Background

Li Haomiao was the Yan King of Great Zhou and one of the royal clan's most celebrated figures. He was known as the clan's foremost martial genius, a Dao Sect True Inheritance Disciple, a capable statesman, and a learned, charitable noble. Before his downfall, he was described as tall and upright, with sword-like brows, starry eyes, and a heroic bearing that drew widespread admiration in Jade Capital 3.

As a legitimate Li clansman, he became a target during the Empress's purge of the royal family. He was accused of colluding with the neighboring Great Qian Dynasty and plotting treason, then had both legs and one arm removed before being discarded in the Ningguta mines 3. He holds the Empress—whom he calls the “Bewitching Woman”—responsible for Great Zhou's ruin and vows to restore the Li clan's glory 7.

In Ningguta, Li Haomiao forms an arrangement with the mine slave Xu Yunfan: food and water in exchange for martial instruction. He teaches Xu Yunfan the Crimson Flame Copper Body Art, Fleet Foot, and later the complete Crimson Flame Copper Body Art and Cloak Hammer 4 7 25. Their alliance begins pragmatically but develops into trust through their escape from the mines and their conflicts with the Empress's agents.

When Li Miaoyun attempts to bring him back to the Empress, Li Haomiao refuses surrender despite being offered the future throne. He activates Celestial Human Transformation, regrows his limbs, and battles her with the aid of a Dragon-Tiger Great Pill. Although heavily wounded, he learns to use True Force and seals Li Miaoyun's qi, allowing Xu Yunfan to capture her 28 29.

Li Haomiao later trains on Dao Sect's Divine Firmament Peak alongside Fang Mushan. The collapse of Great Zhou and the massacre of its people leave him withdrawn and preoccupied with reclaiming the dynasty, but he continues cultivating the royal Dragon Sparrow Bone Tempering Art 272. During the struggle for Jade Capital, he commands the Black Armored Army against the Imperial Guards; after Xu Yunfan eliminates the remaining major threats, Li Haomiao is positioned to take the throne 371.

Appearance

Before his imprisonment, Li Haomiao was a handsome, imposing noble with a clear-eyed and heroic presence. His time in Ningguta leaves him mutilated, scarred, and physically diminished, though Celestial Human Transformation later restores his limbs and former appearance 3 25 28.

  • Tall, upright build before the purge, likened to a towering pine 3.
  • Sword-like brows and notably clear, star-like eyes 3.
  • During his imprisonment, missing both legs and one arm; his remaining hand has damaged tendons 3 4.
  • Bears three vicious scars on his face while traveling after his escape 25.
  • Later develops gray hair and a heavily muscled physique through cultivation, with dark-red Blood Flood Dragon Force patterns visible beneath his skin 272.

Personality

Li Haomiao is proud, politically minded, and deeply attached to Great Zhou's legitimacy. Even when crippled and cornered, he refuses Li Miaoyun's offer to return as a submissive prisoner and insists that he will return openly, overthrow the Empress, and reclaim his position with dignity 28.

He is observant and measured in his dealings with Xu Yunfan. He recognizes Xu Yunfan's caution, respects it, and provides practical martial instruction suited to the mine environment rather than offering techniques Xu Yunfan cannot sustain 4. At the same time, he can be condescending toward commoners and blunt about aptitude, reflecting his aristocratic upbringing 4 25.

Despite his royal ambition, Li Haomiao is concerned with stability and ordinary people. He warns Xu Yunfan that the collapse of Great Zhou could bring wider warfare and further civilian deaths, even when their views on how to confront the Empress differ 356. The destruction of Jade Capital's civilians during battles between top cultivators visibly grieves him 356.

Abilities & Skills

Martial Arts Instruction

Li Haomiao possesses extensive knowledge of martial cultivation, including the relationship between Tendons, Bones, Skin, the External Three Harmonies, and later internal cultivation 4.

  • Taught Xu Yunfan the Crimson Flame Copper Body Art for body tempering through mining 4.

Celestial Human Transformation

A True Blood ability of the Great Zhou royal family.

  • Regenerates lost limbs by rapidly restoring flesh and bone 28.
  • Its use consumes substantial vitality; even the Dragon-Tiger Great Pill barely supports Li Haomiao's full regeneration 29.
  • His True Blood is limited and was later described as largely exhausted through cultivation and battle 30.

True Force

Li Haomiao develops True Force while fighting Li Miaoyun.

  • Layers the force of his shoulders, back, arm, and fist into a single explosive strike 29.
  • Can seal an opponent's qi; he uses this to render Li Miaoyun unable to resist 29.
  • His newly regrown limbs initially limit his speed and control because he must readjust to using them 29.

Dragon Sparrow Bone Tempering Art

A Great Zhou royal-clan secret art restricted to those with the Dragon Sparrow bloodline 272.

  • Produces Blood Flood Dragon Force, visible as dark-red vein-like patterns beneath the skin 272.
  • Li Haomiao uses medicinal liquor to suppress the art's backlash pain and stimulate his bloodline 272.
  • He remains unable to breach the Flesh Refining Realm after repeated attempts 272.

  • The Empress — Primary political enemy. Her purge crippled and imprisoned Li Haomiao; he seeks to remove her and restore Great Zhou 3 7 28.
  • Li Miaoyun — Opponent sent to retrieve him for the Empress. Li Haomiao defeats her strategically by sealing her qi after their battle 28 29.
  • Bi ShengDao Sect elder who saves Li Haomiao after his battle with Li Miaoyun, though he harshly criticizes Li Haomiao's aptitude and use of precious sect resources 30.
