The insects seemed to be torn apart by some invisible force. Black, white, yellow, and green fluids scattered everywhere, turning into a nauseating curtain of rain in the air before splattering down all over Brown.
Before he had time to turn around and confirm what was happening, he saw the swarms pouring out of the forest explode one after another. Their feeble intelligence could not comprehend what was happening. In an instant, on the fields where golden wheat swayed, the insects' fluids drenched the crops, turning them completely black.
The swarm's assault actually ground to a halt because of this.
Brown hurriedly turned around and saw Xiya, clad in heavy armor and a cloak, raising her right hand. With a snap of her fingers, the insects farther back were torn apart as if crushed beneath a gigantic hand.
The storm abruptly receded. Sunlight pierced the dark clouds and shone upon the earth. The insects that remained seemed to fear Xiya—or perhaps they feared the sunlight—and burrowed into the forest one after another, falling silent.
It could not even be called a battle. It had merely been a one-sided crushing.
At that moment, Old Eggplant, who had just crawled out of the muddy pool, ran straight into the insects.
"Fuck, they even know how to guard the bodies?"
He cursed. With no weapon at hand, Old Eggplant could only prepare to fight the insects bare-handed.
Yet the insects did not even look at Old Eggplant and the others. They went straight into the deeper part of the forest.
"Huh?"
Old Eggplant remained on guard for a moment. Only after discovering that the swarm truly was not coming back did he hurry back to the town.
At first, he thought the insects had left because everyone in the town had been killed.
