao — A Late Second-Grade Earth Immortal responsible for the Steward Hall and for guiding Lin Xuankong's group through the Myriad Laws Pavilion. 251 253
  • Crane Ancestors — Two ancient guardian immortal cranes who control the Gate of Life to the Myriad Laws Pavilion and are treated with reverence even by the Sect Master and Supreme Elders. 250 283

Relationships

  • Lin Xuankong / “Mu Shiba” — The sect's First Guest Official and foremost honored guest. His artifact refining, formations, and wartime defense transformed the sect's standing. 239 251 406
  • Li Xiaolan — A sect disciple and direct disciple of Medicine Immortal Qu Wan'er; her connection to Lin Xuankong helped persuade him to remain with the sect. 237 255
  • Third Princess Xiao Ying'er — Entered Crane Peak under Crane Fairy Qu Qiao'er and received an Ascension Treasure Pill. 244
  • Northern Desolate, Western Nether, and Western Dwelling Immortal Sects — Longstanding friendly sects that later shared in opportunities created by supporting the Crane Immortal Sect. 245 298
  • Five Elements Immortal Sect — A former ally whose relationship cooled after the Crane Immortal Sect's founding ancestor died; it later joined the alliance that attacked the sect before seeking reconciliation. 257 284
  • Fire Spirit Immortal Sect — A hostile rival that helped organize the Seventy-Six Immortal Sect Alliance in an attempt to seize control of Lin Xuankong's artifact-refining ability. 245 256
  • Xuan Yin Demonic Sect — A major enemy during the Immortal-Demon War; its forces repeatedly assaulted Crane Immortal City and the sect's defensive arrays. 388 393

Story Role / Major Arcs

Disciple Recruitment Ceremony

The sect opened a large recruitment competition after external pressure prevented it from retaining all of its Sixth Heavenly Meridian Spirit Materials. It reserved seventeen materials for itself and made twenty-one available to competing Ninth-Layer cultivators from multiple Immortal Sects. 199

The ceremony used several rounds of one-on-one combat, eliminating roughly half of the participants per round until the final group remained. 225 Lin Xuankong's associates won spirit materials and gained entry into the sect. 239

Recruitment of Lin Xuankong

After witnessing “Mu Shiba” refine Early-Stage Immortal Artifacts, Sect Master Li invited him to become the sect's foremost honored guest. 239 The sect held an exceptional celebration for him, summoning its Supreme Elders and inviting seventy to eighty Western Region Immortal Sects. 245

The sect opened the Myriad Laws Pavilion to Lin Xuankong and his close associates, allowing them to study techniques that normal disciples would need decades of missions to approach. 252 253

Seventy-Six Immortal Sect Alliance

The Fire Spirit Immortal Sect, Five Elements Immortal Sect, and numerous others formed an alliance to pressure the Crane Immortal Sect into surrendering Lin Xuankong's artifact-refining services. 245 256

The Crane Immortal Sect mobilized all Earth Immortals and tens of thousands of disciples to defend its grounds. 257 Although its protective array killed numerous attackers, several Spirit Peak array cores were destroyed and thousands of sect disciples died. 259 263

Rise to Western Region Supremacy

Lin Xuankong supplied the sect with more than one hundred Immortal Artifacts, enabling every one of its more than thirty Earth Immortals to possess at least one. 282 This drove an unprecedented surge in cultivation and mission participation among disciples and Immortal Servants. 282

Within two years, the sect's strength surpassed every other Immortal Sect in the Western Region. 283

Immortal-Demon War

The Crane Immortal Sect became a focal point of resistance against the Xuan Yin Demonic Sect. Its Nine-layered Thousand Crane Array withstood attacks by Ninth-Grade Demon Artifact-grade Demon Generals and the Heavenly Demon Array. 388 393

After Lin Xuankong repelled the Xuan Yin Demonic Sect's assault, Sect Master Li ordered the event recorded as the greatest event in the sect's history. 406 Other sects sought affiliation under the Crane Immortal Sect's name. 406

Lin Xuankong's Ascension Preparations

Before attempting ascension to the Supreme Primordial Realm, Lin Xuankong sent the sect three Ninth-Grade Perfection Immortal Artifacts—Azure Shadow, Pure Yang, and Flying Sunset—to guard against demonic threats and suppress Demon Lords in the Demon Suppressing Hall. 557
