Background / History

Early life and accession

Theresia and her brother Teresis began as ordinary Sarkaz, but both later developed extraordinary combat power. Following the Black Crown's recognition, the siblings—whose lives had largely been spent at war—were left to shoulder Kazdel's national burden despite having little governing experience 12 26.

As Demon King, Theresia convened the Royal Court to seek solutions for Kazdel's future. Her early attempts at taxation, foreign cooperation, and national development were met with skepticism from the Lords, exposing both her inexperience and the Royal Court's unwillingness to share responsibility 29 30.

Reconstruction and reform

After months of study, Theresia concluded that economic survival had to precede her broader ideals. She cut military spending, sought trade connections, considered using her own status as a national brand, and returned to tailoring to earn funds personally 45 46 65.

During the conflict with Utopia, Theresia trusted Nizere's proposed decapitation strike against an enemy high-speed battleship. The operation was a trap: Lamian and Nizere's forces were captured, the Demon King's Royal Guard were incapacitated, and Utopia used the defeat to break Kazdel's morale 164 165.

Theresia refused Utopia's surrender demand despite believing Lamian and Nizere's lives were at stake. She publicly admitted her strategic failure, but subsequent propaganda and mass defections left Kazdel nearly defenseless 165 166.

Lamian later rescued Theresia and revealed that the Speaker was Huang Cao, as well as the extent to which Theresia's investments and closest allies had been manipulated. Theresia visited Utopia to study its governance firsthand. She failed its intermediate civil-service examination, but treated the failure as proof that she needed further growth rather than a reason to abandon reform 173 174.

After Utopia's assumption of control over Kazdel, Theresia tasked Teresis with overseeing Kazdel's construction. She later served as Kazdel's highest authority and Secretary-General, supporting Huang Cao's international decisions 174 275.

In Lateran, she acted openly as a Utopian representative, distributing books challenging Lateran's official history and commissioning nun habits for herself and her companions 430 431.
