Background / History

Affos commanded the Crimson Angel Chapter during its severely depleted early campaigns. Aware that missions involving Chaos consistently exceeded intelligence estimates, he kept heavier forces ready during the Chapter's boarding assault against Chaos forces. When a Greater Daemon of Slaanesh appeared on the enemy bridge, he personally entered the melee and was trapped in a hallucination before Librarian Asteris disrupted the daemon's psychic influence 2 6.

During the subsequent defense of the hive city, Affos directed scattered Astartes, auxiliaries, and PDF forces to hold individual defensive sectors, fall back to street fighting if necessary, and delay the enemy until Imperial reinforcements arrived. He accepted Quan Tiehua's claim that the Chapter could be saved with “100%” certainty if all surviving brothers rallied to his position 16.

After fighting Angron, Affos was grievously wounded and later appeared in a wheelchair. Despite this, he continued to provide guidance to his brothers and reaffirmed their duty to humanity after the manifestation of the Emperor's will 67 79.

His black carapace was adapted for neural connection with Saint Mech Dreadnoughts. By the campaign on Tullaris Forge World, he operated a six-meter Saint Mech; its firepower was substantial, though its outer armour was vulnerable once its void shield failed 81 88.

Appearance

Affos was initially described with flowing long hair, which he later cut into a combat-efficient buzz cut. His injuries eventually left him wheelchair-bound before he entered a Saint Mech Dreadnought 16 79.

Personality

Affos is a pragmatic commander who prepares for the likelihood that Chaos intelligence is incomplete or misleading. He prioritizes preserving the Chapter's remaining strength, ordering its ship to leave the system with final supplies so that a remnant would survive if the ground force was lost 2 22.

He retains personal courage despite his command role, directly engaging the Greater Daemon of Slaanesh and later charging Angron alongside other Astartes. His willingness to trust Quan Tiehua's improbable plan during the siege reflects both desperation and confidence in his Battle-Brothers 6 16 67.

Hive-City Defense

With the Chapter reduced and Imperial reinforcements delayed, Affos organized a defensive campaign around the hive city. He prepared for a prolonged retreat through successive defensive lines and entrusted Quan Tiehua with a contingency plan to preserve the Chapter 16 22.

War Against Angron

Affos joined the Astartes assault on Angron, charging the Primarch with a Power Sword despite the overwhelming disparity in strength. He was killed according to the battle report, though later chapters depict him alive but severely incapacitated 67 79.

Recovery and Saint Mech Integration

Following his injuries, Affos continued to influence the Chapter from a wheelchair. His black carapace was later used to improve the neural interface of Saint Mech Dreadnoughts, enabling him to return to the battlefield in a mechanized body 79 81 88.
