Knight Brown trembled all over. He could not even remain standing and could only brace himself against the wall, keeping his body rigid.
Through the fortress window, he could see the wall formed by the swarm. The artillery fire fell upon it like grains of sand tossed into a lake, raising only faint ripples without shaking its existence.
Brown's futile struggle against the swarm made him lose all hope for the future. He even began thinking that if the Insect Tide reached the fortress and they could no longer defend it, he would immediately use the longsword in his hand to kill himself and reduce his suffering. Yet Brown hesitated. Death was simply too painful, and he did not quite dare to end his own life.
The knights around him were also trembling with fear, gritting their teeth tightly in terror that, if they relaxed, they would immediately lose control of their bladders and collapse on the ground.
